Combat Class.

"Alright class, now I need each person to grab any weapon of their choice." Everyone grabbed the weapon they saw fit from the rack of weapons the teacher brought out with her. I browsed through the rack of weapons varying from Short swords to Twin swords, Large broad swords, Katana, Daggers, Gauntlets, Axes, Lances, Whips. Aurora had the sharp end of her katana on the ground, while,

Jasmine was holding her large broad sword.

"Everyone's attention please." Everyone stopped what and looked at the teacher. "I want everyone to follow two examples before we continue, this is the safest way to grip your weapon unlike your lots" she said while showing us the grip. Seeing that we were done with correcting our grip she continued.

"Now, you and your partner need to stand opposite to each other, and I want you to practice swinging your weapons to adjust to its weight, and keep in mind Your battle swords made out of Aether are heavier than this regular swords, so if can't lift up these things, ya better choose some different weapon for the exams." Everyone stood ten feet from each other, and started practicing swinging their swords.

Some people stumbled, some others dropped their weapons, while few swung their swords with no problem. Jasmine yellow eyes flashed as she swung her sword, making her sword let out some sparks as she swung it.

"Jasmine no magic yet" The teacher said impressed. Jasmine rolled her eyes and the sparks disappeared as she showed her swinging. Aurora just stood where she was looking at everything and everyone in awe.

"Now I want all you to spar against each other, not enough to kill each other, but just enough to show each other what level of skill you have." Aurora and Jasmine nodded at each other as they both held their weapons looking eye to eye with one another. Jasmine was the first to make a move, she swung her sword over her head, leaving her whole body open for Aurora. Aurora used holy of her sword to stab Jasmine in the ribs knocking the wind out of her and making Jasmine drop her sword.

"Not bad Aurora." Jasmine groaned, holding her ribs. Aurora held a hand out and Jasmine took it, using her as support, Jasmine grabbed her sword off the ground and got into stance again only this time her element was infused with her sword.

'And here I thought I would have to wait a bit before showing off my elements'

Having no choice, she infused her fire with her katana making it glow bright blue.

This time, Jasmine went for a side swing which Aurora easily blocked. This left Aurora's side exposed so Jasmine aimed for her side Aurora quickly swung her sword on instinct and hit Jasmine's sword just in time. The contact sent vibrations and sparks up the swords into their arms.

They continued their spar and they both ended up with few cut and bruises. Jasmine ran at full speed instantaneously with a full head swing in hope to end the spar once and for all but Aurora had other plans. She knocked the sword out of Jasmine's faster than she ran and was about to slash Jasmine when a voice cut into the fight.

"You guys really need to learn how to get your skills sharpened." A voice cut into the fight, causing both girls to stop what they were doing and looked at the person who spoke.

Ashley stood in front of a crowd, wearing white gloves that matched her shirt, so she didn't have to touch the sword.

Ashley, Jasmine roommate was a top ranked student at the academy with rank no.3. She was in the same year as Jasmine but never chooses to go to class. She is known to be one of few who could control four elements.

She smiled and spoke once again.

"You heard me, get out of the way so real people can fight." Ashley said. Aurora let out a huff and retracted her sword moving out of the way having nothing to do with the girl anyway. Ashley gave a nod at her direction as she stared at Jasmine, who was not moving. What are you, deaf?" Move out of the way unless you want to fight!" Ashley yelled.

Jasmine simply stayed put, her eye was glossed over like she wasn't paying attention to reality. Ashley furrowed her eyebrows as she swung her at Jasmine. Like returning back to reality Jasmine screamed as she saw the sword headed for her face.

She closed her eye waiting for an impact, but it never came. When she opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was the sword encased in ice.

Aurora caught the sword with her hand just inches away from Jasmine's face and froze the sword. Looking at Ashley with dead and menacing eyes, she took her own sword out and swung over her head.

Ashley let out a high pitched scream while closing her eyes and covering her head to block the impact making most students cover their ears.

When she opened her eyes after receiving no impact she saw the sword impaled into the ground. She shuffled away like the sword was on fire.

She looked at Aurora as she was walking away. Aurora was clearly shaking, but from Anger or Excitement? Neither of them knew.

"Leave her alone Ashley, or I won't hesitate to end you" Aurora said, her voice a bit distorted. Ashley fiercely nodded her head and Aurora let out a sigh before walking to Jasmine side.

She patted Jasmine's shoulder as they both headed to the school. Still shaking, Jasmine took a seat on the bench trying to calm. Her head was aching and her ribs were hurting from their spar earlier on.

"What happened back there, why did you save me?" Jasmine said.

"No one hurts those who I love or who are my friends" I said. Jasmine nodded as tears welled up in her eyes.

"So what's this ranks of sort I keep hearing?" I ask her in a curious tone.

"The ranking system in the academy is to find out those who are the strongest in the academy. An individual rank is determined by the amount of element one can control and its affinity. You can move up a rank by challenging the person holding the rank to duel. Jacob the boy you fought before is currently ranked number 2 and since your fight wasn't official he didn't lose his rank otherwise you would be the second ranked best student in the academy" she said excitedly.

'I guess word really move fast in these academy'

"Hey it's lunch now, let's get a bite to eat." Jasmine said as her stomach rumbled. The two girls laughed and got up, heading over to the cafeteria to eat.

During lunch the voice of the headmistress voice was heard through the speakers as she made an announcement.

"Students of the academy as you all know the annual Tournament for Academies in the realm is coming up and because we need to choose our representatives we always hold our own qualifying tournament to select our representatives. So in two weeks our qualifying tournament will take so take these two weeks to prepare yourselves.
