Dragon Tears

Secrets. We all keep them. Some tend to protect us from harm. Others tend to lead us to it. While Kayda’s secret is one that haunts her. Kayda isn’t human. She never was. All her life, she knew that. The words thrown at her and the fear filled gazes that watched her showed just how much of a monster she was. But she isn’t what those people think she is either. She’s kept her fair amount of secrets hidden. And she intended to keep them, until her barriers we torn down. Kayda has already had her lifetimes worth of pain and misery along with those secrets she keeps. She spent so long fighting, so long trying to survive, that one day, she finally snapped. Her sanity was shredded by the creatures called humans. She was torn down piece by piece to be used as entertainment slowly corroding away what once was her mind. Only to be built back up again to repeat the gruesome process. So she finally gave up. Now, she is nothing but a beast. At least, that’s what she portrays to be. And she would have continued to play her part as the feral pet, but what happens when Dimitri appears? A cold and calculative man, who appeared in what she thought would be her last moments. A man who seemed to have even more secrets then even her, but was still able to show a side of himself that even she had lost. He was ruthless, cold blooded, calculative, and even, warm? So what happens when he’s out on a mission and meets a creature he quickly wants to dismiss? A creature that he had no interest in until he met her eyes. How exactly is Dimitri going to carefully piece Kayda back together again? And how is Kayda going to react to the unfamiliar kindness shown by a stranger? What’s his motive? ———————- “So, your saying, that because you saved me from death, I’m now in your debt?” Kayda was intrigued but at the same time annoyed, seeing the charming tilt in Dimitri’s lips. And as she stared, Dimitri reveled in her gaze. “You could say that.” His mischievous voice didn’t go unnoticed and Kayda felt a slight twitch at the corner of her lip. With a glow in her eyes, she walked up to Dimitri who was staring her down. “I’ll repay a favor. But I’ll never be in your debt.” Slamming a hand down, she growled. “The Goddess wanted me dead for a reason. You’re lucky I don’t show you why.” Dimitri grinned with amusement when suddenly, his hand snaked its way around her waist. “Even the Goddess can’t take you away from me.” He whispered. ————————————- ‘The cover was not made, and is not owned by me. : Rule Number Four

Kayda entered her room after butler Stevens led her back. When he left, she noticed a distinct click of the door when he closed it.

She was locked in.

Kayda looked at the door. A bitter feeling arose in her chest. Locked in. Two words she was strongly familiar with.

She looked at the window. Somehow, it was closed and locked again.

How easy it would be to break those locks. To just run with all her might. But she wouldn't get far. With the power that the man who brought her here had, it wouldn't be long before she was caught.

The bitter feeling of regret bubbled into her throat and stung her heart. She should have run. She should have never believed in the people who brought her here. She was nothing but a beast that needed to be locked into a cage of luxury.

These people where the same as all the others. Humans where all the same when it came to her.

She felt like an exotic pet that was there only for one purpose.

She didn't bother to wash up. The earlier incident where she ran into Micheal opened up some old wounds that she hadn't dared to touch in years.

And she wasn't about to open them now of all times. But it seemed her heart and mind had other plans.

She found a corner in the room and sat there, her body defensively curled up. She felt like the space around her would consume her. The memories she had tried to suppress surged with a wave akin to a tsunami.

She sat there, a storm brewing inside her. She lost herself for a bit at that moment.

Dr. Myer had only made it to the gate when butler Stevens called her back.

"Is there a reason for you to bring me back so soon, butler Stevens?" Dr. Myer was walking behind butler Stevens as he led her back in the direction of the guest bedroom Kayda was staying in.

"I apologize for the inconvenience Dr. Myer." Butler Stevens replied. "But, well," butler Stevens paused.

His pause caused Dr. Myer to narrow her eyes. She became curious at his reaction.

They made it outside of Kayda's room and butler Stevens tried to continue. "Miss Kayda, seemed to have had an, well, 'accident.'"

Dr. Myer didn't respond but she was surprised. Not just one hour after they had met, Kayda had gotten hurt?

What in the world could she do in this overprotected estate that allowed her to get hurt? Jump out a window?

Butler Stevens knocked on the door. After a second, he entered. The few servants that had been allowed to enter this room had become accustomed to the fact that if there is silence, then they could enter. Kayda would say something if she didn't want others in the room, which had only happened once.

When they entered the room, both butler Stevens and Dr. Myer couldn't see Kayda anywhere within their sights.

But after a second, they both spotted a hunched over little ball hidden away in a remote corner of the room.

Dr. Myer looked at the little bundle of dirt hunched over defensively. Her eyes narrowed. What had happened for her to have such a sudden change within an hour?

Taking a step towards her, she called out Kayda's name.

When she didn't respond, she called out her name once again but a little more loudly. But nothing changed.

Without getting a single reaction, Dr. Myer went forward and knelt in front of Kayda.

"Kayda, can you hear me?" That was still no reaction.

With no choice left, she reached out her hand.

Once Kayda felt something touch her, she instinctively lashed out with a low growl. Her fingers extended as they clawed forward and her no longer visible fangs were bared.

Dr. Myer was stunned and fell back onto her bottom with a hiss.

Her tailbone hurt but it didn't seem to be bruised. It would only hurt for an hour or so.

Butler Stevens rushed over to help Dr. Myer up. When she was steadily on her feet, they both looked at Kayda and caught a glimpse of her glazed over expression, as if she was in a completely different world, as she returned to her lucid self.

It only took Kayda a second to realize she had done before she completely curled herself back up defensively.

She couldn't look at them. She had lashed out when they obviously had no ill intentions. They didn't deserve that from her. And she had done it in a state of confusion. She shouldn't have lost herself so recklessly.

She had compromised herself when she did that. But most of all, she had almost harmed someone who had yet to do anything wrong towards her.

She didn't look up at them. But she still apologized. "I'm sorry." Her voice was small and demure like that of a wronged child. It was a completely different character than her normal, cold and distant one that was impassive and defensive.

Right now, she only seemed scared. As if she would be punished gravely for her actions.

But Dr. Myer had no such intentions.

She knelt down in front of Kayda once again. Her voice was calm without any fluctuation as if what had happened was way in the past.

"Kayda. I heard you were injured. I came to check on you." When she spoke this time, she didn't use the same tone she had used when she had first met Kayda. The tone she was using now was a tone she used on patients who were having a mental break.

Kayda wasn't ok. Be it physically or mentally. And Dr. Myer didn't want to further aggravate her because she knew that her usual self was a bit unsympathetic and could give off the impression of dislike for someone when she spoke.

Kayda looked up. She was tentatively looking at Dr. Myer. She could read this person a bit better than the other people in this overbearing estate.

She was one of the easier ones. These types of people never hid their intentions. They didn't care what others thought of her or her actions.

Dr. Myer was a person with ethics. She would never deviate from her beliefs. She didn't let irrelevant people affect her or her job.

It made her trustworthy. But Kayda couldn't bring herself to believe in that trustworthiness.

Rule number four. Do not trust anyone.
