Chapter 119: Outer Gods

"Outer....gods?" Xiu Ye stared at Na Nali in clear confusion; this was the first time he ever heard of that word associated with a god...

Wait, no. He felt like he heard that term before–in his previous life.

Na Nali hummed as she tilted her head to examine the face of Xiu Ye with a peculiar look in her eyes.

"Judging by the expression on your face, I guess you don't know about them. Well I don't blame you, their existence has been kept a very confidential secret from Shrek and you guys don't listen to our kind much." She straightened her back up, her eyes never leaving Xiu Ye's form.

"Listen well, my little red haired swordsman. For you are perhaps one of the very few in the world to have ever heard about their existence, outside of the cult and Shrek, though that status of yours would soon be broken in little of half an hour or so."

"In the beginning, there was nothing. Just pure darkness and nothingness, a thoughtless void that no life nor concept exist. It was, simply put, an empty void. It continued like that for many, many years; probably even a quadrillion years until, a sudden flash of light appeared in the void and a loud bang was heard....echoing throughout the void which soon birthed the multiverse; then there was our universe; the galaxies; the stars; the planets and so on. We call the sudden creation of the multiverse, as the big bang."

"Although there was a legend about the creation of some legendary objects when the big bang appeared, objects that wielded the laws of the universe, but that would be a story for another time."

'....Why the fuck does that sound so familiar?' Xiu Ye scrunched his nose up in confusion, he felt some of the weapons in his inner world tremble for a moment–which included the original version of Mjolnir and Stormbreaker.

"Anyways~" Na Nali clapped her hands together, snapping Xiu Ye back to reality. "Our universe was created, life and numerous creatures soon followed. The age of the Primordial Era soon began. Unfortunately however, the history that documented the first creations and its civilization in the universe was never found, or it had never been documented in the first place. But that's not what we're focusing on."

"After the creation of the universe, and its many other creations, a certain powerful race of creatures was soon birth not long after. Their very powers could easy create life and take said lives; destroy planets and stars, control over time and space, making an entire galaxy tremble and etcetera..."

"The Gods..." Xiu Ye muttered.

"Bingo!" The lips on Na Nali widened, a sudden wave of spiritual power erupted from her body and most of its power hit straight at Xiu Ye; who let out a short scream of pain and fell down to his knees.

He heard lots, and he meant a lot, of gigantic bell noises ringing in his head. The sounds, it almost made his head explode!

"Whoopsie. Kinda lost control of my newfound power there for a moment, sorry~" Na Nali apologize as bopped the side of her with her right fist and stuck out her tongue. But the gleam in her eyes looked completely insincere.

'What the fuck was that?! Even the mindfuck of seeing Tianguo's real form couldn't even compare to that spiritual attack she did on me.' Xiu Ye bit his lips as he clutched his head hard, hoping for his healing factor to fix it the pain he was feeling.

"That was–?!" Tianguo spoke up, shocked. "Her spiritual power, although unstable and crude just as her soul power, had a hint of divine power! Not only that, but I can feel that it's completely different compared to any divine or immortal power I'm familiar with. Xiu Ye, be careful!"

"Pretty awesome, huh?" Na Nali giggled, her bell pupils momentarily glowed bright. "I got this as a gift, a thank you, from one of our beloved gods when I completed this holy mission, well, almost anyway. But, back to our history lesson!"

"Gods have been alive in this universe ever since its creation, probably to other universes as well, making them the most powerful race of many universes in the multiverse. For there was none that could rival the gods."

"Well, except for the forgotten Titan race but they were killed by the gods when they went to war with them so meh, but, what about before? Before there were gods, before life, before the very multiverse itself? Was there something lurking beyond the borders of the multiverse? Something strange? Something maddening? Were they nightmarish creatures that could rival or surpass gods? But, if there were, then where would we find them?"

"....the void." Xiu Ye responded. Na Nali's smile unnaturally widened even further, looking like a Cheshire cat from Alice in the Wonderland.

"In the void, was there something living, in the void? The answer is, of course, yes. And they were called, the Outer Gods." The pillar of red light let out a burst of unnatural energy, that spread throughout the entire city in an instant.

Both evil soul masters and the undead felt a sudden swell of power rise within them, and the previously winning humans were caught off guard and was soon massacred by them.

In Spirit Pagoda, the team that was trying to kill the escaping undead and cultists were soon decimated by them; all except for a few people.

The allied soul master forces that was cleaning up the Black Orchid Hotel soon found themselves ending up in the same fate as them.

The tables have turned, corpses and blood continued on piling up.

However, this all happened.... without Xiu Ye knowing as he continued on listening to Na Nali's explanation.

As he waited, and hoped, for that small window of chance to happen.

"The Holy Spirit Church was founded by the first founder when he had a dream of meeting an otherworldly being–Cthulhu, the Great Dreamer. It was then that Cthulhu told the founder about the Outer Gods' existence while telling him of many otherworldly knowledge and secrets of the universe; which soon earned the total devotion of the founder. It was what spurred him onto the creation of a religion that worshipped the Outer Pantheon, the Holy Spirit Church."

"The Outer Gods are like the most powerful gods; omnipotent and omniscient, but also unkillable and undying. They thrive on chaos, destruction and dreams or beliefs–its how they grow stronger and our kind as well, it's how so many soul masters with 'evil' martial souls are so easy to recruit most of the time. It's why we created the C-Virus after all." Xiu Ye widened his eyes in incredulity.

"What? Why?! How does a zombie fucking apocalypse lead up to outer gods? Where's the fucking connection to all that?!"

Seriously, how are zombies and gods connected?! Except for a certain novel he read before in his previous life that is.

Na Nali tilted her head to the side, visibly confused at the questions of Xiu Ye. "Did I not explain it to you? What makes an Outer God stronger? What also makes a firm line of connection to their dimension to ours?"

"A zombie apocalypse generates chaos, destruction, death, despair, grief and so many other negative energy that its visible in the air. As for beliefs, isn't it already been two nights now? How many people in the city, or in the outside, hasn't been visited by an Outer God in their dreams?"

The light pillar let out another pulse of unknown energy and the orb in light pillar started to jerk around uncontrollably, with the temperature around the basement plummeted to the point that even Xiu Ye was feeling cold, all light except for the one in the alter began to fade.

A cold dreaded feeling rose up in Xiu Ye's heart as the orb in light pillar burst open wide, and several large tentacles shot out.
