New Devil In Town -2

Something had been messing with me for awhile after I had gone outside. Why was everything so vivid, the white was almost blinding. If it wasn't nighttime I don't know how I would be coping currently. Fortunately the moon was also at the end of its waning phase so there was less visible light then normal.

Usually planets have more than one moon and much more extreme climates. This world was quite similar to Earth in terms of climates and only having one moon. However tides on planets with multiple moons were wicked. Water exploration was slow and even then it didn't heed any reliable things of any experimental value.

Personally, I wonder why I even bothered coming to this hell hole in the first place. I'm pretty sure it was Claire who dragged me here. We both wanted to become closer and what better than to hike together? Although things didn't go to plan and she was sent to another sector. It was a lot less lively without her. I'm fortunate for her to not be with me though. Who knows what that thing might've done to her.

When I had woken up after having my chest torn open, which miraculously healed in the short time span of two days, that thing was gone. Wherever it had gone it was gone for good. At least I hoped. If I never saw that hideous creature again it would be too soon.

The white snow kept falling as the mountains came closer and closer together until they formed a narrow ridge on which to climb. I had long since past the cave giving it a wide berth as I passed it. I wanted to see what was left but I didn't know if that monster was still in there or not. Each handheld was slippery so i had to use my ice picks to stabilize myself and continue up to the peak. Each swing had to be correctly calculated as to not break the ice or hit at an angle causing the ice to crack or in a worst case scenario bounce off and go flying from your hand. Neither situation was pleasing so I focused on climbing.

After about ten minutes I almost made it to the top of the mountain. A small ledge allowed me to seat myself comfortably and take a few sips of water out of my thermos. The water would freeze quickly if not drunken fast enough. As I finished sipping the water my auto mapper pinged and showed that there were approximately 12 creatures at the top of this mountain.

I let out a sigh and took out my picks after I tucked my bottle neatly back into my pack. Proper weight distribution was crucial not only to climbing but to fighting as well. "Well here goes nothing."

I started climbing my way up the last stretch of mountain. I would usually be more fatigued but I was anything but right now. My speed, strength, and stamina have slightly improved. This must be a side effect of the system. I shook my head. No time to think about that now. I have a quest to complete.

When I peeked my head over the top my face lost all color. It resembled the snow as of now. There were over 10 wisps at the top of the mountain. Somehow one of the wisps noticed me peeking my head over and shot some kind of ice bolt straight into my cranium. I flew back off the mountain and crashed my way to the bottom. All of my bones were crushed, my spine had been snapped in half, and I had an ice bolt shot through my skull. My blood slowly oozed out onto the ground. Soft gurgling noises came out of my mouth as pain enveloped the top half of my body. The lower half couldn't be felt.

<All Memories Intact, Proceeding With Warp>

My mind went blank as it felt like I was bathing in peanut butter. That was the only thing I thought of that could describe the viscous sensation and liquid that my body was in. Everything slowed and I blacked out.

I woke up in the company's lodge, again? This time the pain sensation wasn't there. It was annoying but the wave of pain was like a tickle now.

<Pain Tolerance Leveled Up: Lvl 2>

"I level up?" I asked in shock. "And why did my skill level up even if the update is occurring. Something seems fishy." I say. The update was back at one percent. 'Damn, why'd I have to die.' I thought to myself.

From what I could get before my demise was that my system was at 12%. That was equivalent to about three and a half hours of walking time. Hm, does that mean if I sustain an injury bad enough then shouldn't I be able to go back into time to correct my errors?

I pondered this for a few moment s whilst I was still laying in bed. One thing I did notice was that the quest timer was still the same. "Well I'll be damned." I say to myself. "I'm positively fuc-" I was saying before I was rudely interrupted by my phone.

"Well, I guess I'd better get going now." I say getting my things together again.

*****

After 3 deaths I had made no progress whatsoever with the wisps. Every time I would peek my head over I would immediately be shot at. Even if I managed to dodge the shot they would all pierce me with ice spears made from the ice wall I was on and get pushed off the mountain.

The only good news I had received was level ups. I opened the menu to the system and another screen had popped up. It was a skill screen. It was directly under the help button. I focused on it and it opened.

<Welcome To The Skill Screen User, Here You Can Better Yourself By Using Skill Points Earned When Fighting Boss Mobs and/or Leveling up>

Made sense I suppose. But boss mobs? Those sounded like A class monsters to me. They were so dangerous it takes a whole group of A class and a few S class hunters to even come close to killing it.

Why is cooking a skill? Oh bother. I have more important matters. What's with that quickness skill though. Should I spend some of my precious points on it? If it helps me kill the wisps easier I suppose it couldn't hurt.

I poured 2 of my points into quickness. A short while after I noticed an improvement in speed and agility. I could now walk and run twice as fast as before and had much better reflexes.

"So this is the power of the system?" I said slowly beginning to smile.

Hi you beautiful people. I'm sorry this chapter was so late but I was quite busy. Sadly, there will only be one chapter tonight. However, this chapter is much longer than any of the previous ones. I do hope you enjoy.

If you guys could throw a few powerstones at me that'd be great. It would still be better than the headache I currently have lol.
