Chapter 11

Kaido resumed drinking his sake after Yasaka and Serafall left his residence. He did not put too much thought about this little talk, treating it is a minor nuisance.

"Lord father, if the devils did not hand over the perpetrators, would you really go to war with them?" Asked Yamato, feeling a little worried.

She doesn't want the North to go war …many will die, and even though she is confident in her heart that they will win, she is also sure that there would be so much casualties.

It's not something she wants to see.

"No," Kaido snorted, "There's nothing to gain from going to war with the devils. Fuyuki wasn't even that important for us and there are no Youkais who died from the fire, only humans. In fact, I didn't even think anything of that incident until that devil came to see me."

Kaido was born and bred for war. But that doesn't mean he likes senseless wars. There is no point in going to war where he will gain nothing but death of his troops.

"Then …why?"

"Though they have declined, the devils were still part of the Biblical Faction, the undisputed strongest faction in the world for centuries back in the past. They must have a lot of good stuff, if we can get some of them in exchange for us not doing a thing, which I already planned to, then isn't that good?"

Tens of Thousands of years ago, the Biblical Faction completely dominated the world with their absolute might. There was no three factions then, only one Biblical Faction, and their strength was at their peak.

The Biblical God and Lucifer back then owned the first and second spot amongst the top ten. Pushing the Hindu Trimurti down to third place.

Yes, Lucifer was that strong.

Kaido always couldn't help but laugh aloud whenever they mentioned that the new Lucifer is stronger than the original one.

The New Lucifer was a joke compared to the original!

Though, he guessed that it was probably just a propaganda by the New Devils to gain support to fight the Old Devils in the Devil Civil War.

Just to get some idea on how strong Lucifer was, he sacrificed some of his powers and gifted them to his 72 "children", the original 72 Demons of the Underworld, each possessing the strength of a Deity-class being, and Lucifer still did not fall from rank two.

If Lucifer did not rebel, the Biblical Faction would've still dominated the world to this day.

With such history, the devils should have a lot of good things in their treasury.

If Kaido can have some of those in exchange for a war he never really intend to go to, then why not right?

"I see. Indeed, if they compensate us for some artifacts then it would greatly strengthen our military. But father, what if they still refuse to compensate?"

Kaido poured himself another cup of sake and drank it all in one go, before replying, "They are not that stupid, but if they are, then I guess I can give them a little demonstration. I heard that the queen of Leviathan managed to beat Zeus. I want to try and exchange a few rounds with him."

"That Olympian God?" Yamato expressed her shock.

"There's nothing to be surprised about, despite being a chief god Zeus is not that strong. Though he beats his brothers at pure raw power, that's all he has. Poseidon could beat him, and there's Hades who is in the top ten."

Zeus like to throw his weight around, indulging himself on debauchery and depravity unbefitting of a god's majesty.

Most of his power comes from his artifact "the Lightning Bolt", and he wasn't that strong himself. Unlike Poseidon and Hades who trained to use their powers.

It was actually because of those two why Olympians are still surviving to this day. Zeus was not a good leader, that's why they lost Olympus and were forced to flee to North America and established a 'new' Olympus there.

From what he heard, the Olympians have gotten so weak they decided to mate with mortals and sired a bunch of demigods just to keep their faction afloat.

Though, it's not like it's a first for them to mate with mortals. But they just did it more frequently now.

Not to mention, left with the lack of military strength due to the loss of minor and lesser gods in their pantheon, the Olympians settled for using human's technology to strengthen themselves.

It was actually shameful.

Nukes and intercontinental ballistic missiles might be effective for lower and middle class beings, but High class beings and above have already transcended to be something "more". They can no longer be hurt by 'mundane' weapons.

It's like, no matter how powerful a character in Anime was, they still can't hurt you who was watching it, because you're not on the same dimension at all.

"…Well, I best be off lord father. I still have my training session with Susanoo-sama."

Kaido just waved his hand, as he continued to drink his sake, as Yamato gave him a short nod before leaving.

For a time, only the sound Kaido drinking can be heard.

"He's definitely serious about this, Sirzechs. If we don't hand over those heirs, we would have war coming our way!"

Serafall, now wearing a formal attire—a green dress shirt with long black skirt—was tapping the table as she glared at the red haired devil king.

"I don't know about you, but I don't want to expose my sister to the horrors of a war, ever!" Serafall couldn't help but grit her teeth in anger.

"I tried convincing the council, but even they wouldn't budge." Sirzechs was massaging his forehead, feeling a whole lot of headache coming his way, "...'don't bow down to those savages!', they said. 'If they're looking for war, then war is what they get', they said. Those fools just can't understand the situation at all!"

"Well, just in case, I have strengthen the defenses in our borders." Added Falbium, "I don't want us to be caught unprepared, it's Kaido we're talking about."

"We still have three months to convince them," Sirzechs sighed as he leaned back on his chair. "Damn it. Those old fools."

"It's Kaido we're talking about," said Ajuka, narrowing his eyes at Sirzechs.

"Huh, oh yeah. I know." Sirzechs gave his friend a confused look.

"It's Kaido we're talking about," Ajuka repeated.

"I know, what's your—"

"It's 'Kaido' we're talking about," Ajuka emphasized, "Do you really think that he won't just suddenly grow bored of waiting and directly launch an attack at, let's say, tomorrow morning?"

"…"

"…"

"…"

"Sigh," Serafall let out an exhausted sigh, "I'll uh, I'll go and recall my peerage. I think they have been on their own little adventures long enough."

"You do that." Falbium nodded, "We need deterrence to make sure Kaido keeps to his words."

"It's Kaido we're talking about." Ajuka repeated.

"Enough with those words!" Falbium glared at him, "stop saying that sentence as if it explains everything!"

"What? It's true! It's Kaido. That …thing is insane! What makes you think he won't completely disregard safety and just charge right through!?" Ajuka retorted.

"Urgh…I hate it when you make so much sense." Falbium slammed his head down on the table.

"Guys, this is serious." Serafall was tapping her finger on the table, her face marred with annoyance, "This isn't the time to joke around."

"Hah!" Sirzechs laughed, pointing at SerafallC "You really know that the situation is dire when Serafall of all people gets serious!"

"Sirzechs Lucifer, now's not the time." There was no trace of the bubbly, childlike look on Serafall's face. Right now, her expression was cold and calculating, void of any emotions.

Even Ajuka and Falbium couldn't help but sit up straight seeing that oh so familiar look that brings them nightmare.

They have almost forgotten.

The childish persona was something Serafall put on after the Civil War to cope with all the trauma and tragedies she had experienced in that war.

They have gotten so used to it that they have almost forgotten how Serafall used to be. Emotionless. Cold. Calculating. And brutally efficient, like a machine.

Back in the day, just seeing her from afar is enough to terrify any lesser beings.

She was so feared that she earned herself a title given to her by both the Old and New Devil Faction.

The Winter Scourge.
