He was sitting in the stands overlooking the examination of Twilight, with a small white phoenix sleeping in his embrace and a strong feeling of tension in his entire body.

He was keeping an encouraging expression for Twilight, but inside he was a bundle of nerves not smaller than Twilight herself who was currently walking towards the green dragon egg with trepidation.

And he wasn't worried without a reason either. It was distinctly pointed out in the show that the next ten minutes would decide the faith of the entire Equestria. He didn't know if his existence changed the future or even if Twilight came for the examination at the correct time to experience the Sonic Rainboom.

A lot depended on Twilight's magic overcharging during this exam, and Starfall was scared that if his existence changed something, the Elements of Harmony might not become a thing and he would have to take care of every cataclysm by himself...

He watched Twilight straining herself, trying to form the connection with her magical core and hatch the egg, but failing miserably. She was clearly too stressed, and even though her magic was great for a pony her age, she was still unable to form the link between the core and the horn. This is the reason why Starfall considered this exam rather fallacious. They could very easily miss a real treasure just because the examinee was not yet able to form a connection with her great magic. Twilight had an amazing magical core that was clearly comparable or even better than the most powerful ponies Starfall ever seen. She was far from an Alicorn, but her magic was already spread out so much that if she finally made the link to her horn, she should become very powerful.

It was Starfall's observation. The more compressed in a single point somepony's magic is, the less potential they had in magic. If he was not a stubborn weirdo that he is, he would have been a mediocre if not a weak unicorn who would be barely able to cast a levitation spell.

It all depended on the form of your magical core and if you learn how to change it at will you could probably become a real monster...

His Mage Sight was in full swing as he observed the happenings in the center of the room. Twilight was already loosing hope of passing the Exam and her magic was subsequently weakening as her current will wasn't strong enough to succeed in forming the connection.

But as she was about to give up, Starfall felt a change in the air... He felt goosebumps allover his body as a feeling of something powerful approaching permeated the air.

He saw the light coming through the windows and realized that he was the only person who was actually seeing it.

He felt his magic stirring inside his body without him doing anything and that gave him an idea...

And then it happened...

A blinding magical shockwave passed through the room and momentarily overloaded Twilight who started going out of control just like in the show.

Her magic was going haywire all over the place...but she was not the only one!

It was a spontaneous decision from his side to once again try and push his magic to release his core.

The Blast of Magic finally allowed Starfall to break that cursed limitation of his magical core and unleash his magic from its confines! He was experiencing something similar to Twilight, whose large amount of magic was forcefully connected to her horn and overcharged.

Starfall's Magic while large, always had a weak output and wouldn't allow him to cast any really large spells, but what he just experienced was basically a flood of magic that completely shattered this limitation.

He tried to reign all this newfound power in but it was not as easy as he expected even with the years he spend on training his magical control. He didn't even realize when a pulse of his magic went to his flanks and connected with them, too preoccupied with stopping his magic from affecting the surroundings.

Princess Celestia had a very pleasant day.

Just this morning, a letter came from one of her former students, telling of how she was marrying in the next month and Celestia was invited to attend. She really liked when ponies treated her like just a normal pony or a friend and not some kind of deity.

Then came the entrance examination of the newest students of her school, and her own nephew was about to attend it!

She was really proud of the young Blueblood. It was a very long time since she took such a liking to one of her distant relatives. She was on friendly terms with his parents. They were some of the better ones amongst the Royal family, but she didn't get that familiar feeling towards them that she got with the little monochromatic colt. He really felt like a family to her and she came to really care about him. He always treated her like just her after all. It was never, princess Celestia for him. She was his aunt first and foremost.

That's why she was extremely happy when she saw him casting such a powerful spell and even hatching a phoenix! She wanted to straight up take him as her personal student but she still needed to watch the rest of the exams. She usually sat there watching the new fillies under an invisibility spell, but she knew that Starfall would be happy to see her so she showed herself to him. She was amused with the reaction of the little filly that she recognized as Twilight Sparkle. As far as she remembered Twilight was Starfall's closest friend and she was often mention by Cadence when she spoke about her Foal-sitting and how fun it was. Maybe she should also try it someday....no...she has too many duties to do stuff like this.

She congratulated Starfall on passing the exam and gave him a few pointers about raising phoenixes. He gladly listened to what she was saying and then surprised her when he told her that Twilight was also taking the exam in an hour.

She could feel strong magic from the filly, so she knew that even if she performed poorly in the exam, she would still pass as that was one of the reasons Celestia always overlooked the examination. Sensing magic was a trick she picked up in all those years of being an Alicorn. It was very useful in many situations and this was certainly one of them.

She watched as the little filly tried and failed to connect with her large amount of magic. Celestia was about appear and say that she passed the exam, but suddenly something unheard of happened.

She felt something was about to happen just before a shockwave of magic blasted through the room and chaos ensued.

She felt that her magic reserves got slightly refilled, but the shockwave didn't really affect her.

That couldn't be said though about the two fillies residing in this room. In all her years of life never had she seen such an extreme case of a magical overcharge! And it was happening to two different Ponies in the same room!

She was about to help Starfall as she was closer to him, but to her surprise, the colt actually managed to rein his magic in totally on his own! And he even got a cutie mark! She really wanted to just straight up hug her little nephew and congratulate him, But she didn't have the time to do that as the little Twilight had just caused her newly hatched dragon to grow big and break though the roof.

Yes...This was a really exciting day for one Princess Celestia...

When everything finally calmed down, Starfall couldn't contain his excitement.

He finally did it! He broke the limitation of his magical core and changed it's form into higher level! And the timeline was still mostly unaffected! That was reassuring to know.

He was about to do a thorough examination of his magic, but the happy words of Princess Celestia stopped him from doing so as he was too shocked to react.

"Oh my! It seems like I'll have to take you both as my personal students if you are going to give me such surprises hahaha!" She laughed and smiled at Starfall and Twilight standing now in front of her in the middle of the room.

"And look! You even got yourself your Cutie Marks!" She pointed towards their flanks and if someone ever asks Starfall, he would deny jumping all around the room while chanting 'Yes!' together with Twilight...
