Chapter 53: Dinner on the Castle Deck

Julietta looked at Raine when the call ended. He was looking at her with his mouth half-open in anticipation.

“My friends are insisting on coming over to see whether I’m okay,” she announced.

“What is it about Chase’s natural mother?” Raine asked immediately. It was as if he had not heard what she had just said. Wasn’t he bothered about her friends coming over uninvited?

“They have an idea about who it is, but I think you should wait for them so that they can tell you themselves,” Julietta replied.

“Why?” Raine asked.

“They want to surprise you themselves,” Julietta replied.

“I don’t understand,” Raine remarked. “They want to surprise me, but at the same time they want to see if you’re safe with me?”

“All I can say for now, is that half of them are excited for you and the other half are skeptical,” Julietta responded. She did not want to be specific about exactly who was doubtful about her safety in Raine’s company.
