Core Formation

(Quick note, from now on I will be focusing a lot more on Dayn as well as his thought processes behind different things. Hopefully, this will create more of a first-person experience as I have not done that too much so far. As always enjoy :))

Later that night Dayn was lying down on his bed reading through the Light Orb spellbook by candlelight, and as he turned to the last page, a folded piece of parchment paper fell out. He quietly set the book down before grabbing the paper and unfolding it. Dayn's eyes flicked over the words at the very top.

'Mana-Filtration and Core Development Technique'

A creepy smile slowly crept onto his face as he continued reading through the contents of the paper. A few minutes later he finished reading through it and began to organize his thoughts before summarizing all of the small details.

'So, mana-filtration is the process of absorbing mana in the surrounding area and guiding it into your body's center. Once you guide the mana there you must compress it as well as purify it by creating a clear mental image of your core forming into a spherical shape.', he recited in his mind.

Dayn was so excited about this that he decided he must form his core right here and now.

He recalled that the paper recommended that he sit in a meditative position before beginning as it would be easier to focus.

He then sat upright with his legs crossed in front of him and began to beckon the mana in the air towards his body. Slowly but surely mana began to seep into him from all directions, some of it feeling hot, other parts of it cold. Dayn felt very uncomfortable as this happened and began to sweat all over, but he pushed through.

The reason he pushed through, however, was because the paper had mentioned that once the mana began to enter the body if the core was not formed it would be forcefully expelled causing an explosion. The paper did not mention what harm this would cause the body so he could only assume the worst.

Several minutes later and the mana finally reached the center of his body. Now came the second step. He began to compress the mana forcing it into a spherical shape. His body then began to shake from exertion, and he felt as if he would pass out at any moment.

'Just a little bit more.', he thought encouraging himself to push forward. Another few minutes of grueling work later and he had compressed his mana into the desired spherical shape.

'Now time for the impurities.'

The paper also mentioned that when one formed their mana core there would be impurities inside of it. As to why? Everybody could only speculate. It also said that mana core growth was directly correlated to how many impurities one removed from their core, and the easiest time for this was when one was first forming it. If a person removed around 15% of the impurities, they would be considered average, if a person achieved 35%, they would be excellent, then at 55%, one would be considered a genius. In the recorded history of the continent, no human had been able to form above a 60%. The paper had finished after this line leaving Dayn with no instructions on how to remove the impurities, so now he was all on his own.

As he gazed inwardly at his pure white mana core he could see small black dots inside of it that seemed to move about randomly bumping against the outside. He first attempted to form a needle of mana to stab at the black dots, but after trying a few times he gave up as he was unsuccessful. Knowing that he was running out of time he tried to think of several new ideas but each of these also failed.

Suddenly he had an epiphany.

'Wait, can't I just force more mana into my core while keeping it at the same compression level forcing the impurities out?'

'Well, if anything it's worth a try.', he thought reluctantly.

He then began to drag in more mana from the outside causing his core to go under extreme stress. As this new mana entered his core, some of the impurities began to fly out.

'Good, it's working!', he thought excitedly.

His excitement didn't last for long however as he now found his core giving him a painful throbbing sensation. As he dragged more and more mana into it the pain started to become unbearable, but he pushed through as much as he could.

After the pain reached a certain level, he promptly fell unconscious onto his bed with a smile crossed with a grimace on his face. He had managed to expel a large amount of the impurities, the amount reaching an astounding 63%, the highest ever in recorded history.

Soon, his parents would awaken the next morning to a horrible stench coming from his room.

His father found him first and ran to his side trying to shake him awake before calling out to Helen to take care of him while he ran to go and get Anne. In his hurry, he had not noticed the large amount of black ooze that caked Dayn's sheets and covered parts of his body.

Anne arrived a little bit later but had not seemed in a hurry at all to get to the house. Even with Marcus's urgent tone, she still walked at a leisurely pace as if all was right with the world.

As Anne entered the room she could not help but smile and applaud the boy for being successful with his core formation. She did have some concerns with giving the boy the technique, but she believed that he would be able to do it.

Anne spent the next few minutes comforting both of the parents before they all realized that they didn't want to bear the smell anymore and cleaned up the Area.

Soon, Dayn would awake and discover remarkable changes within his body.
