Chapter 3

Melisa arrived at the city, took a cab and located the apartment her she and her sister rented online. She got to the apartment, it was a one-man apartment; one master bedroom, a kitchen, a small dining room and a sitting room. It wasn't the only apartment there; there were many apartments out for letting. She went to the receptionist and collected the key to her room and went it.

it was at this point that she realized they didn't think of furniture. The house was empty but pretty. It was cute and clean, turns out they always clean the apartment before the tenants arrive.

She was so happy she didn't have to clean because she was exhausted. She went to the bedroom, laid a plain bed spread on the floor and laid down to sleep. She woke up the next morning with a back ache, immediately took a shower and headed out because she had nothing to eat in the house. After buying some groceries, she went mattress shopping.

She laid down on almost every single mattress in the store until she found the perfect one but couldn't afford it. She had no choice but to stop lookbing for a perfect bed and starting looking for one within her budget.

She took everything back home, made herself a little something to eat and headed out again but this time, she was looking for a job. She knew she didn't have a certificate she could use because she didn't finish college, so she started low. She first went to a bakery and offered to be a sales lady.

"hello, what pastry would you like" she receptionist asked.

"uhmm…I'm actually here to look for a job"

"I'm sorry but we don't need help here"

"Marcela, what happened in here" a voice came from the back, it was the owner of the shop-Mrs. Angela

"uhmm… I… I... was trying too…"

before the receptionist could finish

"you're fired!!!"

"ma I'm sorry"

"I said you're fired, get out of here and put up the 'help wanted' sign"

As she was leaving Malisa spoke up

"I'm actually here looking for a job ma'am"

the woman looked at her and asked,

"do u know anything about baking?"

"no ma'am but I can learn, I'm a fast learner. I promise not to mess up, I really need this job"

"I'm only giving you this job because you are here already and I really need help. But considering the fact that you are new, let's start with a simple task. Do u think you can take the place of the girl I just fired until I find someone to take over?"

"yes ma'am I can"

"good"

Melisa was so happy, she couldn't wait to call Rose and tell her how lucky she was to find this shop on her first day out.After a hard day job, Melisa also stayed back to clean up as part of her job. Mrs. Angela came in, gave her a shirt with the name "ONE OF A KIND PASTRIES" printed on it. It was written in black on a blue shirt.

"you are only allowed to were this with a anything blue or black and you are to wear it every day except Sundays. You are to be here as early as 7am to clean and I won't tolerate late coming and you leave 6pm after cleaning except Fridays and Saturdays when you are to leave by 4pm. Got it?"

"yes ma'am" Malisa replied

"see you tomorrow"

Malisa finished cleaning, locked up the store and headed home. She called Rose and told her everything that happened, she apologized for not calling the previous day and Rose as usual understood and was so happy about the job.

"the pay is going to be monthly, I don't know how much it's going to be but I'll send half of it to you as soon as I can"

"it's ok. But don't you think half is too much for me, I mean, I also having a small job here and I'm in a small town, things are cheap her. I feel you need more of the money than me. One third will do okay, you don't have to send half"

"thank you so much Rose, you are the best. I'm very tired now so I'm going to make dinner, eat and sleep. We will talk tomorrow okay?"

"okay. Goodnight Malisa"

"goodnight Rose".Malisa dressed the bed, made dinner for herself, eat and went to bed at 10pm.she was thinking about the things she needed around the house. She stood up and picked a book and pen to write them; a coffee maker, wardrobe, couches, floor carpets for the room and the sitting room too, a table with its chair, a drawer to keep beside her bed, a bed-side lamp and some boots and more trousers.With that written down, she was satisfied and finally slept.The next money, she woke up, made some eggs and ate before going to work. After closing up she stopped at a super market and got a coffee maker, a drawer and a lamp. After putting everything in order at the house, her room stated feeling like home and she was happy. She called her sister and told her everything that happened that day and Rose also shared how her day went and they both went to bed.

After Melisa was out of sight, Rose went to the medicine store and waited for Melisa's call. After the days' job, she laid on her bed still waiting for her sister to call. She picked up her phone call but she changed her mind and dropped the phone. She started thinking.

'did I make a mistake by letting her go first? What if she forgets about me and start living a city girl life?' She slept off thinking about that.When she woke up in the morning, she recalled her thoughts from the previous night and scolded herself for thinking that.

"she would never do that, we have only each other. She was probably tired and just wanted to rest".

The day went by and nothing new, nothing interesting happen, just her staying in the store, selling medicines and after that she went home. Immediately she got back, she received a call from Melisa. She got a job on her first try luckily. Rose was so happy for her and she couldn't wait for the time they would be together again.From that day, she always waits for a call from her sister or call her to get updates on the situation so that she should know their fate and also to her all about Malisa's day. That's the only thing she looks forward to every day. Sometimes, she felt like Melisa was still there with her but when she gets to the store in the morning, she faces reality and realizes that she is alone, on her own, in a shop, looking forward to hearing from her sister at night after her work.

A month later, Rosa receive $10,000 from her sister. She was so shocked when she saw it that she couldn't wait for Malisa's call any longer so she call her.

"Melisa, is this a prank"

Melisa laughed

"no Rosae and this is one-third of my salary"

"are you serious" Rose's eyes widened

"yea my dear sister. If we keep this up, you're going to be here with me in less than a year"

"Ahhhhh" Rose screamed out of joy.

She couldn't wait for the moment she would leave this small town and join her sister.The two sisters rejoiced to early. Malisa handled two peoples' job for a month and now Mrs. Angela has found someone that will take over the cleaning part.

Mrs. Angela broke the news to her and her pay is now going to be $20,000 instead of $30,000. Malisa didn't know how to break the news to her sister bit she eventually told her. Although she was sad, there was nothing she could do.This means that it would take longer than a year before they can be together.
