Either because he was overprotective, or because he didn't want Jenna to have the chance to see Blake anywhere, Ryan asked John to come and check on Jenna's condition. Their friendship, which was originally tenuous, was forced to return for the sake of Jenna.
Neither Jenna nor Ryan told Clara—who was there at the time—that John was coming. In fact they are not conspiring at all, but fate is trying to bring John and Clara together, under different circumstances.
Don't ask how they react when they meet. Clara, of course, felt awkward and chose to stay away from John who was checking Jenna's condition accompanied by Ryan.
He chose to be alone and chose a hidden place so that no one else would know. Including John.
