Brenton had flown off once he was sure Treasca would be okay. He wanted the ordeal with Thalon over. He wished he could show mercy to Delyn's brother, but no matter what he did if Thalon died so would Taylon. It was the blessing and the curse of being tied to a Dragon. You could live with them for hundreds of years, but if slain then all fell with him. The castle that Thalon had lived in was far to the North so if Brenton where to fly there it would be nearly a weeks journey. The Diviners Basin being missing had also made haste important. If Thalon had it, and that seemed very likely he could ambush Brenton. If he didn't have it he would not be able to track Brenton unless he let his guard down. Brenton took chalk from his pocket as Delyn had before drawing the door in the same exact place. When he stepped through however he was in nothing but a burning husk of what had once been Thalon's home.

Brenton searched the burning embers for any sign of life, but nothing stirred for miles around. He changed shape flying high to see just how far the destruction went. He felt the stirrings of an emotion he hadn't felt in millennia flood through his veins chilling him, fear. Every tree, city, and village within hundreds of miles was nothing, but ash. He tried to sense any signs of life. There where but few still there, and even those small flickers of life where nearly gone. He rushed towards the nearest one. It was a small boy no more than seven. He was badly burned, and his breathing was a frantic pant. Brenton laid a hand on him, but he was just not that great at healing. Then it dawned on him Treasca was! He scooped the boy up rushing back the way he had come.
