Demonstrating Magic

"Alright guys, move to the side," said Adrian while waving his hand and pushing them aside.

The Dunirrs look at him with a questionable gaze. They're wondering what with the sudden instructions yet none of them arise any objections. They knew well how peculiar this new chief is.

Within a few seconds, the path immediately opened for Adrian.

He walks forward before standing in front of the preplanned main road. The dunirrs have cleared out all the vegetation and flattened the surface. The speed of working dunirrs showcases him is truly impressive.

Perhaps Adrianopolis can be completed earlier than he expected.

According to the plan, all roads will be made using stone. With their current technologies, he knows it'll take forever for them to complete.

After taking a deep breath, he channelled the mana in his body and started pouring it onto the ground.

Time passed for several minutes, and beats of sweat gradually formed on his face.

The dunirrs surrounding Adrian look at their chief with perplexed looks on their face. They still couldn't understand what he was trying to do.

Five minutes later as Adrian roughly guesses, one meter of the ground hardens and turns into rock.

"I knew it!' Adrian inwardly exclaimed. He let out a long sigh of relief. His face shows happiness despite there's hint of tiredness.

His initial assumption was on point. Since soil is a weathered rock, it means he can reverse it back. Under natural circumstances, the process of rock turning into the soil is called the weathering process. The rock breaks down physically into small fragments first. Then, the rock changes chemically due to rain or air. Finally, the fragment was broken down biologically by living organisms. This process can take tens of thousands of years.

But Adrian just did it in a matter of minutes by using magic.

[Warning! You almost depleted your mana]

He looked at his status panel.

[Mana: 0.5/200]

He was surprised by his remaining mana. 'What a huge consumption! To convert one meter of soil depleted almost all of my mana.'

[Mana consumption is dependent on the complexity of the process].

Aries added another new fact for him.

While Adrian is lamenting, the dunirrs are standing in awe and fear.

Some smart-looking dunirrs are whispering among themselves. Possibly try to figure out the reasoning behind this weird occurrence.

"The current chief is amazing."

"A work of miracles indeed."

"What kind of sorcery is this?"

"This is an illusion! Wake up to reality everyone!"

Tombas braved himself and asked, "C-Chief... How do you do that? Is this a power from your world?"

Adrian shook his head, he opened his mouth. "No, this is mana. The power of this world. The key to changing Dunirr's fate."

He ignored the murmurs around him as he had something important to do. Replenishing his mana.

Adrian lowered his body to the ground and sat in a cross-legged position. He slowly closed his eyes and began to feel mana in the air.

His action startled the dunirrs but none of them hinder him from doing so.

A series of notifications from Aries resound in his head. Not a bit he thought it was distracting. In fact, he feels content every time he hears it.

By now, he kind of understands why people like system-type web novels or graphics novels so much. The feeling of seeing the results of his hard work in a representational value is very satisfying.

If everyone on Earth has a system like Aries, he bet none of them would give up on their dream so easily.

New things he noticed are that his absorption rate of mana has doubled and it somehow becomes a lot easier to sense mana. He can safely say his rate of absorption is 1 Earthia Mana per second.

Given his maximum mana cap is only 200, he only needs approximately three minutes to level up.

Adrian didn't realise it but during the time he focused on absorbing mana, his entire body is literally glowing. This phenomenon ends up causing the level of respect towards him to reach a whole new level.

*Ding*

[You've levelled up!]

After hearing that specific notification, Adrian opened his eyes and checked his status.

'Nice! If I continue at this rate, I would be unmatched in the whole world.'

His happiness didn't last long as Aries interject him.

[Fat chance! Such a big dream for a small man. Your stats can increase which means that they can decrease as well. I hope you remember that. Nothing stays the same if you neglect it].

'Tch, can't you let me daydream for a bit?'

[You can daydream all you want but don't forget about the fact I just told you. People often think they're above others just because they had a slight advantage. I simply remind you because of your addiction to reading web novels. Although your situation is similar to that of the protagonist in novels, you can still die].

'I feel this reminder of yours is a bit personal. Do you have a bad experience with someone like that?'

Adrian received no reply to his question as Aries stays silent for a moment but she then spoke again.

[You better go and demonstrate magic to them now. I feel like they would end up punching a hole with only a stare].

Although Adrian is aware of Aries's effort to change the topic, he doesn't mind at all. If she doesn't want to talk, then he won't pursue it.

'Fine, fine.'

He then demonstrated a few techniques he created using [Earth Manipulation] in front of them as an example. For him, it's nothing fancy about this technique. But to them, it's like a miracle.

The main point is imagination, creativity and the reservoir of one's mana.

For a modern person like Adrian, it doesn't sound really hard.

There are modern weapons, television shows, movies, anime and manga to name a few that help him picture his imagination. Moreover, he has Aries to quantify his total quantity of mana and his other stats.

However, it can't be said the same for dunirrs who never see those things in their life. They lack imagination and knowledge. Thus, in the future, the job of helping them materialize their imaginations would fall onto him.

Once Adrian's mind returned from his deep thoughts, he was showered with reverent and pleading eyes.

He naturally understood what they wanted from him. Power.

They finally see the light of hope to their eternal curse.

Curse of the weakling.

"Please teach us, chief!" Tombas pleaded to him. To show his seriousness, the former chief kneels in front of him.

"Yeah, me too!'

Soon after, Adrian was surrounded on all sides.

Somehow, their action irritated him. They remind him of his little cousins who barged into his room and rummage through his collection of action figures.

"CALM THE F*CK DOWN!" He shouted. The dunirrs quiet down. "I'll teach you tomorrow if you finish your task today. We still have a city to build."
