“I’m listening,” said Ryan, who only wanted to keep kissing him and then do even more. He wanted everything, right now. He wanted morning never to come, and he wanted to make love to Erik right there, in the pool, even if the whole world woke up and came down to watch.

“Ryan,” Erik began, his hands on top of the water, “I like you.”

“I like you, too,” said Ryan quickly, not wanting the conversation to distract them from this moment. That was enough, yes? They liked one another—wonderful, okay?—let’s kiss, he thought.

“Ryan—I like you a lot,” said Erik, “and I want to go out with you.”

“Like, be boyfriends?” Ryan asked hopefully.

“Yeah—I wanna be your boyfriend. I wanna date you. I want to be with you,” said Erik.

“Okay,” said Ryan, grinning wildly in the darkness. “Yes!”
