It was only two days before the start of the school year and I had the surprise coming from my subordinates.
"My King," The hologram appeared in front of me of a harpy. "The nest is under attack. What are your orders my lord?"
"Attack?"
"Yes. A group of Wyverns are nearby and I believe conflict will be inevitable within half an hour."
I frowned at that. I was about to bite into the sandwich I made with a lot of preparation and effort. That wasn't just an ordinary sandwich... It's THE SANDWICH.
"Aren't you going to eat?" Angelie asked leaning against the kitchen counter.
"Ummmm," I looked at Sandwich in pain, before opening the fridge and stepping away from him. "I'll eat later. Duty calls."
She looks at me curiously but doesn't ask me the details, "I'll go check if Valerie-chan is alright. I'll be back later."
Valerie lived in one of Angelie's hideouts, keeping her away from Rivezim was one of my priorities. I still needed to organize some things before she could live with us or in the nest.
With no magic teleportation circle, the world around me disappears and I find myself in the blink of an eye above the skies of the nest entrance.
The vision of the skies is of celestial warfare, countless harpies flying around dressed in armor and in their boots blades imitating claws that are magic items. Another left had magic books floating around them amplifying their magical capabilities.
"King."
"The King has arrived," said some voices in the crowd in excitement.
Still high in the skies, the throng of harpies part ways, giving place for my sweet queen to flap her wings to stand beside me.
"Hmph. I thought you weren't coming," said the queen a little tsundere. "You have more important things, don't you?"
"Oh? Looks like the last few days I haven't had time to visit my sweet queen and she already misses me," I smiled at her.
The white haired harpy instead of responding to my taunt, she just looks away to the horizon, but I could see the blush on her cheeks.
"You sound like we haven't seen each other in a while, but it's only been three days," I said in a teasing voice.
Only three days without 'farming', the way I call the method--ummmm-- to increase mana with my Harpies, and they all missed me.
Ignoring my taunts, the queen says with a cold face, "Every five years this same situation repeats itself. This isn't the first time we've been attacked by this Wyvern group. They could have slaughtered us a long time ago, but they only kill a certain amount and then leave."
Do they just kill a little and leave? What is the purpose of this? Did they have fun with it? I wondered internally.
From a distance and with index using all vision-enhancing spells on me, I could see three large Wyverns sitting on a hill.
The ground around us is a forest that is the entrance to the nest, the same place Angelie had left me, playing the role of Hikimage.
The surrounding landscape is a forest of tall trees, with few stretches of water and some hills in the background.
"They live in the swamps~" before the queen completes saying, she stop and, "They're moving."
Two Wyverns took flight.
"My daughters," said the Queen loud and clear. "Fear not. We'll show these fools how wrong they are in messing with the nest. Show them the power your majesty," The harpies thrill at the thought of fighting for me, "Those who are cowards can go back to the nest and hide like chickens. There is no place for cowards in your majesty's army."
None of the Harpies moved from their positions. They were ready to die if necessary. It's in their DNA not to fear death. They are ancient warriors of the Greek pantheon, who now serve their new god who has given them even more incredible powers than before.
When their race served Hades and Persephone, they had divine blessings that strengthened them to the Devil level of the middle class and some High class. Of course, the only one who knew this is the queen who is the only surviving harpy of the old generation.
All the others were born without serving the Greek pantheon, they are young and less than five hundred years old.
The 'blessing' of their new god made the blessing of the Greek pantheon a joke.
Of course, I wasn't a god. I had already tried to convince my Queen that Index was not a blessing, but nothing seemed to take her away from the idea that I was a deity.
Added to my ability to satisfy all of them, it was common sense among them that I couldn't be a human.
The harpies just didn't understand why I was hiding my true identity, but they believed that everything I did had a purpose.
*ROOOOAAAAARRRR*
Shouted one of the wyverns, speeding toward the Harpies' vanguard.
The wyverns didn't understand why the harpies were dressed in armor and were so different from before, but after indecision they decided to attack.
"King, lend us your power," said a sizable group of harpies in unison.
With those words spoken, their version [Fighter] spell had been activated.
[Fighter] was the conglomeration of passive physical reinforcement spells that I put into one activation. However, some modifications needed to be made to suit their different physiology.
It didn't take long, a few days ago, I successfully modified the spell. That day I was tired and just kidding so to speak... I chose this wake-up phrase.
It was just supposed to be a joke, but...
Asking their king's power and even from afar he still responding, made the Harpies feel that they were serving a being outside of this reality.
It was as if he could hear them from afar, at all times, regardless of where they were.
Some Harpies even started talking to themselves from time to time as if they were talking to me.
Sweat was running down the back of my neck at that ridiculous thing.
"Screeeechhhhh" yelled the more excited Harpy towards the wyvern.
The green-scaled giant is startled by the unexpected speed and beats its wings harder, causing a very large dome-shaped wind.
I could feel the draconic energy in that simple flap of wings, it was magic totally different from human. It was more primitive and fierce.
Wyverns were distant cousins of dragons. Although much weaker, they were still beings that live in another category of power.
Those two that were closest to the vanguard are of ultimate class energy levels (8-winged Angels) and the other wyvern that watches from afar on the hill is almost reaching the final class (10-winged Angels).
Five hundred Harpies were sent away due to the big windstorm, but luckily they managed to regain control in a few breaths and fly.
Six hundred harpies who were in the highest position, their wings gain glow activating their newly learned techniques.
It was division one, under the command of the queen who learned her art of turning feathers into blades.
A never-ending shower of blades headed for the two wyverns. These blades had various enchantment elemental spells, fire, wind, light, darkness and many other elements that were made through [Index].
Only 40% of Harpies had reached the High-class devil level in energy or physical strength. Most still had power bordering on this level of power.
But the countless passives, enhancement spells, and their massive numbers made them extremely powerful. They are able to skip a power league.
Before the blades hit them, at least 16 different types of curses had hit them. Blindness, disorientation, super sensitive hearing...
It was Division Two that had assassins specializing in curses.
Even with the curses the wyverns just followed their extinct survival that screamed danger.
*ROOOOAAAAAAARRR* They roared in unison.
This was no ordinary roar.
From their wings and roars the wind element spins around their bodies. Trees on the ground are uprooted and fly away with the power of the storm.
It was two whirling hurricanes with the two in the center.
Many blades veered off course and the harpies held on as best they could in the skies due to the violence of the wind.
This was the Battle of supernatural beings capable of changing an entire battlefield.
"Keep formation," yelled one of the harpies shakily but her body freezes at the sight of death coming from afar.
The most powerful wyvern on the hill opened its jaws and a sphere of wind the size of at least 10 meters in diameter flew at high speeds.
It was impossible for those harpies to dodge, at least two hundred of them would die and others would be injured.
Suddenly...
From the heights of the sky an iron gate at least 30 meters high fell, making a deafening noise as it landed on the ground, forming a huge barrier protecting them.
The creak of iron against the whisper of the winds was enormous.
But in the end the gate held firm regardless of the impact.
They looked confused at the size of that structure that appeared so suddenly, but soon the harpies turned towards me and they saw my hands extended towards them.
"It's king," said a harpy in a fangirl tone.
"He protected us," said the harpy passionately.
The astrology tower of the Grauzauberer association is a work of art of alchemy and its interior had strong space magic, creating a giant pocket dimension. Johann Georg Faust really deserved the title of genius.
Through the work and knowledge gained there, I managed to create a pocket dimension the size of a football state and inside I filled it with items I made with alchemy.
The giant iron gate is an alchemy-created item that I kept in my pocket dimension. It would even withstand the attack of a 8-winged angel.
-------------
[Index] detected a type of primitive communication, telepathy with draconic energy.
------------
I already knew about those energies and was currently working on index in my mind. I developed a kind of special communication between myself and index. Without the need for keyboards I could modify it with my mind.
Index didn't have a true conscience, but I could lead a 'conversation' to create new modifications and spells in real time. Much faster if I had to type on the keyboard.
A language only she and I understood.
In a matter of milliseconds I finished the spell and 'heard'.
[Damn it, Aniki. Let's kill as many as possible and run away] one of the wyverns, sent telepathically to the other.
The wyvern even with the previous hurricanes still had some feathers piercing its scales. He responded telepathically in irritation, [Hermes-sama didn't tell us these bugs could get this strong.]
[You two idiots, come back immediately. We have to tell Hermes-dono everything] Ordered the Wyvern that was still on the distant hill.
With my waving of my hands, the vanguard harpies who were closest to the wyvern were teleported to a safer distance.
And I appeared in the blink of an eye in front of everyone.
[YOU COME TO MY HOUSE. Threaten to KILL my dear Harpies and wish to go away like that? This is unacceptable.] I said telepathically to the three of them.
A silence settled between the wyverns in fear as they heard my voice in their heads.
"Do you know the language of dragons?" one of the wyverns asked in human language, disbelieving.
"Oh? You speak human language. Mmm, was that the language of dragons?" I pondered briefly in silence.
"W-Who was the traitor who taught you?" one of them asked angrily.
It was a well-hidden secret that the draconic races, whether they were wyvern or not, had secret and exclusive communication with them.
"Our king is going to fight," said many harpies in fan tones in the background.
"No. We can't let him. We have to protect him," another group was saying.
They were torn between excited to see me in action or worried that I was at risk.
"If you think~" Before the wyvern on the hill could say it, his instincts screamed in danger.
Small magic circles appeared around each of the three wyverns, at least 10 for each.
From these magic circles, streams of a golden glowing material flew towards the wyverns at a speed above the speed of sound.
The wyvern that was on the hill was smarter and took flight, dodging...
But luck was not on his side. One of the chains caught the ankle of his leg.
Just a brief touch on those chains was enough for him to lose his strength, "IMPOSSIBLE???!!! ANTI-DRAGON ELEMENT?" he glared at the chains that pulled him down and coiled around his body like a snake.
They could feel the holy, anti-dragon element in those chains.
If you followed the golden chains towards the magic circles, inside my pocket dimension...
These chains were actually connected to the old spear of Saint George.
This spear had the powerful anti-dragon element and holy energy. The weapon that Saint George bathed in the blood of countless dragons.
I was taking advantage of the weapon's own strengths to create something new.
These chains that had sharp points were the extension of St. George's own spear, recently modified by me.
"You will regret it strange. We are here on Lord Hermes orders," roared one of them in anger.
I looked down at the image of them lying on the ground and tied up without any fear.
"You'll tell me everything later," I snapped my fingers and huge magic circles lit up beneath them, which engulfed them completely. "Your defeats were doomed ever since you separated me from my sandwich."
Within my pocket dimension, the three wyverns were floating in the black void, bound by chains.
If I didn't remove them from these chains, they would suck every ounce of their powers, further strengthening the spear and, by extension, the chains attached to it.
"Ummm, is it over?" asked one of the incredulous Harpies.
Everyone wondered how I had defeated them so easily, it was even anti-climatic.
They expected a fierce battle and light show.
But it didn't take me more than a few breathers to defeat them and not only that, contain them.
Enkidu's chains, that's what I named them. They had high power against dragons.
Wyverns were easily slaughtered as they could fit into the dragon category.
Otherwise I wouldn't win so easily.
"Our king is amazing," They would say in their harpy ways, very loud.
One after another, they dropped to the floor and knelt towards me.
In the end the two thousand who came to the battlefield were kneeling.
My queen came flying up beside me and asked, "What shall we do now, my King?"
"You? Go back to the nest," I said to Clear tone. "As for me? I have an appointment."
I quickly said goodbye and teleported back to the house.
I walk down the stairs at a hurried pace.
A feeling of foreboding came over my being.
Something wasn't right.
I pass through the kitchen door and my eyes see a scene of terror.
I fell to the ground in defeat.
"Umm? Why are you on the ground, Motohama?" asked Mr. Sato near the fridge towards me.
In his hands was just another tiny, insignificant piece of what was once my sandwich. Mr. Sato, unaware of my pain, puts the rest in his mouth and chews.
"Those sandwiches were wonderful. Thanks for thinking of your dad and making one for me," He had a grateful look in my direction.
"..."
Today was my first big defeat since I came into this world.
Some wyverns will be trapped and suffer for a long time.
