Douluo Dalu: Martial Path

In the world of Douluo Dalu, being a Soul Master is an occupation. A title above normal mortals. Yet, despite the power and numerous other abilities one would gain as they thread the path of a Spirit Master, they were no different from a normal mortal. They would still die to natural causes and a spirit master didn't have a longer lifespan than a mortal, except when they reach the limits of a spirit master but they could only live by twice or thrice the lifespan of a mortal still. Just what was good being a spirit master? Especially if one can easily kill them by the hands of either technology or natural causes? They weren't much different from a mortal. That was what Feng Qin had come to a conclusion as he turned twelve, six years after awakening an unknown trash Martial Spirit. But, on a fateful day, one single lucky moment as he had just survive from a life and death situation, changed his life forever. ... AN: Hey it's yo boi, FroztDouluo back with another Douluo Dalu fanfic! And this time, it's a concept that I've taken inspirations from Martial World(just read the story since it's a prequel to True Martial World, my favorite story and one I'm hoping to make a fanfic of someday), True Martial World, Tales of Demons and Gods, God of Slaughter, etc. I really hope I can make this story great and won't eventually turn me off. Cause my last few stories were great in plotlines at the start but it had eventually gone downhill due to several reasons.(Mainly laziness, writer's block, and school.) So, I'm going to clarify a few things and reveal a couple spoilers. One, there will be some oc other than the mc in this story. Most of them would come from other stories that I had previously mentioned or you guys can help me create some of them through comments. Two, I prioritize pa-treon more than here so if you notice me being late to update than it must mean I was either busy writing more chapters in pa-treon or I'm resting from the exhaustion of it. Three, the update schedule is 2-3 chapters a week with at least 1k words. Chapters are uploaded in Wednesday and Friday/Saturday(UTC +8, Philippine time). Four, I will try to reply to most of the comments I see but don't count much, cause I don't really reply very well because I just don't know what to write back. I just hope it'll get to a hundred, or two, chapters before I drop it, or not? It depends on life really. And positive comments and reviews, I don't really care much of power stones(tho, that doesn't mean you can't...) but positive feedback on my work really inspires me more to write. Want to check out my pa-treon and be ahead of your fellow WN kin? Well here's the link: pa–treon.com/FroztDouluo *Just get rid of the dash.

Chapter 49: 2nd Visit?

Feng Qin dreamt of a familiar vast dark space, where it was filled with numerous balls of white light of varying sizes.

His turning point of his journey into becoming a great spirit master and martial artist in the Douluo Continent.

The pocket dimension of the Myriad Soul Gem, the place where thousands of exalted experts' remnant souls rested. It was completely silent and cold in this world of souls, yet there was a strange sense of peace that pervaded the place.

Feng Qin walked among the balls of light, gently waving around his hand as he went. Each ball of light represented the soul of an expert who had left their mark on the martial arts world before fighting the previous owner of the Myriad Soul Gem. Some were small, barely the size of a marble, while others were large and radiant, shining brighter than the sun.

He felt a sense of awe and reverence as he moved among the souls, feeling their presence and power. It was a humbling experience, knowing that these souls had once been mighty cultivators that had mastered all kinds of fields in an effort to master the powers of the universe. But now they were all equal in death, their souls resting filled with regret and hatred in this place of eternal imprisonment.

A surge of joy and excitement filled his heart, as this was another opportunity of gaining more power. Although he couldn't understand how that was possible but he would think about that later on.

If he could find the perfect soul for him to devour, then his potential and power would exponentially grow more by leaps and bounds!

'But to be safe, I should pick the one that's just a bit bigger than the Sword Immortal's remnant soul. As of right now, I have no need of new cultivation methods and martial skills as the ones I have right now are still useful and I have barely comprehended all their secrets.'

'But...' He looked around at the vast amounts of souls, illuminating the vast dark space as if they were stars. He purse his lips, hesitation on his face. 'there's just too many of them! Which ones should I choose?'

Should he just pray to the heavens and hoped that his luck would let him grab a ownerlesss and useful soul at the first try?

He absentmindedly walked around the dark space, deep in thought.

"Hmm..."

Subconsciously, Feng Qin's gaze then moved towards the center of all the remnant souls—the previous owner of the Myriad Soul Gem. It had the size of a soccer ball and unlike the other souls in this dimension, this one was glowing a bright blue whilst giving off a permafrost aura with a golden ring circling around it.

Although that soul ball wasn't as big as some of the others around it, it had a sort of majestic aura around it that would make any floating ball of white light that would get close to shiver incredibly and immediately retreat by fifty meters.

"T-This is...!"

Feng Qin looked at it with awe and respect, his heart thumping repeatedly with curiosity and wonder. If he recalled correctly... this was the remnant soul of the woman he saw when the Myriad Soul Gem first awakened.

Suddenly, an image of a beautiful woman flashed in his mind. She was the definition of a beautiful woman, with her snow-white skin, curved eyebrows and small kissable red lips. With a slender waist, twin peaks and curvy figure, she stood proudly on a tall cliff without an end whilst staring out into the ever snowing world.

'Who...are you?' Feng Qin inwardly said as her beautiful image went by his mind. He shook his head and let out a small breath of pity, such a beautiful woman having died in a great battle for the Myriad Soul Gem.

"...I thought you were a lot bigger when I first came in here," Feng Qin muttered, staring at the ball of ice blue light.

"..." Absolute silence was all he got, he bitterly smiled.

He never knew her name, perhaps he did and had mentioned it unknowingly by passing in his head, but he could never tell. It would always feel as if her name was at the tip of his tongue but he could never realize it.

As if a strange curse had been put on him that forbade him from ever uttering her name, and a divine punishment would descend on him if he managed to.

'...Oh well, best not to think about that for now. I need to find a suitable soul to devour,' He shook his head and he walked past the previous owner's soul. 'and forget about getting any of the souls in the center. Unlike the Sword Immortal's remnant soul, these around the center would certainly contain some consciousness or remnant will of their previous life.'

Even if they were just remnants and are probably only at 1% of their prowess back when they were alive, that was not something he could take on. He wasn't that confident, arrogant and stupid to go after a big fish.

They were legendary experts from a different world that could easily kill any of this world's Titled Douluos with a wave of their palm. They were like true Gods in this world, entities that can just blow him out of existence just by breathing.

Ten minutes later.

"Oh come on!!" Feng Qin yelled as he threw his arms up, annoyance set on his face.

He couldn't believe this bullshit! He can't absorb any of them!

It was certain, this was a dream, or a vision of some kind if he can't touch any of these souls.

It was obvious now. He was sure that he had merely fallen unconscious after overdrafting his spirit power and his body. It was inevitable, especially feeling all that pain coursing throughout his body in his final moments of fighting Cain.

Just what was going on? Was this some kind of mechanism of the Myriad Soul Gem that only activates when he undergoes a life and death situation or something?

But what was the point of this?

Unbeknownst to Feng Qin, his body, his soul consciousness, was gradually becoming solid, splendid and more lifelike. Compared to when he first appeared in this dimension, looking dim and transparent resembling more of a ghost than human.

The Myriad Soul Gem main function was and would always be absolute control over souls, and those who wields it would have the chance to raise the quality of their soul and state of existence.

It took a while for him to notice this however, continuing to walk around in frustration for about another ten minutes before decidedly sitting down to meditate and calm his nerves.

'I can't absorb any of them nor can I escape out of this place out of my own volition. I can't panic right now. There must be some reason for why I arrived here...' He inhaled a small breath in and started circulating the Heavenly Vast Universe Art.

But there wasn't any soul power here so the cultivation method did nothing to increase his spirit power, he didn't expect anything obviously. He merely did it out of habit.

'Hmm? This is...?!'

Suddenly, he felt some kind energy converging into him like a whirlpool. This type of energy was invisible and intangible, yet it felt incredibly power.

Feng Qin then realized what was going on. The fundamental part of any cultivation method, was absorbing the energy from one's surrounding. And what was abundant around him right now? Spiritual power!

"I can't believe this. Although I can't absorb another expert's soul yet, increasing my spiritual power is still a large boon no less!" He muttered with a pleased smile on his face, but then he let out a bitter sigh. "Sadly, I don't have a spiritual-type cultivation method. Then my progress on spiritual power would be far above than what I could do right now. At the very least, I could achieve Spiritual Sea Realm."

"Oh well, I'll just hope for the best next time I can absorb another soul that they'll have a suitable spiritual-type cultivation method."

As he cultivated in the silent dark space, his long black hair with red tips draping over his shoulders began to rise like burning flames while his red eyes, hidden behind eyelids, brightened in color.

His soul consciousness was growing steadily as time passes by and a white layer of light suddenly appeared and outlined his body, gradually growing brighter as he continues to cultivate.

Previously the varying balls of light were silent as ever, moving every once in a while. However, that all changed when a sudden suction force began pulling in marble-sized souls towards Feng Qin's direction.

These souls were the lowest types of souls and barely had any memories of their previous lives. Truthfully, they were more like highly condensed spiritual power and are extremely beneficial for spiritual or mental type cultivators; ones who focused more on cultivating spiritual power.

Feng Qin was extremely lucky. Even without a spiritual-type cultivation method, just under five hours he already brokethrough the Spiritual Connection Realm and was touching the surface of the Spiritual Sea Realm.

As he immersed himself in his cultivation, he didn't notice several red balls of light spreading a fiery heat had appeared around him, circling around him like mini suns. For an entire hour they stayed like that until one of them entered his fleshy right arm.

'Huh? This is...' Feng Qin found himself staring at a familiar red forest, only, it was during the day. He looked to be getting bathed in a large magma pool, fiery flames licked his face. It barely took him a moment to realize what was happening when he chance upon seeing his reflection against a smooth, reflective rock beside him.

"I'm a cat?"
