Chapter Fifty-One
We arrived home in silence. It was a relief that he didn't utter a word because I had no desire to engage in conversation with him. As usual, he took charge of preparing our meal, while I sulked in the confines of my room. Why couldn't he simply let go? It would be a much simpler solution for both of us. No complications.
Or so I tried to convince myself. A contrary thought nagged at a corner of my mind. Yes, there were complications, undeniable ones. I knew I would end up heartbroken, but wasn't it the right path to take?
Soft taps on my door interrupted my thoughts, and I reluctantly opened it.
