A Disciple

Kento was barely keeping his face from contorting into a grin at the success of his plunder.

His plunders were entirely random and to obtain an S grade skill from a list that had only two S grade skills, Kento was the happiest person out there.

"That was quite impressive." Yasaka walked towards Kento. "And thank you for not killing my guard."

"It was a test to begin with." Kento smiled. "Not a deathmatch."

Besides, it was a fight that he barely won. Killing his opponent was not something he even had in his mind.

But now, he had something else to worry about.

"Taking away your enemy's vision is one of the best strategies." Susanoo said, walking down. "And since the Tenko did not have enhanced senses, he lost the fight the moment he lost his vision."

"I am honored to be praised by you, Kami Susanoo."

Susanoo wasn't like the other gods who had strength yet rarely used them.

Susanoo was a warrior. He loved fighting and his fight against no Orochi has been an immortal legend.

Susanoo was pleased with Kento's humility. "Before you become my disciple, there are a few things that I need to tell you about."

'Of course.' Kento knew that there had to be a reason for Susanoo to even look for a disciple.

But he couldn't voice his thoughts, so instead he gave the god a nod.

"Then we will take our leave, Kami Susanoo." Yasaka gave the god a bow followed by her Youkai guards.

"Your service has been quite helpful, Yasaka." Susanoo said. "And do not worry, I will be keeping my promise."

Kento didn't ask about the promise, but he was curious about it.

"I cannot express my happiness, my lord."

This made Susanoo laugh. "You are too humble, Yasaka."

As Yasaka made her way out of the room, the guards followed behind her, leaving Kento alone with the Storm God.

"Why don't we take a walk?"

Kento wasn't sure why they had to go out when the room was already empty for them to talk, but there was no point in saying no –So, he agreed.

At his approval, Susanoo did something that surprised Kento quite a lot.

*Snap*

With just the snap of his finger, the entire scenery changed.

The room that they were in vanished, replaced by a massive garden with flowers and statues covering the place.

"Marvelous, isn't it?" Susanoo asked at which Kento could only nod.

After all, it was beyond marvelous.

"Unfortunately, it is not my power." Susanoo said, walking over the pavement.

"Isn't it you who changed the scenery, my lord?" Kento asked, confused as to why he did not take credit.

"The ability to warp reality is not an ability that I possess." Susanoo said, truthfully. "And this is not reality manipulation either."

'Not reality manipulation?' Kento wondered. 'Then is it matter manipulation? But that would take a thousand times more effort.'

"This place was designed by Kagutsuchi who possesses the ability to add certain qualities to his creations." Susanoo revealed. "Kagutsuchi received a fraction of my father's powers to allow his creations to be more beneficial for the Shinto Faction."

Kento walked behind the god, listening intently to what he was saying.

"With my father's power, Kagutsuchi obtained the ability to manipulate the time and space of his creations. And since this place is one of his creations, he used that power to change the entire place according to the wish of the place's owner." Susanoo looked at Kento. "And since he gifted this place to me, it makes me the owner of the place… Allowing me to change the place as I wish."

'That's too broken of a power.' Kento was taken aback by the reveal. 'The ability to manipulate time and space is one of the strongest powers one can think of.'

He could think of a million ways how he would use that power.

But keeping his usual face, Kento asked. "Are these all the statues of the Shinto gods?"

He noticed that each statue was different and were placed a few meters away from each other.

'That's a lot of statues.'

"Indeed." Susanoo answered. "There are even some statues of gods that don't exist anymore."

"Pardon?"

This confused Kento. He couldn't understand how a god could stop existing.

"Eons ago, when the pantheons fought for power and ultimate control, they used weapons and powers that could cut through immortality." Susanoo explained. "Not everyone knows this, but gods do not possess the true form of immortality. They possess what you call Eternal Life."

"Where one does not age?" Kento asked and Susanoo nodded.

"Yes." He said. "But do you know why almost everyone believes that gods are immortal?"

Kento shook his head.

"Because they simply do not have the ability to kill one." Susanoo announced. "Beings that can kill a god are beings with the epitome of power and they do not make appearances often. A normal being or a being with measly strength cannot even dream to wound a god –much less kill one."

"This… makes sense." Kento mumbled.

"In the past there was a war." Susanoo said. "Not the one between the Christian factions, but one between the mythologies."

Kento did not even want to imagine how scary something like that would have looked.

"And that was one of the only times where the death of gods were recorded." Susanoo sighed.

"How did that war end?" Kento asked, curious about the whole ordeal.

"The strongest gods of almost every major pantheon were heartbroken seeing the deaths and thus decided it was best to stop." The Storm god explained. "But not everyone would have agreed to that and thus it was decided that every pantheon will get a certain region as their domain."

"So why are some of the religions so big?" Kento asked. "As in… they also exist in regions where other gods are primarily worshiped."

"That was because of the demi-gods and heroes." Susanoo said. "As beings who were neither fully god nor fully human, they could freely interact with both worlds. And it was them who started wars to expand their religion's reach."

It made sense to Kento as the Vikings did try to expand the Nordic reach while Christians did the same with their religion.

"Recently the gods had been taking people as their servants, champions and disciples to prevent such violent expansions." Susanoo said, looking at Kento. "Since gods cannot intervene directly in these situations, they had to take other beings to do the work for them."

"And that's why you took me as your disciple." Kento figured. "But weren't there better options?"

Susanoo shook his head. "Stronger? Yes. Better? No."

This confused Kento but Susanoo explained further.

"Your ability to use light makes you a variable that can be used when the Christian factions get offensive." He said. "But truth be told, you are nowhere near strong enough for that now."

Kento could not deny it. He had seen how strong some of those beings were.

"But there is time." Susanoo said. "We have time to train you."

Hearing this, Kento knew…

'It is either going to be great… Or it will be hell.'
