Chapter 08 - The Egg

When we arrived at Dragonstone, we disembarked from the ship. Sir Criston helped me off the boat. During the rest of the journey, I had been braiding Aegon's hair, his wavy locks adorned with small scattered braids.

-"My sea dragon."- said Corlys, who was waiting for us on the dock. I ran to where my grandfather was and enveloped him in a hug. He kissed my forehead and then lifted me onto his shoulders.

-"You two come as well."- Corlys said, calling my two brothers, who were next to my mother; but then ran to our grandfather and hugged him.

-"My mother?"- my father asked as he looked at my grandfather.

-"There was a problem with the eggs."- my grandfather replied. My mother looked at me.

-"A problem, Corlys?"- Viserys asked as he approached.

-"Laena and Daemon arrived recently with Rhaena and Baela. We were waiting for you to go see the clutch, but then one of the caretakers informed us that 'The Cannibal' had been roaming the area. He entered the place and ate almost all the eggs."-

-"Almost all?!"- Alicent asked.

-"Only one is left."- Rhaenys appeared, carrying something in her hands. -"But it's not from Meleys. We don't know which dragon it belongs to, and the caretakers don't recognize it either. It's this one."- She showed the blue egg.

My grandfather set me down, and we all remained silent. Aemond sighed, and Alicent drew him close, hugging him.

-"Alexandrya, you're older than your cousins; so it's yours."- my grandmother said as she knelt and extended the egg to me.

I walked over to where my grandmother was and took the egg in my hands. The egg had a strange shape, but there was no doubt it was a dragon egg. It had all the characteristics of one.

-"Thank you."- I replied and hugged my grandmother. Then I turned and walked to where Aemond was.

-"Take it, I can have one later."- I said, smiling at him, and he looked at me with a sad smile.

-"No, Alexandrya, that is your egg; It belongs to you."- he said.

Alicent smiled and stroked Aemond's hair. Aegon was silent; everyone was watching the situation.

-"But you want a dragon more than I do, Accept it."- I insisted, extending the egg to him again.

-"Alexandrya, no. We'll see what we can do for Aemond later."- Viserys said as he approached me and caressed my cheek. -"This will be your dragon."-

I sighed, there was nothing to be done. I couldn't force him to accept the egg. I was angry with that dragon that had eaten the other eggs—not only mine but everyone else's.

-"The Cannibal returned to the nesting cave."- I heard Rhaenys tell Corlys. -"We managed to get out in time."-

We began walking towards the fortress of Dragonstone. Once inside, I stopped; my uncles and I had stayed behind the adults.

-"You seem upset, my Lexy."- said Aegon.

-"I think it's unfair that the dragon ate the other eggs."- I said, sighing heavily.

-"That's how the Cannibal is. It's lucky he didn't kill anyone this time."- Aemond added.

-"Aemond, can you do me a favor?"- I asked.

-"I'll do it, What's up my princess?"- said Aegon.

-"Shut up, she asked me."- Aemond responded.

-"Well, either of you, can you watch my egg?"- I asked.

-"Why?"- Aemond inquired.

-"Sure, give it to me."- Aegon said, extending his hand.

-"I need to go to the bathroom. And I don't want to drop it. Plus, I also have to go and give someone a piece of my mind, but I won't be long."- I said with a smile as Aegon carefully held the egg.

-"Who are you going to talk to?"- Aemond asked.

-"I really have to go; it's urgent."- I said, then turned away. I heard Aemond calling me, but I started running, sneaking through the castle. I knew where the dragons nested. I knew how to confront a dragon; I had heard Aegon talk about how it was done.

Inside Dragonstone Fortress

-"Where's my favorite niece?"- Daemon asked, looking at Rhaenyra.

-"She was with Aemond and Aegon. Do you know where she is?"- Rhaenyra asked, looking at her younger brothers.

-"She asked us to watch her egg. She said she was going to the bathroom and to talk to someone."- Aegon spoke.

-"Nyra, the bathroom in Dragonstone is inside the fortress. Alexandrya knows the place..."- Laenor said, looking at Rhaenyra.

-"What's happening?"- Viserys asked, approaching with Alicent.

-"The girl, Alexandrya, is missing."- Rhaenyra responded.

-"We have to think like her if we're going to find her."- said Laenor. -"What would Alexandrya do?"-

-"She was upset because the Cannibal ate the eggs."- Aemond spoke.

-"Shit."- Aegon muttered under his breath.

-"Aegon, what's going on?"- Alicent asked, looking at her eldest son.

-"There's a slight chance that I might have been teasing my dragon-less brother about how to claim a dragon."- Aegon began.

-"And? What else?"- Daemon looked at him with crossed arms.

-"Alexandrya might have taken 'claiming' literally, Nyra."- Laenor spoke, and Rhaenyra brought both her hands to her mouth.

-"My Alexandrya."- the heir said. -"We need to go find her, now!"- she said, trying to leave, clearly distressed.

-"You stay here with Laena. Both of you are pregnant. It's too dangerous for you to go searching in that state."- Daemon said.

-"She's my daughter, my only daughter. I must find her."- Rhaenyra responded, and without caring, she began walking towards the exit. Daemon quickly started running after her, along with Laenor.

Aemond and Aegon tried to run after them, but Sir Criston held both their arms, preventing them from leaving.

-"You've done enough today."- Alicent looked at her sons and directed her gaze to Aegon. -"And you will listen to me when we get home."- she said, grasping her eldest son's face roughly. -"Lexy better not be harmed."-

Rhaenys and Corlys also went to search. Alicent stayed inside with her two sons and Laena, along with her daughters; who were crying after hearing that the Cannibal might have eaten Alexandrya.

Aegon stood rigidly, his face devoid of emotion, but a tear slid down his cheek as he still held the egg his niece had entrusted to him.

Aemond continued trying to free himself from Sir Criston's grip to go find Alexandrya, but the knight tightened his hold, applying more force to keep the Targaryen from breaking free.

Viserys stood beside his two younger grandchildren, along with guards holding the children back; as they too wanted to help search for their sister.
