Bailed out

Aurora was busy tapping her pencil on her desk, she wasn't really paying attention to what Mr Kel was saying, the only thing she was waiting for was the lunch break bell so she could talk to Eric more, but then she rembered that she didn't talk to boys for mere talking sake and if Emily saw her talking with him she would assume immediately that something was going on between them, that wasn't something Aurora wanted.

"What is wrong with you Aurora?" Aurora mumbled, shaking her head slightly. "Why are you thinking about him?"

Mr Kel noticed that Aurora wasn't paying attention to his teaching and then put up a strategy to humiliate her.

"Miss Hills" Mr Kel called softly.

Aurora didn't hear him she was still battling with her mind to stop thinking about Eric, who was just sitting at her right.

"Hey are you okay?" Eric asked, noticing the strange words she's been mumbling.

"Yeah, why do you ask?" Aurora replied, rubbing her hair.

"Because the teacher just called twice and you didn't reply"

"Oh my God" Aurora gasped.

She slowly turned to face Mr Kel who was now staring at her with anger.

"Aurora!" you could easily tell he was angry now with the way those words thundered and Aurora wasn't going to like what was about to happen.

"Sir" Aurora replied forcing out an awkward smile.

Mr Kel slowly walked up to her as if he was about to beat her.

"Now tell me what's that thing?"

"What thing sir?"

"I'm asking you a question and you are also replying me with one" Mr Kel said angrily.

"I'm sorry sir but I don't understand what you are talking about"

"Oh… you don't understand why you are absent minded in my class"

"I wasn't absent minded" Aurora denied.

Mr Kel gave a mischievous smile, everything was going as he planned.

"Really"

"Yes sir"

"What if I ask you a question and you don't get it right"

Eric was trying to tell her to just admit she was absent minded, he tried kicking her leg but when he did it the first time she shifted it from his reach.

"Question?"

It was true that Aurora wasn't paying attention, but she wasn't ready to admit anything now with the ideology that biology is not a hard subject.

"Yes,based on what I was teaching" Mr Kel said, pointing backwards to the board.

The whole class had been watching Aurora and Mr Kel who were trying to prove each other wrong.Aurora was very much aware that the whole class were watching, and that was the main reason she had to not fail any question Mr Kel was going to ask her.

"I can sweep the class for a week" Aurora said reluctantly.

She knew that choosing an easy task would mean that she was afraid that she would fail the question in other words saying that she was for sure, absent minded.

"Good" Mr Kel smiled mischievously while rubbing his palms.

"Just get on with the question" Aurora mumbled.

"Your question is" he stopped to look at all the students, whose attention were now on him." What is the scientific name of a dog?"

"He didn't teach us that" Eric mumbled.

He tried to tell Aurora, but Mr Kel gave him a stern look which meant that he shouldn't try any nonsense.

"Scientific name of what?" Aurora asked to make sure she heard him right.

"A dog"

"Do they have scientific names?" she whispered to herself.

"What was that?"

"Nothing"

"Well go on and answer the question"

"Are you sure you know the answer?" Emily, who had been silent the whole time decided to ask.

"I'm sure I just need little time to remember it" Aurora said nervously.

"Sure"

"Yes"

"Hey you are not allowed to talk to anyone till you answer my question"

"Ok I'm sorry"

" I'm waiting, you have only five minutes to answer the question or you'll do your volunteered punishment" Mr Kel said checking his watch.

Aurora stood there with no idea of what to say, she didn't expect this type of question from Mr Kel.Emily knew that Mr Kel had told nothing about the scientific name of a dog, but he had warned all of them to keep quiet with his face language, Emily couldn't stand watching Aurora get humiliated,so she decided to leave the class.

"Excuse me sir" Emily said, standing up.

"Yes" Mr Kel said, looking directly into her eyes.

"I just want to go ease myself sir"

"Oh, you can go then" you could sense there was a kind relief in his voice now.

Emily slowly left her seat and started walking to the door, she turned to look at Aurora, before opening and closing the door behind herself.

Aurora had only two minutes to go now before everybody would start laughing at her for getting fooled and punished at the same time,Eric was aware of this,he couldn't tell Aurora that it was all a trick but he had to help her in anyway possible.

"Two minutes left Aurora" Mr Kel smiles mischievously and looks at his watch.

Eric, aware that Mr Kel was watching starts to browse through his biology textbook slowly, looking for the scientific name of a dog, when he finds it he slowly pulls out his small jotter from his backpack without drawing Mr Kel's attention, then he tears a little piece from it and writes the answer on it.

"A minute left now" Mr Kel said.

Aurora was just about to give up before time, when Eric signalled her to keep calm.

"What's he doing?" she mumbled to herself.

Aurora remained cool trying to find out whatever Eric was up to.Eric pulled out an empty pen after observing that Mr Kel's phone was slightly sticking out of his pocket and would need just a little push to fall off, but Mr Kel was looking at him now so he couldn't do anything.

"Thirty seconds now" Mr Kel said quickly turning to look out the window.

With that opportunity Eric threw the pen cover which knocked down Mr Kel's phone.

"Oh no! my phone" Mr Kel quickly bent to pick his phone.

Eric with that opportunity quickly slid the piece of paper into Aurora's hand, she quickly opened the piece of paper and read its content.

"Sir the answer is canis domestica"

Mr Kel was shocked as he picked his phone up, that answer had come just two seconds before the time was completed.

"But how?" Mr Kel was really surprised.

"I was just stalling so you would think I didn't know it". Aurora said smiling.

"You and whoever helped you out got lucky today" Mr Kel said angrily, this made the whole class to start laughing.

"Shut up all of you!"

The bell for lunch break rang immediately and everyone started to leave, but they was still laughter everywhere,Mr Kel left immediately he was really frustrated. While students were leaving the class Aurora turned to leave and caught Eric smiling at her, then it occured to her what had just happened.
