In an anime/manga store, Raven was living his dream, buying all his favorite characters' posters and figures. "My God, living a normal life is so much better than all that academy stuff," he thought.
Raven had always been an anime fan, a fan of everything drawn, anime, manga, or even manhwas. He had been a big fan for years. But after leaving for the academy, he stopped watching or even showing this part of himself. Now, since he was in the heart of anime, he was geeking out again.
He had been here for three days now, he had bought an apartment in Tokyo, and was living the dream: cultivating and watching anime. He was thinking of a way to attract people with abilities, but he couldn't find a way aside from doing something ridiculous. However, he didn't want to make enemies with them.
So, he decided to wait until he got a mission and then gather some information. He didn't have to wait long; a week later, he received his mission.
"You need to protect the daughter of a prominent family. She's coming to Japan to visit her parents. Your job is to escort her from the airport to her house, wait there for three days, and then take her back to the airport. Once she enters the airport, your job is done," explained a man on the phone.
Raven nodded, "Easy enough. Send me some pictures and information about the mission and the target," he ordered. The man did just that and sent him everything he wanted.
"Honoka Yamada.
32 years old.
Ability user.
Ability: Hawk Eyes.
Blah, blah, blah..."
Raven read through the information but lost interest after seeing the ability. It was one of those abilities that could easily be replaced through cultivation. Although most abilities could be replaced eventually, the more unique the ability, the harder it was to replace.
Raven took a Maybach car and rented a driver, then went to the airport. While waiting, he started reading the information he had received from another source. David had given him this source privately; it was an organization called "Heavenly Tower," specializing in information. It had information on nearly everything, including Raven himself. But what was essential was its information about ability users, giving Raven a clue about his target.
A beautiful woman walked out with a smile on her face. She had straight black hair and black eyes, the most beautiful Japanese woman he had met so far, with sharp eyes that had a line instead of a dot like most people.
Raven opened the car door, and she flashed him a smile as she entered. "So, you are the bodyguard they sent me?" she asked in perfect English.
Raven nodded, "Yes, Miss Yamada. I will protect you from now on," he replied politely. Yamada smiled, "Aren't you too young?" she inquired.
Raven didn't feel offended; he calmly smiled back, "Miss, you know abilities are mysterious. You might be surprised by what a kid could do, let alone a trained individual," he reminded.
"True. Where are your weapons?"
"Unfortunately, I can't bring weapons through airports," he explained. Yamada laughed, "You need to have a weapon. We can buy one here. Stop at this address," she ordered, giving Raven an address that he passed to the driver.
They stopped in an alley, and Raven and the woman walked in. They stood in front of an old shop with the name "Hawkeye" on the door. Raven entered, followed by the woman, and they saw an old man sitting there lazily. "Old man, wake up," she ordered.
The man immediately stood up upon hearing the voice. "Oh, young miss, it's been a while," he said.
"It's been a while indeed. We need a weapon," she explained. Then she turned to Raven, "What weapon do you use?" she inquired.
"A katana."
She was surprised but didn't dwell on it. The man laid out three swords in front of Raven: a yellow one, a black one, and a red one. Raven checked the swords and settled for the red one as it was the same size as his own and made of the strongest materials.
"How much is this one?" she asked. "It's 2 million, young miss," he announced.
She was about to pay, but Raven stopped her. "Please, Miss, don't embarrass me like that. I can't let people buy my weapons," he said and then took his card and scanned it. Taking the sword, they walked out. "What do you think of the weapon?" she inquired.
"It's good, better than what you can buy in the market."
"Hahaha, of course. This is my family's place. We're not the strongest, but we have good blacksmiths," she bragged. Raven smiled in response. They continued walking to the car and then drove away.
"So the Yamada young miss returns and with a bodyguard. We need to inform the master," said a ninja-like man on top of a building. His companion nodded, "Do you have any information about the guy she is with?"
"Yes, he is a student of the Phoenix Veil Society, a first-year student, nothing special."
"Report everything. We can't judge people by their looks in this day and age." They then disappeared.
Raven was aware of the two guys watching them, as he could see the auras of people. However, since both auras didn't seem dangerous, he chose to ignore them.
"We've been watched. I think they might attack soon," he informed Yamada.
Yamada sighed and took her phone to make a call. "I'll come tomorrow. I'll stay in Tokyo for the day," she informed her family. "Go to the suburbs. I don't want the fight to reach the family residence," she ordered.
The driver changed course and headed to the suburbs, with three cars following closely behind.
Raven put his hands on his sword and took off his jacket. "Miss, please stay in the car," he requested. As the car was still moving, Raven opened the door and jumped out.
He stood in front of the three approaching cars and unsheathed his sword. The three cars came to a halt, and a dozen people emerged, armed with various weapons, including guns. However, guns were useless against ability users, as anyone with skin strengthened to rank 1 was already immune to bullets.
"This will be fun. All their auras are white but close to mine," Raven observed.
Raven's eyes turned black as he deactivated his eye's ability. He didn't want to accidentally copy any abilities, as they often altered the user's appearance, and he was wary of acquiring some unusual ability.
