War

'Well, it's been almost 16 years, and the systems still loading.'

[System Loading- 94.7%]

'Just a couple more months, and it'll finally be done loading,' Giles thought.

He's been in this new world for almost 16 years and has been living his life in pain and fear.

At first, he was happy to be reborn as in his previous life. He was basically muddling through life with no friends and family in his late life.

So when he got the chance to be reborn, he thought his future would be great.

A new family where he could feel love and care, a new life where he can make friends and live his best life in general.

Unfortunately, at two, he was finally able to understand his circumstances.

He was an illegitimate child of a Viscount who had slept with a random village woman he found beautiful and ended making her one of his mistresses.

As you could imagine, this probably wasn't the viscount's first time bringing home a mistress, and it probably wasn't his first time having an illegitimate child.

Around the age of three, Giles found out he had over 15 siblings, and apparently, there used to be even more, but they went 'missing.'

And now, at 16, there's only one thing that Giles has learned, and that was to be as low-key as possible and never try to stand out.

Because those that do always end up 'missing,' as long as you display even a little bit of talent as an illegitimate child in the viscounts household, you would most likely disappear.

Not only that, because they were illegitimate children, they weren't even taught the most basic of nobility, including reading, writing, etiquette, etc.

They basically had the same knowledge as peasants who end up working all their life.

In such an environment, Giles has made only two friends, who are also in the same situation as him.

"You gon eat that Giles," A voice said across him.

"Of course I'm going to eat," Giles replied to timothy.

One of his best friends and half-brothers.

Right now, all the illegitimate kids were having breakfast, which was just some black bread and mystery mush that tasted like mashed power with bits of stones.

"BIG NEWS!" A large boy shouted, running into the hall.

"What is it"

"Something happened?"

"Has the viscountess finally died?"

"Did the Viscount bring in a new girl?"

"No, none of those even bigger news," The boy said, huffing and catching his breath.

"Just tell us already,"

"Cmon now hurry up,"

"The Philos Kingdom has just declared war on us, and the kings just ordered every noble to draft up some of their knights and peasants and prep them for war,"

.....

Silence.

The fact that a war was just declared was something that everyone from the highest nobility to the poorest peasant knew about or been was going to happen eventually.

The famine that was apparently happening all over the continent this past decade, it's made most kingdoms quickly use up their reserves, and especially with how this summer harvest was for the Philos kingdom, they barely have any food.

At least the peasant and some barons and lower viscount are probably suffering over there.

While the Philos had a terrible harvest and we the Claright kingdom had a perfect one.

In the middle ages, if a kingdom sees a weaker kingdom doing better in a bad situation, things would always get tense.

From what Giles can remember, the Claright Kingdom has always been weaker than the Philos kingdom in practically everything, especially military might.

While the war would be a good way to raise one's status, especially them as illegitimate children of a noble.

This war was basically a massacre in the making. Well, it might be depending on how well the Claright kingdom can last the first few battles.

"I need to go do something,"

"That's right. I also forgot something."

"I need to go clean cattle,"

"I think it's my turn to go clean the bathrooms,"

One by one, everyone quickly ran away; after all, since war is breaking out and the Viscountess would be looking for any reason to send them to war.

It would practically be suicided with the fact that none of them were allowed to learn any useful skills in including any form of combat.

Even Giles quickly excused himself to find a task to do.

==========

New story and a short first chapter. I'm hoping this is the book that can keep on track.
