41: Are you human?

'What the hell did Dimitry see that made him look like this? Should I risk looking at the princess as well?'

Sui's head was pushed back down just as she was about to pick it back up.

The princess did not want to show Sui her face, so Sui was left guessing her mood based on her voice.

"Princess, your idea is-"

"I've changed my mind. Dimitry, take Sui with you and leave my sight right now. I will find you once I'm done dealing with the locals."

The princess replied, and Sui was finally allowed to pick her head up.

"That's my princess. I knew that you would use your new guard to…wait! What did you say again?"

Dimitry looked dumbfounded by the princess's answer.

"Huh? You want me to do what? Princess, tell me the truth! Have you been poisoned? Or has anyone threatened you? Or, are you sick? Is this a national emergency?"

Dimitry asked, only to be knocked back by the princess's dark look.

She left the corridor with a dumbfounded Dimitry and an unsure Sui behind.

Poor Sui, who had been left behind, did not know what to do with herself. Ultimately, she decided that she needed to go after the princess.

Dimitri recovered right in time to grab Sui before she could go after the princess.

Sui already had her knife out to gut, and Dimitri was on his guard against her.

"Hey, calm down. You heard the princess, right? I will be babysitting you for a little while. Oh! I should introduce myself to you, right? My name is Dimitry Hun, the financial officer of the Imperial Palace. It's nice to meet you, my junior Sui."

Dimitry's fake cheerfulness was back in full swing, but Sui did not trust a single word that came out of his mouth.

She debated what to do next when Dimitry placed his arm around her shoulder.

Sui reacted quickly and tried to get Dimitry's arm off her shoulder. But the man had more flexibility than Sui gave him credit for.

He could quickly evade Sui's attacks and still come out on top.

"Hey, don't be like this, my dear friend. You will break my heart if you continue to protest like this. Let your dear senior treat take you out and treat you."

Dimitry dragged Sui behind her.

'Is this man retarded? Or does he have some kind of personality disorder?'

Sui struggled to get out of Dimitry's grip, but he tightened his grip around Sui even more.

"Hey, don't go thinking if I have a multi-personality disorder or not. You are hurting my feelings as well."

Sui tried to mask her surprise, but she was not able to.

Dimitry took one look at her and busted out laughing.

"Oh! I was feeling down, but now I feel so much better. Let me guess! You are wondering whether I can read minds, right? I may or may not have this power."

Dimitry teased, causing Sui to feel frustrated.

'Well, which is it? Can you or can you not read minds? Is this a power shared by all royal guards? Will I develop this ability as well?'

"Hahaha, did you take my words seriously? I am just playing around with you. You have a very expressive body language. I'm good at reading body language, and you are easy to read."

Dimitry informed Sui, causing her to tense up.

The princess had said something like her before, which was the only reason Sui gave Dimitry's words any merit.

"So, what are we going to do now? Are we going to investigate in the meantime? Were you also the ones who read the reports sent to the princess?"

Sui asked in a curious voice.

Dimitry's sour expression returned.

"You know about the reports? Did you see them while cleaning?"

"No. The princess showed them to me while we were on our way here. Was I…not supposed to see them?"

Sui asked in a cautious voice.

She felt that Dimitry was restraining himself not to do something stupid.

"No! No, that's fine. If the princess showed those reports to you, then I have no room to complain."

Dimitry assured Sui in a strained voice, but it was clear he had been forcing himself to sound positive this whole time.

They walked a few more steps in silence before Dimitry could not take it anymore.

Sui blinked and took a few steps back as Dimitry quickly closed the distance between the pair.

His hand reached out toward Sui's face, and Sui knew she would not be able to dodge this attack.

'Shit! I let my guard down at the wrong time. How do I deal with this?'

Fortunately for Sui, Dimitry could not account for her height when he planned to pursue her.

Sui managed to slip past Dimitry's hand but barely.

She tried to reach for her knife, but Dimitry was paying attention to her.

A harsh smack of his chain caused Sui's knife to be knocked out of her hand, and a thick chain surrounded her wrist.

'Darn it! I don't think I can fight properly with my limbs tied up. I need to get my hand free at all costs.'

Sui bit her lip as she tried to escape the situation she had found herself in.

"Hey, don't look so cross with me, my lovely junior. I just want to check if you are human or not! How did you enchant our dear princess to favor you so much?"

Dimitry asked in a curious voice.

Everything about Dimitry looked normal except his eyes.

There was wonder and excitement in them, fear, and something more.

"I-I don't know what you are talking about. I…am a…human…"

Sui's face was getting squished by a pair of strong fingers. She tried to make Dimitry let go of her face, but the more she struggled, the harder he pushed.

'This shitty man! I am so done with his bullshit-!'

Sui was getting desperate for air, and her body decided to retaliate.

She gutted Dimitry in the stomach with her feet, and the man instantly left Sui's face alone.

Dimitry finally stepped back but did not look as elegant as before.
