Chapter 42

“It’s all right,” said Erik. “I like a bit of a mess. Now I get to see the real Ryan Zwick.” Ryan watched Erik’s green-blue eyes scanning the room, taking in all the personal information it beheld—the concert posters, the old photos of his Jersey cows back home, a few swimming medals, and his Pearson Scholar scarf, thrown over the back of his desk chair.

“And? Do you like what you see?” asked Ryan, hopeful.

“Yes,” said Erik. “I always thought you were a beautiful person, but now I get to understand all the different pieces of you.” Erik leaned over and untied his shoes, kicking them off at the doorway, before moving over to Ryan’s bed. Ryan felt his heart leap once more—a giddy kind of wonderfulness that filled his whole body. Is this what love feels like?He wondered—he wanted nothing more than Erik—nothing more than to make Erik happy.
