The Letter.

Ivan was in his office reviewing some contracts where a knock came from his door. "Come on in." He said as he put the papers down on his desk and looked up to see who would come through. It was Trevor Holly, one of his best friends. "Wow you look rough." Trevor looked worn out and tired from traveling. The town they were in, Riverlocke, was the furthest from the kingdom which is where Ivan assumed he had ridden in from.

"Shut up." Trevor replied as he approached the other male. Ivan got up and gave Trevor a big hug. Trevor was more stocky than he was. Probably due to the fact that he still had a lot of field work. Ivan did more desk work these days. He was a nobleman now. He was soon to be mayor of Riverlocke. "Here." Trevor handed a crinkled envelope to Ivan from inside his jacket.

Ivan took it from him and inspected it. "Fuck." He said when he saw the wax seal of the king on the closure. "Oh yeah." Trevor said with a smirk. Trevor and Ivan had a playful friendship. They enjoyed seeing each other in turmoil when it didn't pertain to themselves. Ivan had an idea what the letter could be about. His father and a few high ups had been pressuring him to take a wife so that he could fully assume the position of the mayor of Riverlocke.

Ripping the letter open Ivan unfolded it and read…'Dear Mr. Ivan James-Ward III, Please find a suitable partner to wed within 2 weeks time. The Masters of Lucens Terra will be at Riverlocke to attend this occasion. Best wishes, Court of Rex.'

Ivan stood there in shock staring at the ridiculous letter in his fists.

"So what's it about? I got paid about two hundred coins just to bring it your way from the royal palace." Trevor was a very well known mercenary who only took high end jobs. So he knew that when he was offered this mission it was going to be pretty important.

Ivan pushed the letter into Trevor's chest and turned to look at his desk. He was about to lose his mind. Why does everyone want me to get married so badly? He thought to himself. He ran his hand through his black locks from the forehead to the back. "Ugh." He groaned.

"Damn, so who's the lucky lady?" Trevor asked after reading through the letter and crumpling it up before tossing it in the bin. Ivan didn't care. He would have done the same to the letter.

"Or is it not a lady anymore?" Trevor joked and chuckled. Ivan turned to give him a displeasing glare.

"Let's go get a drink at the bar. I've had a long ride here."

The two males exited the office room and headed to the bar in town.
