To the Stars

"Wait a minute! Oh Mighty and Sexy Ella‌, could you please grant me the honor of executing this elder from my race, who was so foolish as to offend the formidable Impaler of Gods?" Jacob begged, knowing that this was his last resort against the severe diarrhea.

The Empress looked at the small white dragon, slightly taken aback by his request but with a glint of curiosity in her eyes.

"Fine. It does not matter to me who ends up killing him in the end." The beautiful human woman immediately agreed, eager to see if the baby dragon could pull it off.

The silver dragon was an Elder Dragon. In normal occurrences, a baby dragon would never be able to kill him, but this time was different. The dragon was severely weakened, missing many scales and with a vast hole in his belly.

Even if the baby dragon was unable to kill him, the silver dragon would eventually die from his wounds. Regarding the experience points, the Empress did not need them. Killing an elder dragon would only provide her with a small number of experience points.

She was more interested in how a baby dragon could kill an elder from his own race, one who was most likely very close to him. After all, the presence of a baby dragon accompanied by an elder dragon implied that the elder dragon was either his family or his protector.

When Jacob heard the Empress's response, he was surprised at first, but then a wave of relief washed over him. The Old Dragon had been a good dragon to him, but he had only met him and the Empress would kill him, even if he did not meddle into the fight.

He did not have time to develop any feelings for him. And to begin with, he was a simple human reborn as a dragon. He still felt awkward to be called a dragon, and even more to be around one.

The white dragon had to run for several hundred meters to get closer to the scene of the fight. He had to avoid stepping on the purple spirits's corpses which lay everywhere in the battlefield, lest he incur the Empress's wrath.

Finally, he found himself in front of the crater, where a massive dragon with sharp scales laid in the ground, although half of his scales were missing or colored red. As he stepped into the crater, his scaled legs suddenly froze as he met the Old Dragon's gaze.

The only emotions Jacob saw in his eyes were warmth and sadness. A strange and deep feeling awoke in his body, one he had never felt before in his new life.

At this moment, memories of the bandit camp overwhelmed his senses. The decimated corpses, the days he had spent without rest to build a proper grave for them. The bodies of Oliva's little sister and her mother, and how it all culminated in his own death.

A death which gave him the chance to be reborn as a dragon, with an annoying System that assigned him arduous tasks with a severe punishment. And now, in his new life, nothing has changed. An innocent and good elder was going to die, and he was going to die by his own hand.

Looking into the eyes of the Old Dragon, Jacob wondered when he had become so insensible as to repay kindness with death. But he told himself over and over that the end result would be the same, and that he would do it for his quests.

The white dragon stepped firmly into the crater and slowly made his way toward the Old Dragon, not breaking eye contact for a single second. Some tears were dripping from his eyes and falling to the ground, a ground which had already seen far too much blood.

When he approached the massive body of the silver dragon, the white dragon knelt down, getting his white scales stained by blood. But Jacob did not care about his shimmering white scales, ignoring the pool of blood which was forming beneath him.

"L-little O-n-On-e, please... I-I will take off the-the scales which p-protect my-my heart. Pl-please."

When the white dragon heard his plea, he felt a knot in his throat and more tears welling up in his eyes. Nonetheless, Jacob complied with his plea, and after getting up, he decisively struck with his right claw toward the Old Dragon's chest.

"...Did-did you know, Little O-One? There is a legend abo-ut the afterlife of a dra-dragon."

The white dragon closed his eyes as he felt his claws ripping through flesh and entering deeper into the silver's chest.

"It is sa-sa-said that when drag-dragons die, they become stars, which will-will shine and guide the path-path of our ra-race. Li-little One, tell-tell me, will you lo-look at the night sky?"

Everything fell silent as his voice faded.

Jacob was certain he had just received a lot of level ups from the countless System's messages, as well as the newfound strength he was radiating from his body, but all he could think about was Old Dragon's unfortunate and painful death.

The silver dragon's body laid motionless on the ground. His eyes were wide open, but there was no sign of life in them. Even the loud sound of his breath had vanished. His scales had lost their characteristic sharp gleam, capable of breaking even the air.

The small dragon averted his gaze, briefly returning it to the Impaler of Gods, who was the witness and the reason he had to execute an innocent person. She stood in the sky, watching everything he did, as if she was waiting for his champion to kneel.

He felt extreme sadness and rage roaring inside of him. He was not that familiar with the elder dragon. After all, he only had known him for a day, but he was sick of killing innocent people.

First, Olivia's mother and her little sister's death, and now a dragon who only approached him to take him home. He knelt in the pool of blood, using his two hind legs, his gaze fixed on the massive dragon's corpse, his head straight up toward the sky.

"Here lies the innocents, those who had spent their last hours of life in hell. Rest in Peace, Old Dragon."
