Star Hunters expression looked rather awkward and confused, but internally he felt quite terrified.

It wasn't everyday that you were stared down by a Prince who could easily order your execution, imprisonment, or take you down with overwhelming force, without you being able to do anything...

When he opened the doors to his house, confused about the sudden evening visit, he didn't expect Prince Starfall Blueblood himself to barge in, never taking his glowing purple eyes away from him...

"M-my Prince!...W-what can I do for you?..." He asked, trying to keep his cool. The Prince didn't know of his identity. How could he. After all, he never reverted back to his original form when not at home. Then why...

"Star Hunter... Quite the bold name. but who am I to judge. We're not the ones to name ourselves after all..." Starfall stated, causing him to feel a sweat run down his forehead.

"I-I assure you that-"He wasn't sure what he wanted to say, but the Prince didn't wait for his explanation.

"Quite a nifty trick that is, you know." Starfall pointed at his face as his eyes glowed brighter.

"It took me a while to make it work, but a little struggle and a lot of pain was all I needed to make it a reality." He explained, efficiently confusing Star Hunter.

"I-I'm sorry. I think I don't quite understand..." He said with a stutter, and Starfall smirked, making him shudder.

"My vision." Starfall elaborated. "If I will it so, I can use my eyes to quite literally see magic."

Star Hunter didn't like when this was going.

"And do you want to know what I see when I look at you Star Hunter?" He asked, and Star Hunter had the sinking feeling that the other party was keenly aware of his status.

"My Prince I...I assure you, It was never my intention to ever harm anypony...I-I just wanted to live quietly..."He stuttered, hoping that he could convince the other party of his goodwill...

Starfall gave him another smile, this one a bit more genuine before walking past the other party and sitting on the sofa, not even sparing him a glance.

"Come Hunter, let's talk." Starfall invited him to the table, and Star Hunter could do nothing but obey. He knew he was no match against the Prince. He watched his fight against the Ursa minor from afar, where he easily toyed with the humongous cub as it wandered into town that one time, and Star Hunter was positive that he couldn't turn into anything that big, not to mention that powerful.

_________

As they sat in front of eachother, Starfall looked at the "Pony" in front of him with a raised eyebrow.

"Well? What's the point of hiding? You can change to your real form. I won't judge." Starfall urged him, and Star Hunter lost the last sparks of hope that he misunderstood the Prince.

A Pilar of green magical fire surrounded Star Hunter for a second, and as it subsided, the pony disappeared and in its place sat a creature that haunted the dreams of many Ponies, regardless of age.

It's body was still shaped mostly like a pony, but instead of a coat, it was covered in an all encompassing black chitin exoskeleton with some dark blue accent on its back, a small smooth horn on his forehead, and with a pair of blue expressionless eyes with no iris nor pupil.

It's limbs were covered in large see through holes that reminded Starfall of swish cheese, while a pair of blue transparent bug wings made him instantly notice a slight sparkling discoloration at their tips, which meant the changeling in front of him was actually making a very small but positive progress in forgoing the love-sucking vampire-like lifestyle and befriending others.

The Changeling looked at Starfall expecting a look of disgust of fear, but he didn't expect Starfall to lean closer in excitement and curiosity.

"Fascinating! Your magic actually transform your body to a different shape! But to think you can keep the unstable transformation for so long without loosing control...How do I call you? I assume Star Hunter is not you real name?" Starfall tried to calm his outburst and finally asked the confused changeling.

"Uhh...I-I didn't really receive one. The Queen sometimes forgot about naming us...but I...I usually went by Kevin..." Said the Changeling, remembering some past memories.

Starfall nodded while mentally patting himself on the shoulder. So it was indeed Kevin the Changeling.

"Are...Are you going to k-kill or imprison me?" Kevin finally asked quite fearful, because that was the main thing that worried the lone changeling.

Starfall looked at Kevin and decided that it was probably enough of scaring him. He had spend most of their conversation until now casting lie detection spells in secret, and using some light mind reading to figure out the changeling in front of him, and he didn't find anything to fault him for, other than his evil aligned race, and occasional feeding on love around the Town that he did in moderation to not make it noticeable. He also saw how Cranky Doodle once saved Kevin from drowning in a river, as he was lost in the woods after abandoning his hive.

In all honesty, Kevin would have probably been the first changeling to completely loose the need to suck love instead of Thorax, if he wasn't so isolated and distrustful of everypony, and actually went out to make friends.

As for his relationship with Cranky Doodle...Well, Starfall assumed that Cranky wasn't really much of a friend material and was more of a benefactor that Kevin could speak with freely, and as a mule, Cranky had significantly less magic than a regular pony. He still needed to confirm it, but he believed that what Changelings consumed wasn't literally love as a feeling, but magic that had been affected by positive emotions. Though who knows. For all he knew, changelings are a low budget version of dementors and boggarts from Harry Potter mixed together...

Starfall stood up and walked towards the changeling, who visibly shrunk in fear even though his stature was already smaller compared to a regular pony.

But to his surprise, Starfall patted his shoulder with a snort.

"Don't be silly Kevin. I'm not so prejudiced as to punish you for being yourself. I've observed you for a while and I can see that you simply want to live in peace, and you didn't commit any crime or anything like that.

Although I would still like it if you made sure you don't go around town with your disguise either growing or loosing wings, as it's quite the giveaway." Starfall pointed out but Kevin didn't listen, too confused about his current situation.

"You won't chase me away?" He asked in shock and Starfall shook his head.

"Nah. You don't hurt anypony, and I'd love to have you pay me a visit from time to time. I might not look it, but I'm an extremely curious pony and I'd love to learn more about your species. Plus, you already abandoned your hive, So you aren't a spy under the orders of Queen Chrysalis." He explained, stunning Kevin.

"H-how do you..."He asked and Starfall finished.

"How do I know? I know a lot of things Kevin. The question is, are you ok with coming by every now and then? I'd really want to make some research with you. Nothing dangerous of course. Maybe we could even become friends..." Starfall replied with a smirk, But he noticed the slightly disdainful expression on Kevin's face as he mentioned the last part.

"Changelings don't do "friends"..." Said the changeling looking away.

Right... It might take a while to really achieve something with Kevin.

In the end changelings were born from a mix of some mysterious tainted magical lake and a rotten acorn that grew into an evil tree cocoon... more or less... They were for all intents and purposes, creatures of darkness. It would take more than a few friendly words to change an outlook of even one, even if said changeling already made some progress in the matter on his own accord, thanks to a certain grumpy mule of all creatures...

Starfall though, just smiled at Kevin and didn't push him. The day for changelings to "change" was still a while away from happening and he would be patient, while trying to gently influence the distrustful swiss cheese...

That reminded him though, that an invasion of changelings was only a few weeks from happening, and he'd love for Kevin to give him some pointers in the upcoming battle...

"I-I thought you said you wont hurt me..." Kevin squeaked as he was levitated down the corridor of the Lab with his eyes covered, a few days after their meeting at Kevin's house.

"Oh don't worry so much! It's just to keep you from seeing where I'm taking you..." Starfall explained in exasperation.

"That's what's worrying me!" He screamed in his naturally high voice, making Starfall chuckle.

"I assure you, I have no reason to hurt you. After all, If I wanted to, I could have done it easily without all this trouble...Aaand were here. See! It wasn't so bad!" Starfall said as he settled Kevin on the ground and removed his blindfold.

Kevin looked around warily, noticing the white, eerily clean chamber with a bunch of weird tools scattered around, and a large magical formation in the middle permanently fused with the floor.

"What-Where are we?..." Asked Kevin, making Starfall smirk.

"What would be the point of telling you when I went to so much trouble to keep that information a secret? But I can tell you that it's my lab, a place where I do research about magic." He explained with amusement while the changeling tried to calm his breath. Funny how much of a scaredy cat he was being, but maybe that's because of him?...Nah...He isn't that scary...

"Fascinating! So I was right! Your feeding doesn't involve just the emotions, but magic saturated with the emotion that usually ends up being love. And as far as I can tell, you can induce the saturation, before absorbing the specially prepared magic...It's a bit like a spider, first melting it's prey from the inside and then sucking it out..." Starfall spoke to himself as he trotted around the changeling currently in the form of a cockatrice, as another cockatrice lied sprawled on the ground in exhaustion.

"Did it have to be a cockatrice though? Couldn't you test it on any other creature?" Asked Kevin after reverting back to his normal form and quickly stepping away from the creature...

"Sorry, didn't have any other living creature suitable for testing. I'm pretty sure you couldn't absorb a Timberwolf or a Parasprite, would you?" The stallion asked and Kevin agreed with him while internally being shocked at Starfall having those creatures stored away somewhere inside this place.

"But anyway, let's move to the next test, shall we?!" Starfall said with excitement, and Kevin flinched. It would be a while untill he gets used to this situation...

"Sugarcube! Are ya here by any chance?"Applejack asked as she walked into the lab, a light above the doors indicating an ongoing test.

She stopped in her tracks though as her eyes met with the sight of Starfall taking measurements of a pony sized banana...

For some reason she felt betrayed... Didn't Starfall love apples? Why would he make a giant Banana and not an apple then.

Regardless of her silly thought she approached the stallion who instantly perked up upon noticing her.

"Oh! Jackie!...What can I do for you." He asked cheerfully, and all her thoughts of him betraying the apple superiority disappeared as she smiled.

"Ah just wanted to tell ya that I'm leaving fer the Rodeo in a couple hours. I wanted to get nah lucky kiss." She winked and Starfall laughed before kissing Applejack on the lips and making her shudder in glee.

"Always Jackie." He smiled before giving her another chaste kiss. "Good luck on the rodeo. I'm sure you'll do great. And even if you somehow don't, remember that we love you, and you don't need to be perfect all the time." He said giving her a warm hug that she returned feeling warmth inside.

On the side, a certain banana was shaking from all the love that emanated from the duo, his instincts screaming for him to feed, but his survival instinct and common sense prevailed until Applejack left the premises.

only then did he revert back to his normal form.

"That was torture! Do you know how much your little interaction made me hungry!?" Kevin exclaimed to an amused Starfall.

"Oh please. You were a Banana. They don't need feeding." He joked and Kevin rolled his eyes in annoyance.

"I still don't get the point of that experiment." He added and Starfall grinned.

"Well. I wanted to test your ability to transform into something other than animals, and a banana felt like a good idea. Then I thought about making you change sizes and we ended up here." He explained And Kevin sighed. If any of his siblings saw him turn banana, he wouldn't live it down, like... ever...
