Chapter 9: Rank C, the bottom of the food chain.

After looking at the task given to me by the system, it feels like the system's owner is trying to set me up, cause the reward being offered for the secondary mission is tempting, I don't know about that character deletion thing as that sounds creepy, but the humanoid-Dragon form seems to be worth it. The obvious problem is that it requires me to slap Cari on the face, and thinking back on this woman's attitude up until now, I'm not getting away easily after doing something like that, assuming I even survive long enough to do it.

I also still have to test my blue lava magic, but I don't know if this is a good moment for me to test out new magic, seeing the opponent we're going up against.

Everyone is somewhat anxious and it feels like it's some Kind of ultimatum. Shaking my head at the thought of giving up, I look at Cari once again.

She was wearing a black and red bikini top with a black short skirt, and white thigh-high socks while covering her feet are black boots. Her muscular and tall body is quite rugged up because of her earlier fight with Maltus. It seems that even though he lost, it wasn't by too much.

Looking at the situation, it's a 7 Vs 1, and I wouldn't feel iffy about it if I wasn't feeling way more Ethernano from Cari than from Erza. She's at least a rank S, which isn't good news for us. I just hope she isn't stronger than Erza as they would leave as in a tight spot, but considering everything it is very likely that she is.

"I'm not scared of you! I'll take you down myself!" Natsu ran forward not waiting for anyone, he shorted the distance between himself and Cari in no time.

"Don't jump at the enemy at random without a plan! I swear this guy sold his brain for power... " Gray was also getting ready to attack as he put his hands together in the stance to cast his magic, his dissatisfaction with Natsu's attitude clear on his face.

*sigh* "There's water around... It would be great if I could summon Aquarius... Is there nothing I can do to help?" Lucy was observing the surroundings after sighing, she looked thoughtful as she complained about the lack of a water body she could use to summon her acclaimed most powerful spirit, Aquarius.

"Natsu... Is he going to be okay?" Happy looked worried as he saw Natsu just jump at danger with a smile.

"Does that guy ever stop to think?" Angelica was flying beside Erza looking battle-ready, she necessary.

"Forget him, Gray have that ready for the opening I'm going to create using Natsu as a diversion. Happy take Lucy with you and try to get reinforcements, it's unrealistic but at least trying won't be a problem. As for you, I assume you're one of the new members, we'll have time for introductions later, now I know to know if you can provide cover for me. Finally, Angelica, you'll be ready to attack with Gray when I've created the opening." Erza began giving orders without waiting for a response before giving the next one, she then asked me if I could provide cover before giving more orders.

I considered the abilities I have at hand, and I noticed that I haven't properly explored them yet, even so, I don't think there should be a problem with me using my gluttony dragon slayer magic to help suppress Cari.

"I'll give you cover, just be careful," I answered with as much confidence as I could muster, which wasn't that much but I guess it's enough since Erza nodded to me without saying anything else.

By that time Natsu had already found himself in a pretty tough situation.

Natsu tried to punch Cari with his right hand, he pulled it back then covered it in fire to go all-in with the weight of his body. Unfortunately for him, Cari caught with her bare left hand and pulled Natsu in before beginning to spin him around as if he was weightless.

"Aaaaahhhh! *Blaa-!* Let.... Me *Blaar-!* Go..." Getting spun around for a bit, Natsu's unconventional motion sickness kicked in, it seems dragon slayers are weak to motion sickness once they 'mature', but even if that's considered Natsu is just really weak to it, not that I would blame him as I had experienced a bit of motion sickness whenever I entered a car to go to the hospital, it happened very few times but it was certainly unpleasant.

*Bam!*

With no pity for Natsu whatsoever, Cari smashed him onto the ground creating small cracks due to the impact.

"Disgusting! Don't you dare vomit on me, I'll skin you alive!... You almost ruined my clothes." Cari seemed mad as she looked at Natsu with a devilish smile and stepped on his back with her, then began stomping on him, at least she's not wearing high heels. "Scare me like that one more time and your descends are next!" Caro threatened him while stomping him.

Lucy and Happy who were about to leave were angered by the scene, but before they could do or say anything, Erza was already on the move.

"Requip: Purgatory armor." Erza used her magic and her armor changed to a dark slate color amor with a lighter gray trim. The shoulder guards are a light gray color with a large spike protruding off of them as well as of her armored arms and legs. She was also now carrying a giant black spiked mace, a few centimeters taller than her.

Wanting to give Cari time to react, Erza immediately attacked as her eyes turned red and she lifted the giant mace with her two hands, moving it as if it were a normal-sized weapon. The mace came down on Cari with incredible speed that almost seemed unbelievable when considering the weapon's proportions.

*Bam!*

The crash resounded and a bit of dust was blown from the impact, but it had only hit the ground as Cari was right beside the blade of the sword with her left foot on top of the mace.

"Not back in terms of power, but a little too slow to cash up to me. If that's your maximum speed, I would suggest begging for mercy now, I'm a benevolent woman and might let you go after having some fun, you're quite lucky, I have a thing for handsome young men." Cari was shameless and didn't seem to be taking this seriously at all despite having declared she would kill all of us some seconds ago.

"Gluttony Dragon's roar!" A beam of semi-translucent energy beam comes out of my mouth, as I cast the spell and let it out with the maximum output, I can currently unleash towards Cari.

Cari saw my attack and dodged it clean without much effort. "So, you want to play too, brat? Well, let mommy teach you children shouldn't meddle in adult's business." Cari seemed like she was about to come to me.

"Ice-make: Cannon!" Gray immediately cast his magic and an ice cannon appeared on his shoulder before he shot at Cari.

"Another one... Hum, you're rather cute, so I'll keep you for later, Icy boy." Cari said as she licked her lips and I could see Gray tremble as shills went down his spine.

"Don't you think you're being a little inappropriate for the current situation?" Gray asked.

"Of course not Icy boy, it's never a bad time hunt for cuties, you know what they say, gotta catch em all. So, there's no way I would miss the opp-" Cari was calmly responding to Gray as if she wasn't in the middle of a fight.

"Impulse magic: Instantaneous claw!" Angelica who was above Cari used this moment to attack her, aiming for the face with her claws at very high speed.

Cari barely avoided a direct hit only getting very shallow cuts on her right cheek. Before she moved her arm to punch Angelica with clear anger on her expression as it seems her easy-going aura vanished.

*Slash!*

Cari pulled her arm back as Erza almost cut it off with high speed as she's now in a different armor. Flight armor, its breastplate takes the form of a very revealing, armored cheetah-patterned top, with some bare armor protruding from the upper part of it, in correspondence to Erza's breasts, and some fur lining the lower edges, exposing her stomach and some cleavage, her waist is exposed and she's now wearing black shorts with a brown belt holding a green cloth attached to her back assets, with white high heels and black stockings at thigh level. She's now holding two one-handed swords while in an offensive stance looking at Cari.

I didn't waste this chance and just as Cari wanted to attack Erza I shot another 'Gluttony Dragon's roar' at her, which she dodged but wasn't given time to relax, as right after Gray shot at her with an Ice bazooka and hit.

Being Hit by Gray slightly destabilized Cari and it gave Erza a chance to attack, but Cari dodged her attack then headbutted Erza throw her off before turning around and jumping at Angelica, who dodged her hands with her body but was caught when Cari grabbed her tail mid-fall.

Erza who was coming in to stop Cari ended up with Angelica thrown at her face before Cari got closer and punched her three times on the stomach causing Erza to spit out blood. Things weren't looking good, but both I and Gray hesitated to attack because of how close to Erza and Angelica she was, it was highly likely to hit them.

This was worse in my case since If I hit Erza by accident, I'll weaken her, and our chances to win will plummet. Gray also, didn't want to hit the girls. It was already hard to keep with their speed, Cari is crazy fast and seems to be able to keep up with Erza even in her armor that specializes in speed, no it would be more accurate to say Cari is still a little faster.

"Fire Dragon's wing attack!" Natsu who had been knocked out for a while came at Cari with two bursts of flame one coming out of one of his arms, attacking her with them.

Just as I thought Cari would dodge the attack coming from behind her, she pulled Erza in and used her as a meatshield, then she was immediately hit from behind by Angelica with another drill kick. Despite her small body, she's full of strength, I didn't know exceed could do that with changing their form.

Cari let go of Erza who was hit by Natsu's flames, then turn to Angelica. I and Gray take the chance as Angelica uses her magic to distance herself from Cari, both me and him, attack with our magic, he uses ice lances, and I launch another 'Gluttony Dragon's roar' since the objective is weakening her. Our attacks straight her but she moves at an unforeseen speed and distances herself from everyone.

Cari stops moving, then.

*Cough!* *Cough!* *Cough!* *Cough!*

She starts coughing full mouths of blood then cleans the blood left around her lips with her forearm. At that moment everyone noticed it, well almost everyone. Cari is injured and it's most likely the result of her fight with Maltus, as well as the reason why she isn't just one-shooting us all, despite being mad and wanting us dead. At the beginning of the fight, she intimidated us, not to let us know the difference in our powers, but because she's probably desperate and wanted us to be fighting with low morale and caution so that she could have time to recover or maybe even take us down one by one. In my mind, it began making sense as I thought of how all of Cari's movements were light ones with no flashy attacks or anything crazy, and she even seems to be holding back a lot only increasing her speed when necessary to dodge attacks as well as the fact she's hardly taking any of the chances she has to counter-attack.

Coming to my own conclusion, I looked at Gray, and he smiled at me as it seems he has come to a similar conclusion. Time to go all out and pressure her together, as she might have a way to recover if we give her time to.

Erza immediately began running towards Cari full speed with eyes full of determination followed by Angelica coming behind flying. Natsu Who didn't seem fully recovered also followed along, and Lastly me and Gray, who have been maintaining a long-distance approach while launching our spells at her. Gray used ice lances again and I repeated my spell for the fourth time.

She dodged out of the way of our spells with a pained expression, but before she could do anything Erza was already on her with her swords slashing at Cari without a second warning. Once again engaged in close combat with Erza, Cari didn't look too good and was then hit by Angelica's attack on her back. She couldn't retaliate as Erza was hard-pressed on her.

By now Gray and I had gotten closer and he went in for an attack.

"Ice-Make: Scythe!" He cast his spell as an ice scythe was created and he used it to attack her as Erza got out of the way.

*Slash!*

The attack hit the already tired Cari but it still didn't seem to be enough to bring her down, despite her current state. Not waiting around Angelica and Erza also proceeded to attack and their attacks both hit.

Multiple notifications attacked me at the same time and I couldn't believe it's already been 15 minutes, even though if you asked me I would probably have said an hour has gone by, that's just what it feels like.

I was excited to have finally leveled up! And immediately went to look at my status, after all, the others have Cari encircled and I can't attack use my spells as I might weaken them.

There was a warm feeling in my body, it was aching with some relatively weak muscle pain, but nothing that would bother me. As I saw my status, I was slightly surprised by the changes present, it made me happy as my level got to 11 and a new magic type was added to my arsenal, and I don't know how to feel about it. I haven't been able to effectively use what I already have in my hands yet, adding something else only makes things harder, but I guess that's part of the fun of it; my life would get boring if everything was easy.

The improvement in my stats/attributes had its biggest boost, and my rank even increased to C. But I decided to not dwell on it for too long, as I was still amidst a battle.

The status screen disappeared and the fight came into vision. Erza, Gray, and Angelica had surrounded Cari not giving her much space to move while Natsu was having trouble standing with hard breathing, it seems he's exhausted and won't last too much longer if he has to fight. There was no opening through which I could attack since Cari wasn't being given any rest and they were all moving too much at high speed.

Whenever Cari tried to speed up to leave the encirclement either Erza or Angelica would stop her, since Gray couldn't fully keep up with that level of speed, the other two end up having to put some extra effort to avoid Cari exploiting that weakness.

All of them had hard breathing, sweating falling from their faces.

*Huff!* *Huff!* "I can't believe Maltus f*cked me up, to the point where ants like you can dominate me like this. But don't for a second think you've one! I WOULD RATHER DIE THAN FACE SUCH HUMILIATION!!" Despite being cornered, outmatched, and outnumbered. Not for a second did the look of arrogance and disgust for us left Cari's face... In actuality, it only seemed to get worse as the battle progressed.

Just what gives her that much confidence? Is it stupidity? Pride? Or does she actually believe she hasn't lost yet? I questioned as I felt Cari's ever-diminishing Ethernano signal get weaker by the second.

"Unlike you, we still have each other to rely on, even with our weakness and the power advantage you had over us, we managed to stay alive by giving it our all, together. Even though, the fact you took us easy and had heavy injuries helped." Erza said as she continued to attack Cari without stopping. The others seemed to agree as they smiled.

"Weak! All I heard you say was 'None of us could take you, so we had to bet on each other'. That's a weakling's mindset. Waiting for others to be there? How foolish. If I really lose to people with such ideals, I don't think I'll ever rest in peace. That's why I'll end this now, it's the first time I have to go to such extremes, be honored to be the first to witness me use this spell. Enchantment magic: Berserk!" Cari seemed conflicted before Erza's answer spiked something and she cast a spell.

An intense pillar of Ethernano burst from Cari and send all the three surrounding her flying away from her. The pressure coming from her was way beyond how it was when our fight with her started. The earth was trembling as she stood there with all her muscles bulging and the sanity left in her eyes gone. her high which was about 1,80m(5'9)had now reached 2m(6'5) with her already exposing clothes barely hanging in and holding on to her.

(This has to be some sicko's bad joke! Did she really just pull a 'This isn't even my final form' on us?!) I couldn't believe she just got stronger.... How?! That was what I wanted to ask, but I heard her and knew she just used a spell, that I also have access to now, because of enchantment magic.

Blood began coming out of Cari's facial orifices.

Angelica, Gray, and Erza were all looking at her with worry and anxiety written all over their faces.

While everyone was hesitating to make the next move, a flare of flames rushed towards Cari without care or worry in the world. His shout echoed as he charged straight in.

"Fire Dragon's Sword horn! We're also not losing to someone like you!" Natsu's entire body was engulfed in flames and like some sort of missile, he went in to headbutt Cari at a high speed.

Like a shooting star, Natsu quickly flow towards Cari, and the moment he got close enough.

*Bam!*

Cari instantly hit Natsu on his back with her right hand, like a hammer slamming him into the ground and completely dispelling his attack.

"Arrrggghh!" Screams of pain escaped from Natsu's mouth as he hit the ground and bounce back up due to the sheer force behind the attack that hit him.

As soon as Natsu was in the air, Cari came in for another punch, this time on his stomach.

*Bam!* *Crack!* *Boom!*

The moment the punch connect a strong impact could be felt as we all heard the sound of Natsu's bones cracking, he was sent flying passing right by me at extremely high speed to the point I barely saw a blur of him pass by me. Then the sound of his collision with the various trees standing behind me was very audible, making me question if he's fine or rather alive.

Looking at the situation I had a risky plan with a high chance of failure, but it was still better than just waiting to see how things end.

I would like to warn the others but seeing how Cari is now, she might just finish me off the moment I open my mouth, so I just turn around and ran towards Natsu.

I know it's not the best, but I want to forcibly awaken some of that guy's power, using the blue lava as a medium since it should still be counted under the fire element and what would work best from what I have. Considering how early on in the story it is, I don't think any other of my magics would work before killing him, well except for enchantment magic which will also come to play in this.

If I manage to at least help him get into dragon force mode, it should be enough if I then boost him up with enchantment magic, I could have tried to boost the others with enchantment magic, but I don't know how much mp it would take, so I was hesitant to do so. Now, I don't have much of an option.

I could hear the sounds of the battle behind me as I reached the rugged-up pink-haired dragon slayer.

"Huk!" A groan of pain left his mouth, somehow he was still alive and conscious. I wondered if this was just him being unbelievably sturdy as both a demon and a dragon slayer or if this was just plot armor kicking in. Not that I cared since him being awake makes it easier for me.

(Time for me to try this.) I think to myself as I position my hand above Natsu's mouth and start making some blue lava on my palm before I turn it to pour it in.

AN: I just wanted to tell you I've updated a power scale chapter in the auxiliary chapters, together with a status chapter.

Now, before anyone goes off to say that the main character is weak or isn't getting enough protagonism or whatever. I know, I'm writing it. It's not going to be like this for much longer, but I'm not just doing it, some of the stuff that has already happened and that will still happen later, is gonna play a hand in an original arc I'm planning for the 7 years blank or 7 blank years. Well, I actually have two ideas for that, regardless, I'm planning an original arc that will later come up.

On, a side note, I might regret making Blue lava a thing... It has properties that are quite annoying to deal with... Well, whatever. The next chapter will be the last chapter involving this mission and we will then go back to the fairy tail cannon and no this story is not going to go exactly like in the cannon nor will it try to protect the cannon.
