Since he could not specifically target Mikasa, he decided to look for emotions that were relatively easy to sense.
'Grief, but mostly with a gray tone of lifelessness rather than a sad rainy day.'
Emotions are something he excelled at understanding, albeit in his own way. To eren, grief had many forms. Some would cry while victimizing themselves, some would go into shock and close themselves to the world, some would blame themselves, and the vast majority of people would try to shift the blame, unable to bear the weight of their own emotions.
'Mikasa would probably go into shock.'
Thus they started targeting people with such emotions.
Most of the people he sensed were quickly crossed off as he saw their locations but one stood out among the rest.
It was a shabby wooden place, quite isolated, and a perfect place to hide.
He didn't even bother to scout the place before teleporting right inside.
With his senses still flared open, he could see the world moving at a slug's place. Mikasa's mother died after being stabbed in the back and a man holding a knife currently moving it towards her head.
He didn't even bother to stop and interrogate them. Sure, Eren may potentially stop a crime syndicate, but what they do don't matter to him. Targeting Mikasa from now on would be a fruitless endeavor so he was not that worried after seeing her alive.
The person guarding the door and the one currently trying to kill Mikasa froze in ice. It didn't even take a second to finish them. The ice, breaking into smaller bits and disappearing did create a nice spectacle but eren was now focused on Mikasa who remained motionless.
"Hey." He called her out with a concerned tone. The reaction he got was a slight movement of her head as if finally acknowledging his presence.
Unfortunately, Eren did not know what to do from here. His friend had just become an orphan and he was homeless. So, with no words to console the poor girl, he picked up the scarf he carried with himself to remind him of home and wrapped it around her.
To his surprise, that managed to get a reaction out of her, an excess amount, one could say, considering the embodiment of life seemed to blossom within her eyes. They were no longer the sparkly innocent eyes he once saw while playing house. They were bright eyes looking straight at salvation.
"Are you okay?" The concern in his voice was apparent. Yet the question remained unanswered.
'Maybe, she's distracting herself.' Deciding to ignore the strange turn in emotions, he looked around the house for money and robbed the dead people before taking the young girl out of the house.
Holding her hand, he led her out of the house, thinking of what to do from here on out with the girl who for some reason started fidgeting as soon as he touched her.
At first, he mistook it for her fear of men due to some new trauma but realized she was just afraid to let go after she started getting closer and closer to his body while mumbling something until she clung to his body like a koala.
Letting out a mental sign, he called her out.
"Oi." Seeing that he managed to catch her attention he puffed out his cheeks and let out a giant fireball toward the house.
"I can drop you off at an orphanage where you will get food, shelter, clothing, and all the other things you used to get before all this happened, so just close your eyes or I'll eat your brains."
He hoped that would dissuade her from following him. After all, children are generally afraid of man-eating, fire-breathing monsters in human skin, right?
However, fate seemed to fuck with him every step of the way.
"PLEASE NO! I'LL DO ANYTHING. JUST DON'T LEAVE ME EREN. PLEASE. I BEG YOU."
"W-wait calm down. Calm down. CALM DOWN YOU BRAT!" The yell at the end managed to shut her up but didn't manage to loosen up her grip on him. In fact, she held on tighter than before, with such strength that it would put grown men to shame.
'Abnormal strength.' He kept that to himself instead of asking her about it. She was stronger than the average adult, yes. But that will not help much when facing off against the Titans.
"I'm older than I look. I'm-"
"Doesn't matter." She replied before he could even finish his sentence. "I just want to be with you Eren......Is that too much to ask?" She said so, after showing those puppy eyes.
"Ereen do you....loathe me? Am I repulsive? It's okay, you just need to tell me which part of me you find horrible to look at, I'll remove it."
"Look just calm down. I know you're shocked but this is derailing to a whole new level of shock."
"Oh, am I annoying? Well, then you need to teach me. I don't want to be an outcast. I'll listen to everything you say."
Eren slowly stepped away from her and spoke.
"What If I started doing indecent things with you?" He asked, hoping to scare her away. However, instead of stepping back, Mikasa's body shuddered, as if being electrified. Sweat drizzled down her face and she could feel the scarf on her neck slowly getting wet from sweat.
'This scarf is Eren's.' The realization hit her like a truck as her body shook more than ever before. Swiftly pulling it up her nose, she sniffed it. The thought of her sweat drenching Eren's scarf made her feel funny.
'It belongs to Eren.' She repeated those words inside her head and felt euphoric.
'He will do something to me if I follow him? Force me to do something.....like what my dad does to mom every night. Yes, the thing they do at night is indecent right? So he will do the same things to me. Against my will.'
The more she brainstormed the foggier her mind got. Her thoughts got wilder every second until she came back full circle to her initial conclusion.
'It belongs to Eren.'
Her breathing intensified and she looked closely at Eren in front of her. As her breathing increased, the look she gave to Eren grew more savage.
'If it belongs to Eren, and he gave it to me, then Eren belongs to ME!
Sadly her erratic behavior was seen as hyperventilation and trauma in Eren's eyes.
"I trust you." Oh, how she wished to tell him about her desires. But that needed time. She planned to get closer to him. Infinitely closer. Drive him to the edge, make him depend on her. She knew he was strong, probably the strongest, but his psyche was weak.
She would always lend him a shoulder, and train him, such that he would go to any lengths for her sake.
'MINE!'
"I eat human meat. I'm a cannibal."
"Go ahead~" Yet her twisted desires overtook her reasoning.
"YOU!"
"NO!"
"….AAAAAAAAAAA FINE HAVE IT YOUR WAY!"
