Shy and scholarly, long-distance swimmer Ryan Zwick thinks he’s the only gay member of the college swim team. He keeps his head down in the showers, and his head in the books the rest of the time. Chapter 47

“Hi!” Erik said cheerfully, happy with the confirmation that Marissa was just a friend. “I’m Erik!” he introduced himself, shaking Marissa’s small, gloved hand.

“Nice to meet you,” said Marissa politely. Ryan could tell that her mind was working at full steam.

“Erik is my boyfriend,” Ryan dropped the news in front of her. He was proud of the fact; proud that he was no longer the needy single gay friend of an overachieving fag hag. But Marissa was not upset—instead, Ryan saw that she was smiling knowingly, sincerely happy for Ryan.

“Oh, I’m so glad,” said Marissa, setting down the textbook on her bag, and then reaching up to give Erik a hug. Then she turned to Ryan, “Can we talk—just for a second?” Ryan looked at Erik, and Erik nodded, not bothered by the sudden intrusion.
