Mission Accomplished, Rewards, and Side Missions!

<|Jasmine's POV|>

Once entering the estate, Touka and I followed Takashi's group. Other than dropping off the Maresatos, we had matters we would like to discuss with Souichiro.

"Dad!" Saya, who saw her father, immediately ran towards him. And seeing his daughter run up to him, the gruff, bear-like man cracked a small smile as he pulled her into a hug.

"Saya... I knew you'd find your way home." The man softly commented, causing me to inwardly sneer as a more cynical part of me whispered.

'Yeah, tell that to those parents who won't get to ever see their child again.' Shaking away such thoughts, I simply smiled as we let the two have their moment.

After some introductions and a check-up, Touka and I finally got a chance to talk with the man in private. Donning on a braver persona, I started, "Takagi-san, are you sure that you will protect everyone that comes here?"

If he was offended my question, he didn't show it as he answered me with a wary glare. "I will. And what is the purpose of this question?"

Pulling out a walkie-talkie, I threw it at him. He easily caught it, and with it jn his grasp, he gave us a raised eyebrow.

"We have a base set up at the main bridge. My group and I will be staying there and be helping out whatever survivors we come across and lead them to you." As I explained this I stared at the people below us. A lot were injured, depressed, and in grief, but they were safe nonetheless.

"Why exactly would you do that?" The man asked, his gruff tone softening slightly.

"My group is fine as is. We don't need anyone's help, we're pretty decent in supplies, and we want to keep to ourselves. But we'll help when we can, so you should fortify the road going to the main bridge." I clarified, making our intentions clear. We don't want to be involved, but we'll still help out.

"We'll see ourselves out." And just like that, we left Souichiro, and then the estate like we owned the place.

Once a fair distance away, I let out a sigh of relief as I put away the mask.

"Movies make it look so easy." Acting like nothing can bother me and being a badass main protagonist was °hard°. I was just not that kind of person!

"So, you know how to hot wire a car?" I asked Touka as I realized that walking a mile to our destination when it was getting close to night time wasn't ideal.

'Wait. How far did I plan this to go again?' It seems that I forgot to put our way back as part of the equation.

"I do. Come on. I see a car we could use." Thanks to Touka's questionable skill, we get to go home with no worries.

A surprising amount of days pass by with no trouble whatsoever. When zombies come and pass by our street, we routinely kill them. I was initially scared when I went to face off against my first zombie, with 2B watching over me, but after pushing away some thoughts and a bit of finding the right mindset, I was able to kill a zombie without hesitation.

There were times where survivors would stumble upon us looking for safety or for the Takagi estate, and we'll be there to help them. That's when we usually call Souichiro to either pick the survivors up if they had children with them, but if they were all capable adults then we'll just give them some rations and a mapped out path that shows the guarded road.

We rarely get bored too since I brought with me a lot of card games, watched some movies, and trained. Of course, the EMP nuke had exploded atop Japan a few days ago, but being protected by the EMP blocker, the Takagi estate and our base were all fine and we could use the Dust Generator that Penny brought along to allow us to use our electronics. And as for training, I was obviously the weakest of the group, since I didn't usually work out or do anything strenuous, but thanks to everyone's patience and Kim's help, I have started my path to becoming a decent fighter.

"Too bad you can't unlock out Aura's, Penny." I lamented at the missed opportunity.

"Hehehe. Sorry about that Jazzie! I didn't realize that I could do that and did not process the Aura Awakening Chant." The beautiful ginger replied with a laugh before sipping her coffee. Despite being an android, Penny and 2B really liked anything that tasted like coffee, but not like I can blame them. I myself am partial to iced coffees and Touka and Kim were also good with coffee, the former being that it was the only other liquid that she can taste without it being trash.

"Still, can't believe that a week and a half passed this fast." Despite the world being struck with a zombie apocalypse, time passed as quickly as it did because of all the fun I was having with my friends.

"Only a week more, huh."

<|Timeskip|>

Zombie are overrated. Of course, the "normal" zombies, I mean, the ones where they just walk, shamble, crawl. You know, not World War Z or Resident Evil level of zombies, with the former having running zombies that can climb over each other and the latter having some mutated ones and the normal zombies taking at least °4° headshots from a decent pistol.

As we closed the 20 day mark, the zombies were now more bone than skin, °literally°. The walking corpse's skin and muscles have decomposed and even a breeze can knock them down.

Speaking of which, with the zombies weakening, the Japanese government had strengthened their efforts and had put up outposts and camps all around Japan. Since electronics were still fried all this information came from Souichiro, who had become the "leader" of this city. Also, it seems that, although this zombie virus was a concentrated attack on Japan, it had spread to closer countries, but they seem to be doin well. As for those who bioengineered the zombie virus and attacked Japan, they were still unknown.

"One more day guys. One more day. I mean, I love spending time with you, but I miss the internet and I absolutely need to sleep without a zombie waking me up every hour!" It was anticlimactic, how this was all going to end. If anything, you can even call it boring! Thankfully my friends and I just used this opportunity to get to know each other better, to prepare ourselves, and to simply get a grasp of how these missions would work.

"After meeting you all and experiencing all this, I find myself missing my...friend." It was 2B out of all of us who changed the most. Despite still being the stoic beauty that she is, she was now open-minded, able to understand emotions, and smiled more. It was really beautiful to see how she grew in this 20 days here in this post-apocalyptic world.

"Heh. Me too." Touka added, hair slightly damp as she had just finished taking a bath. "After this I'mma buy two of those DNA Alteration pills. Ooh! I can't wait to finally eat °normal° food!"

The DNA Alteration pills were, as its name states, alters someone's DNA, with this specific one altering a ghoul's diet. It was something Touka planned to buy after this, and I'm glad I had that passing thought all those days ago.

"Ooh! When we have another mission next time, I'll be sure to awaken your auras!" Penny exclaimed excitedly, eyes gleaming with wonder. I was pretty excited about this. With our Aura's unlocked, it would be a great help, especially if our Semblance's would be strong as well!

"With 20 days of free time, I'm °way° ahead the curriculum! With this I wouldn't have to worry about cramming last minute lessons after finishing a mission!" And Kim, our goody-goody, added with a self-satisfied smirk. I initially cringed at Kim's honestly scary dedication, but it was admiring how she was being so efficient and focused! Makes me want to actually focus on my own academics more when I start college, but only a little.

"Well, till next time?"

""Until/Till next time.""

And just like that, the familiar, yet unfamiliar blankness encompassed me once more, and gone were my friends, now replaced by my room.

In front of me was a window, one I quickly put my attention on.

[Real Girl!: Its like there's an °infinite° amount of Side Missions!]

Going to the newly added Side Missions tab, I realized °why° Penny thought that there was an infinite amount of it. As I scroll down, I catch glimpses of both franchises I know and don't know, and after a few minutes, I don't think I even gone past °1%° of it! Thankfully I spotted a search and type tab. Curiously, I looked up RWBY, and was met with multiple side missions!

Kill grimm, kill a type of grimm, kill a specific amount of grimm, construction, charity work, gardening, just about anything that could be considered as a Side Mission was here, and there was definitely nothing that could be considered as major.

'If we choose a Side Mission in someone's own world, will we meet them their? Or will this be a different version of their universe?' This was a question that I'll eventually follow through, but for now I closed the Side Missions tab and went back to the conversation.

[2B: I'm interested with gardening. I think I'll do some gardening side missions on my free time.]

[Real Girl!: That's cute!]

[Possible: Hey @Sleepdeprived? Are you there?]

[Real Girl!: Touka? Oh! She's not here!]

[Real Girl!: @Sleepdeprived!]

[Yuri: Don't worry about Touka. She must've bought the DNA Alterations right after we finished the missions. Probably went on gone on an eating spree.]

[Yuri: Or, according to my knowledge about taking pills or anything that alters you on a fundamental level, then she's either knocked out or in extreme pain.]

[Real Girl!: @Sleepdeprived DO YOU NEED HELP!?]

Laughing at Penny's reaction, I left the chat. I do hope Touka wasn't feeling the latter category, but right now I really needed to sleep.
