Junior Year: The Beginning (1)

"Can you all sit down?", Mr. Mattier asked, students obliged well aware of the teacher's strictness and disciplinary tactics. When the class was quiet, he began his lesson. "Okay, we're going to be looking at…", "Sorry…" someone interrupted, it was a female voice. Mr. Mattier turned to attend to her and was struck dumb at what he saw. Other students who curiously glanced looked as awestruck as their teacher. Mr. Mattier gulped, "Sorry, are you a looking for someone?" he asked the gorgeous girl who stood by the doorframe. She smiled (a lethal weapon to all male species present in that room) and said, "No, I'm a new student, Amelia Wilde". Just as she made her introduction, two new faces entered the classroom, a dashing blonde guy and another girl—who was pretty though nowhere next to Amelia. They smiled and made their introductions as well. Mr. Mattier welcomed them and asked them to take a seat, they all sat next to each other and concentrated on the class, giving no attention to the other students who continued to stare at them.

As soon as Mr. Mattier left the class, all hell broke loose. Students began to stare at the new students, some talked about them, and some that were bold enough even dared to approach them. Students like Aria Maclean and her clique of friends. She smiled politely, "Hi, I'm Aria", she said. The new students exchanged glances as if wondering how to respond to her. The boy spoke, "Hello Aria, I'm Rowan, this is Amelia and that's Clarissa" he said, introducing them all. Aria smiled and said, "It's lovely to meet you all", she turned to Amelia and you could see her scrutinize the beautiful girl but her stiff smile made her jealousy of Amelia's perfect face obvious. Clarissa cleared her throat and said, "We were asked to visit the Principal's office after class so we should get going", "Of course, it was nice meeting you" Aria said, still looking at Amelia. The new kids gave polite replies as they stood from their seats. As they walked pass the hall, students that stood and jested by their locker sides watched them in awe.

Break was hectic. Students spilled from their class rooms into the cramped cafeteria, the three friends could be seen walking amidst the other students, they jested and chatted animatedly, taking comfort in their conversations and ignoring the wild minutes of recess at Eagles high. It was very obvious that the new students stood at the very center of their day's gossip. Everyone was looking at them, talking about them, eager to know more about the familiar trio. "Ohmygod, I'm so sorry!" someone yelled, curious eyes turned to the scene. Amelia stood at the center with a shocked expression, her palm on her white blouse which had been stained by the smoothie that spilled from the cup that Max (an awkward brown-haired guy) held. "Dude, what the hell!" Rowan barked angrily while Clarissa used her handkerchief to try to clean Amelia's blouse. Rowan pushed Max hard, making him fall butt-first on the cold cafeteria floor. "Oooh..." the students jeered, Max groaned in pain and tried to stand despite the pain from his backside. "I'm s.sorry, I meant no harm" he apologized. "You're a fool if you think I'm gonna believe that, you pervert!" Rowan yelled angrily. "Rowan!" Amelia yelled, unwilling to watch them fight when she wasn't even hurt. "It's fine, I'm fine, you can leave him alone", she said. She walked towards Rowan and gently tugged on his arm. "You can't be fine, he…", "made a mistake" Amelia interrupted. Seeing Rowan was unconvinced, she added, "Plus, it's our first day of school, do you have to do this?" Rowan sighed at her words, glanced at Max, then shook his head. "No, I don't want to do this. Should we go to class?" he asked. Amelia smiled and nodded, "I just need to clean up my shirt," she said. And with that they left the cafeteria, allowing their fellow students the freedom to gossip about the incident, Max slipped out of the cafeteria unseen. Thankfully so, as certain ill-spirited teenagers made foul accusations, saying he did all that for Amelia's attention, that he wanted to see what lay beneath her shirt and that was why he did that.

But it was all a lie! For his mistake was foolish but it bore no secret intentions. He didn't mean to pour the drink on her, why would he want to do that? He angrily stormed off, hoping to get to class so he could cry on his desk peacefully when he saw Amelia coming out from the ladies' room, he tried to run but then she saw him. "Hello! Sorry!" she called to his person. He sighed and approached her, an apology on his tongue when she said, "I'm so sorry". He blinked as if in a trance before asking, "You're sorry?", she nodded and explained, "Max pushed you hard, are you okay?". He took a deep breath before saying, "Yes, I'm quite alright", she smiled, obviously pleased at that. "Your accent, you're British?" she asked. He nodded in reply, "Yes I am, I'm from the heart of England itself" he replied. She gasped in delight, "London is truly lovely" she said, he nodded in agreement and asked, "Do you go there a lot?", she giggled, "Almost every year". "Wow, even I don't go home that much" he replied. She laughed at that as well. Then there was silence and they stared at each other searchingly until he said, "I am truly sorry for pouring my drink on you" he said sincerely. "Apology accepted", she replied, "And I am truly sorry for Ramon's behavior, he's a tad bit protective," she said pleadingly. "Your apology is accepted um…", she smiled at that, "Amelia…Amelia Wilde," she said. "Nice to meet you Amelia, I'm Max Millen" he replied. She smiled at him again, she seemed to love to smile, and it was always so breathtakingly beautiful. "So, does this mean we're friends?" he said, unable to stop himself from asking. She quirked a perfect eyebrow, "Do you want us to be friends?" she asked. He laughed unbelievingly, "Who wouldn't want to be your friend?", she looked away but he saw her smile yet again. "I guess that means we're friends Max Millen", she said teasingly, "I guess we are Amelia Wilde" he replied. They shared a laugh and looked at each other with compassion and newfound friendship. That is, until they were interrupted.

"Amelia! Amelia!" Rowan called, "Amelia!" Clarissa yelled as well as they searched for her. Amelia sighed and turned to Max, "I guess it's time I leave huh?" she joked. But they both felt a reluctance to depart from the presence of one another. "I'll see you tomorrow", she said. He smiled at her, "I'll see you tomorrow" he replied. "Bye", she said as she left to find her friends. He grimaced at the noise of the final bell. "Goodbye," he whispered to himself, recalling those precious moments with Amelia and hoping this was not the last of it.
