Saddle and Stirrup In The Making

Adrian let Tombas recruit the department staff. The former chief knows dunirrs here better than he is. Due to many things that occurred, Adrian never had a chance to get to know dunirrs. Well, he'll socialize with them when he has free time.

"Chief, where should we put these birds?" Haja asked.

"Yeah...I totally forgot about them." Adrian is trying to search for a suitable place. His finger then pointed in a certain direction. "What about up there?"

Everybody else looked in the direction he showed. Specifically, the towering tree in the middle of the city. It's the only object undisturbed from any construction that happened around it. Unfortunately, Adrian set his eyes on that tree. His mind is already thinking of a way to fully use this natural skyscraper.

"How do we get up there?" Haja said while his eyes stared at the tall tree.

"With birds we caught." Moja gave a short reply.

Haja asked again, "How do we get down then?"

The same idiot shrugs his shoulder, "I don't know...Jump, I guess?"

"Moja, anyone jumping to the ground from that height will die. It's 20 meters tall based on my estimation," said Adrian.

"What's your suggestion, chief?"

"Let's see...Why don't we make a pulley system to raise the platform like an elevator? We'll build a house for this bird in every level branch." As requested, Adrian told them his suggestion.

He had planned to use the tree as a breeding ground and expand the total quantity of birds for future use. At least enough to establish his air force.

Looking at them, all he sees is a blank face. Only then is he aware of his mistake. He had muttered a bunch of incompressible words to them. With a sigh, he slowly explained his idea for forty minutes.

"Ohh!!" They all exclaimed as soon as they came to a realization. Adrian on the other hand had his exhaustion reach a new height.

"Those things can be pushed back. For now, put the birds outside of the east gate. Prioritize the construction of the department building first. It is such a waste that we build this grand city without any sort of administration."

"Don't worry, chief. You can take a good rest and leave it to us." Tombas assured him.

"Alright, Tombas. One more thing, can you send someone to bring me rabbit fur pelts, wood, and sewing tools to my house?"

"Sure, chief."

Adrian picked up his bags and walked toward his new house on the east side of the city, not far from the plaza and commercial district.

It's a landed house located at the corner lot.

*Creak*

Adrian opened the door. Like all houses nearby, it has three bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, a bathroom, and a toilet. Overall, it mimics the layout of modern houses. The only problem is there's no plumbing. If he wished for water, he had to get it from the river.

Inside, there's absolutely nothing. He has no complaints though. Furniture can come later. For now, the floor would do.

Somehow, Adrian feels a bit sentimental when thinking about millions of people burdened by loans. Tears subconsciously flowed out from the corner of his eyes. "I can't believe I owned a house in this world. That too for free."

[Cut it off. You haven't checked the room yet].

"Alright, alright." His feet moved toward the biggest room among the three. "I assume this one is the master bedroom. Not bad."

[I agree. The windows were well placed, allowing natural light to come in. At the same time, it prevents dunirrs on the street from seeing the interior of the room when the window was wide open. Hence, protecting its residents' privacy].

*Knock* *Knock* *Knock*

Ariel's lengthy commentary had to stop because of the knocking sound interrupting her.

"It must be the materials sent by Tombas." Adrian promptly reached the front door where he was given the items he requested. Rabbit fur pelts, woods, bone needle and coarse thread.

[Are you going to make saddles and stirrups for your goshawk?]

He smirks, "Yup! Aries, search for the method to make them."

[Wait for a second]

[Ding! Result found!]

Several blueish panels floated in his vision. A detailed explanation of the manufacturing process. From treating the leather to making saddle tree, seats, girths and panels.

"Oh boy, this is harder than I thought. Before I start doing anything, I need to redesign it as these instructions are for a horse. The main consideration I need to take is the comfortability of the bird flapping and folding its wings. Also, the overall weight needs to be as light as possible to ensure the manoeuvrability of movement. When it comes to aerial attacks, speed is the highest priority. Dunirrs can't compete with humans in terms of strength, so we need to cause lethal damage in one strike."

After arranging his thoughts, Adrian searched for a way to draw his design. Due to the lack of paper, he had to do it on the ground with a twig. Fortunately, Aries came to rescue him from going through such laborious work.

[Master, I have a better way]

Before Adrian could even ask, he felt the mana flowing inside his body. He knows it was Aries doing. Nonetheless, thinking about her capability to access his body to the cell level still causes a shiver in his spine. If she decides to take over his body, there is nothing he can do to stop her.

Soon, mana shoots out from his eyes. It creates a blue hologram of his goshawks with a 1:1 scale size floating in the middle of the bedroom.

"You can do this?! It'll save a lot of my time!" He asked with amazement.

[Yes, I can. It's not that hard. More importantly, doing this consumes mana. Grab that twig and use it as a pen to draw. Make sure to channel mana to the twig as well.]

Without delay time, he started drawing his design line by line. Every messy line he made gets autocorrected as he intentionally desired. His idea materializes smoothly into the drawing. It's a perfect combination of imagination, creativity and realism. Not only that, he can apply the hologram design, simulate its performance and gather some data. Using the data obtained, he can improvise his design.

"Damn, I feel like that one superhero designing his iron suit. Never know designing can be this fun." He felt so much satisfaction during the entire process.

After spending the entire afternoon making some designs and alterations, Adrian ended up choosing the one with the best performance.

In theory, there's nothing wrong.

In reality, actual products always go wrong.

He doesn't put too much hope that everything will go well. It's up to his workmanship now.

[The sun is already set. Why not take a rest and continue tomorrow?]

Adrian shook his head while his hand grabbed the materials, "Once I got immersed in something, it's hard for me to stop."

[As you wish, Master]

His hand move smoothly without hesitation under the blue light from the hologram. He cut the material with high precision according to the measurement he made.

Typically, working in this dark environment with little light would damage the eyes. However, Adrian has no regard for that in his mind. In the end, he spends the entire night working.

By the time he finishes, a new day arrives.

He looks at his first creation with a proud face. "Let's go and test it out. Hopefully, it worked. My brain is tired to do any adjustments."
