Low Blow

'Leave? Where am I going?' she wondered, still baffled at this new side of Jorge.

"Don't leave me!" he whispered yet again.

His voice cracked with a raw need that made Mirabel get goosebumps all over her body. It was as if he believed that she was going to leave him. She tried to think hard about the probability that she may have done something, but nothing came to her mind.

'What's going on?'

She frowned and said softly, and right in his ear, "I will never leave until you let me go …." She pushed even more closer than they were, needing to assure him somehow of whatever doubts he suddenly had of her. She added, "…for I will not stay with someone who does not want me, but I know you will never let me go, so we are stuck together, Jorge!"

She leaned back a little, moving up, and kissed his eye close.

"Go to sleep, Jorge; I will be here when you wake up, hmmm?"
