Chapter 8: healing paste

"*Yawn* why did you wake me up, it's so early!" Richie asked half asleep

- time waits for no man, if you want to get into the alchemist guild then you've got to work hard for it-

It was currently 2 days before the yearly mass recruitment of the guilds, well, that was what he was told by Rachel, so it was about time for him to sharpen his nonexistent alchemy skills.

Richie, even before his clan was destroyed was not a great alchemist, only concocting a 1st realm low grade qi gathering pill purely by chance (to become an alchemist you must be able to concoct a pill at the same star level, e.g a 2 star would be able to concoct a 2nd realm pill and a 3 star alchemist would be able to concoct a 3rd realm pill etc) Therefore Richie was not really a qualified alchemist, and now that he hadn't been practicing for a while, he doubted he would even be able to concoct a pill at all!

" you're right system, I have to work hard."

"uhh, actually, I don't have anything to make a pill out of"

-Your not making a pill idiot, your making some healing paste, it's so much easier, here I'll give you the resources now-

All of a sudden, some soothing honey, some wind stalks and some powdered fire breath appeared on his table, these were the ingredients to make a healing paste.

Richie was once again amazed by the magical ways of the system.

-will the cauldron out of the system to use it-

Richie did as the system said and suddenly, Bang, the hellfire cauldron hit the ground making the entire tavern shake

WHY IS IT SO HEAVY! Richie screamed internally, it was massive as well, standing almost to the top if his room.

-shrink- the system commanded, and then he cauldron started rumbling and then, started shrinking to just above Richie's chest level.

Phew, Richie sighed in relief, at least now he could see inside the cauldron.

- There, now don't tell me I dont do anything nice for you-

- now, dont mistake this for me being kind to you, I have been forced to give you this-

-ding, received alchemy technique: 'yin-yang harmonisation technique-

-this technique allows you to use both the fires of yang and the ice fires of yin, at the highest level of master, you wont even need to concoct anything, the fires will do the work for you-

Another yin-yang technique, why do you keep giving me these things, Richie inquired to the system.

- you'll know later, there is a reason other than yin-yang techniques being the best there is for an alchemist-

"I'll start now"

-I don't care, why are you telling me?-

After ignoring the system, Richie then started the fire underneath the cauldron (on a heat proof mat) before putting the soothing honey into it.

The hellfire cauldron was extremely easy to use, it was like he could feel everything happening in the cauldron like it was part of his own body, after 2 minutes exactly, Richie increased the temperature of the fire by exactly 34 degrees, no more no less.

2 seconds after, he threw the powdered fire breath into the cauldron, changing the temperature over the time of 5 minutes to fully get all of the effects of the fire breath to show.

Then, he made the temperature sharply fall by 47 degrees before also throwing the wind stalks into the cauldron.

Meanwhile, the system was basically throwing up at how repulsive Richie's alchemy comprehension is "YOUR SUPPOSED TO LOWER THE TEMPERATIRE BY 25 DEGREES NOT 47, ARE YOU BLIND!" is what the system wanted to say, but because of the systems rules, he couldn't help Richie in his alchemy, so he had to bear looking at Richie's repulsive alchemy work for a while longer.

A little while later...

*whoosh* Richie extinguished the fire using his qi, the final product was ready, but just when he was about to retrieve it from the cauldron. it started glowing red, the cauldron started shaking, it did this for 2 minutes before calming down.

"what was that?" Richie asked the system

- The special attribute of the cauldron working- the system replied.

Richie then pulled the healing paste out of the furnace with his qi and placed it into a bottle.

"can I, like appraise the paste?" Richie asked the system

- sure, just say 'appraise '-

"appraise", Richie spoke.

- u are so gullible, you know that, just like EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE SYSTEM, you just will for it to happen- The system managed to fool Richie again, you'd think he'd have learned his lesson by now, but no.

-this was after the cauldron effects just so you know-

Richie immediately fell into despair, it was HEALING PASTE, it was supposed to be easy to make it, how was he so bad at it?

it only reached 35% purity after the upgrading effects of the cauldron. How was he ever going to get into the alchemy guild with results like this.

- uh, it's not that bad, average alchemist would only get around 30% purity, you should be thankful for the fact that you're only below average- the system tried to console Richie, but it sounded more like an insult to be honest.

-but I kind of expected that, you didn't use the yin-yang techniques in you alchemy, if you do that next time, the results will be visibly better-

Richie face palmed himself, he had completely forgotten to use the new technique he got, it probably would have been a huge help to his forging, it might even make him comparable to an average 1 star alchemist, Richie realised.

Though it was a bit odd how he was content with being average, but for now, that doesn't matter.
