Chapter Two

I sat down outside my compound gate selling recharge cards and bulbs. There was this particular guy that has been going up and down the gate but I really didn't take notice of him. He's the new neighbor who moved in with his mom as I later got to find out.

Later on my cousin, Ene came around to keep me company.

She is the only one who I can confide in; she is my best friend, my greatest inspiration and the one who has been comforting me since my dad left and mum abandoned me to her self world.

"How is your mom doing? She asked

Hmm she's not fine oh. She still hasn't recovered from the heartbreak my dad made her go through. And you know the thing that pains her most is that she hasn't seen my dad this happy before the way he is with his mistress.

Men are just scum. Don't worry she'll get over it soon, she sounded encouraging.

I pray so oh because it's really weighing me down, I replied feeling dizzy.

'Gosh! This guy cute die' Ene said looking at the handsome guy standing in front of our compound gate.

I turned to look in her direction and found out it was the new occupant that moved in with his mom three days ago.

'He's heading here, Ene sounded excited arranging herself. She's got a freak for cute guys.

Cute or ugly, I really don't give a damn, they don't freak me. I've got much greater burden of saving for my school and fending for myself and mom.

"Hi ladies, I'm Onome" he said introducing himself

"I'm Ene and this is my cousin Khadijat" Ene said with smiles all over her face. My face was bent all through that. I wasn't used to these kind of conversation but Ene was an expert, so she engaged him in the conversation.

'I moved in here few days ago with my mom and I've been noticing your cousin. She's kinda quiet.

'Yeah she is. She's the shy type' Ene said still smiling.

"Alright see you around. Just came to say hi, Onome said

Take care bye.

Hey raise your head he's gone, Ene tapped me.

'Why did say I was shy? I asked her frowning my face

Are you not shy? Shy shy baby, she said teasing me.

I'm not! I said sounding protective.

But you were a while ago

We both laughed.

Her driver came to pick her and she left after hugging me

I waved till the car was out of sight and got back to my cards thinking of Onome.
