DxD | Child of Ira

Reincarnation was a treasured dream for many people and I had been lucky enough to receive it. I was granted a wonderful family, plenty of wealth, and the blessing of magic but everything came at a cost. In this case, it was the intrinsic danger of the world where gods roamed freely and myth was merely a forgotten truth. I had been reborn in Highschool DxD. **** If you enjoy my work you can support me on patre*on.com/TrapOverlord for up to 12 chapters ahead.

Chapter 79

"What?" Muttering softly with confusion in her eyes Rias looked at Damian in a mix of worry and doubt. Based on what she's heard Damian would be something akin to a hero's reincarnation but that wasn't the same thing.

There were three main types of hero reincarnation. The first method was the reincarnation of the soul, this was the category that Kiba fell under. The second was the reincarnation of the body, otherwise known as descendants.

The third and final option was the reincarnation of the body of the soul. In simple terms, it was the actual reincarnation of the hero and to make a long explanation short, it was the process of a hero's soul resisting the process of reincarnation of their area and recreating their body.

"Well, it may be more correct to say he was the model I was based on." Damian explained, a small playful grin on his face. It was once one of his favorite things to do, to withhold information and watch the expression on the person's face. He was regressing.

"Model? Then are your parents…" Rias murmured, abject horror appearing on her face. Alastor and Astros Thaumiel were wonderful people but when the idea crossed her mind she couldn't help but believe it. They were always enigmatic…

"They're my parents." Damian declared with a lighthearted chuckle. "Has Ajuka told you about my clan's trait?" Nodding her head to Damian's question the memories of the conversation crossed her mind.

It happened only a few months ago, not long after the two of them reunited, and it was more of a warning than an explanation. Ajuka had made time in his busy schedule just to give her a single completely serious.

Don't push him was what it boiled down to. In Ajuka's words, Damian was a cornered wolf. It was pitiful and wounded but it would bare its fangs at anyone who so much as looked at it. Even Ajuka had to be cautious around his prized student, let alone her.

"That's disappointing." Damian murmured softly, a small yet familiar frown on his face. "In any case, my clan trait has to do with our souls because of him. His soul was so overwhelmingly powerful that he hasn't even died to this day."

"How does he compare to your soul?" Rias inquired curiously, her otaku spirit ignited. While she hadn't indulged much recently her love for the worlds of Japanese fantasy practically demanded she power scale these two figures!

"I'm just a bit stronger." Damian replied calmly, completely unperturbed by her question. Yet while his answer was the truth it wasn't the entire truth. The average soul of a devil could be equated to a match while the soul of a Thaumiel was more akin to a candle flame.

Satan however could only be considered a fire that would burn down the world. His soul was incomparable to any being in this world and only now, dozens of millennia later, had he been surpassed.

Damian, however, was the sun. His soul burned brighter than any other and with the addition of the newly formed Dragon Heart, it was nearing self sufficiency. He was almost perfection, true perfection.

He didn't need to cheat like Ophis or Great Red nor did he have to stop halfway like Shiva, he was truly perfect. The only one of his kind, a truest perfect being with no equal. Biologically speaking, he was the greatest thing the universe had ever birthed.

"Anyways, that man has always been alive and used his meager influence to make this body of mine in an attempt to help his descendants. I suppose I'd be something akin to a messiah of our kin." Damian declared with a chuckle.

"Descendants? You have kids hubby~?" Akeno slurred, seductively reaching over the table. Of course, in her intoxication, she didn't exactly know where he was and her hand found itself on a… different individual.

"Akeno." Rias murmured coldly, her eyes colder than even Cocytus as Akeno boldly assaulted her chest. If it had been Damian and not her as Akeno had wanted… Suffice it to say, Rias was jealous.

"No, I'm talking about the devil race as a whole. All of us are descendants of that man, even if not in the most literal sense." Damian retorted her drunken claim calmly, an amused smile as he looked at Rias' wide eyes and Akeno's complete bewilderment.

It was common knowledge that Lucifer and Lilith acted as the mother and father of the entire devil race, it was even proven throughout the years. However, with everything being shown to her today, Rias had no doubt it was the truth.

"The clan traits…" Rias murmured with wide eyes, realization washing over her. Upon their first meeting, Satan had said that the Bael clan trait was his favorite. She had taken it as nonsense or even from an observer's perspective but…

"Correct. Nearly all of the clan traits originated from him, especially those of the pillars. My family wasn't lucky enough to get any of them but at least they still exist." Damian explained with an infinitely amused grin.

All things considered, it was probably a good thing the Thaumiel didn't awaken any of them. It may have negatively affected their clan, pushing them toward extinction much like many of the pillars had already experienced.

"That's enough for our impromptu history lesson, right? It's getting late, you should be heading back." Damian declared calmly, stripping himself of his bloody coat and loosening his tie. He had always been so bad with those but now he hardly struggled with them.

"I love you." Blurting out the words that she truly felt Rias felt a blush threatening to taint her cheeks and desperately fought it off. Whether it be his inclination to distance himself, his enigmatic attitude, or his complicated past, none of them could stop her from loving him.

For a single moment, Damian froze, inwardly glad he was turned away. A mere moment later he teleported his coat away and acted as though nothing had happened, acting natural as though nothing had happened. "I know." He replied calmly, a small taint of crimson on his ears.

"Damian…" Wrapping her arms around Damian's broad back Rias' eyes were focused on her fiancee alone. From the time he stood up for her against Riser to now her feeling hadn't changed at all. There had been trouble but… what did it matter now?

Magically stripping herself and teleporting Akeno away she stood bare. She would take the next step, for herself and for him.
