Recovering

Treasca was floating in a river. She sat up treading water looking around. In every direction she looked was nothing but inky black water. She laid back kicking her feet slowly. This was nice. The water felt so good. Why would she ever want to leave it. She could feel herself sinking in.

"Treasca! Treasca! Can you hear me?" Loud, loud why was the voice so loud. She tried to ignore it. White light shot across the pitch black sky. She tried to shut out the light it hurt! A jolt went through her, and everything dissolved back into nothing. She opened her actual eyes squinting up at the too bright sunlight. Brenton's face came into focus above her.

"You." She said weakly not particularly happy.

"Me." He said a smirk on his face. She was startled to see tears streaming down his face. She reached out touching is wet cheek surprised.

"What happened?" She croaked her throat hurt a lot.

"You decided to go marching into a Harpy nest. I would still love to know what posed you to do that. I don't think it was accidental." Brenton said still hovering above her.

"Neal told me that is were the fae lived." Treasca said after a moment the memory coming back.

"Neal? Who is Neal?" Brenton asked looking puzzled. Treasca did her best to describe him.

"He was so nice. I thought he was helping me." Treasca said sadly. Brenton nodded stroking her cheek.

Brenton left Treasca to rest once he knew she wouldn't succumb to her injuries. Delyn approached him holding a tray of refreshments. Brenton took a glass of brandy staring into its soft amber liquid.

"I cannot let the slight Thalon has done slide." Brenton said calmly not looking at Delyn.

"I know master." Delyn replied looking very sad. His brother Taylon would die with his master.

"If I don't kill Thalon he will just try something else. He has long been a thorn in my side, but really I never thought he would go this far." Brenton sighed sinking into his desk chair.

"Did you ever find the basin?" Brenton asked leaning back eyes closed.

"No master it was no where in the forest." Delyn replied heart heavy.

"Thalon must have taken it once he heard me coming. I regret losing my temper." Brenton said rubbing his eyes.

"We need to find out who this Neal is, and why he was trying to kill Treasca." Brenton said explaining what he had learned. Delyn looked puzzled.

"I thought nymphs were gentle creatures." Delyn said wearily.

"Somehow I don't think that was a nymph." Brenton said looking fierce again.
