Shy and scholarly, long-distance swimmer Ryan Zwick thinks he’s the only gay member of the college swim team. He keeps his head down in the showers, and his head in the books the rest of the time. But when a sporty new transfer student joins the team, Ryan feels a surge of hope. Sexually inexperienced and looking for love, fellow swimmer Blake Gossens is everything Ryan wants in a boyfriend. “Very much, sir. I slammed my brakes back at the light, sir, but the bus just slid right on through—I didn’t have no control…”

“I know, I know,” said the cop. “I mean, you didrun a red light, technically, but I saw the whole thing happen and there was nothing else you could do—it’s the darned ice. Thank God you didn’t give me a six-car pile-up to deal with.” The bus driver nodded timidly at the cop.

Coach Ken leaned toward the window and intervened, “Excuse me officer, I’ve got a whole college swim team in this bus—and we’re headed back to Chippewa after an all-day swim meet…

“Well, did you win at least?” the cop smiled, in spite of the freezing rain in his face.

“Second place out of six teams, so we’re happy!” said the coach.

“Did you beat Minnesota State?” asked the cop, peering up at the windows on the bus.
