I woke up with a sack on my head and water dripping down my neck. My breathing picked up slightly at how cold the water was on my skin. "That was cold," I say, chuckling. A sudden blow to my ribs sent the chair I was tied to flying. My face and the wall exchanged numbers as they smushed together.
"Ouch, you mind?" I asked. It is better if I keep a cool head while dealing with whoever attacked me earlier. I don't want to end up dying over and over again, like I was fighting those wisps. Somebody propped my chair back up, and the sack covering my head was taken off. The room was dank and smelled like urine and other bodily secretions. I scrunched my nose, this was gross.
My eyes moved over to a man who looked to be in his mid-thirties. He was wearing a long trenchcoat and boots. Half his face was covered in a metal mask. It looked tribal. I smiled at him. "Hi, how're you?" I asked the man. "Also, you mind telling the person behind me to stop breathing so heavily. They're giving me anxiety." I said to the man. I heard the person behind me stop breathing for a moment. They shuffled slightly and walked to the other corner of the room.
The man looked me up and down. "What are you?" He asked. "What do you mean?" I asked. "That person over there had their presence concealed, not even our top rookies could've heard them. So, what in gods name are you?" He said.
I chuckled, "Something I don't even know myself." I knew I was a halfling but I never quite believed the system enough to ask. That was the wrong choice, I should've asked. Now, as I began to understand the system, I know that I did, change species.
The man looked at me with suspicion. "Check to see if he has a system." The man told the person in the corner. My heart skipped a beat. 'Welp, I'm screwed.' I thought as the person came from the corner towards me. They pushed my head to the side roughly and took something out of their pocket. Something forced its way into my neck. I wasn't sure if it was a needle, or what, but my heart was pounding hard.
There was a beep and the man looked over at me. His eyes lost their usual calm, cold stare and turned into one of worry. "Top tier." A woman's voice said.
The man was thinking that he was lucky catching a top tier off guard. Maybe he'd be spared their wrath if he begged for his life.
The woman shifted from foot to foot. 'Who is this guy? No wonder he could hear me.' She thought to herself.
After seeing their expressions and what the woman had said, finally clicking, I decided to see if I
could ask some questions. "Where am I?" I asked. The man looked up at this. "Wha... Ugh. A military academy. We are currently stationed next to it in a secure bunker." He said.
The man didn't want the boy to have any unnecessary details, but he also didn't want to die. The fact that a guy at his age can afford or even be able to handle the highest tier of the God System was unheard of.
"Military academy? Which one?" I asked, knowing that the man was withholding information from me. "The Aries Academy." The man said giving up, the kid saw past him.
My eyes widened. I was at the Aries Academy. The biggest military academy this side of the galaxy. "How'd you find me?" I asked. The man looked at his partner and she nodded. "The company that hired you had cameras installed in your lodge. After reviewing the tapes they saw you had a system. Or at least it had appeared that way with you zooming around. We were tasked with retrieving you and dropping you at the nearest academy for interrogation. Since you specified you didn't have a system on your contract it was immediately terminated and you were sent into our custody." The man explained.
"Okay, I get that. I only lied because I didn't want to get sent to one of the black planets." I said in response, lying of course. The man looked at me. "You are a kid after all." He said. "Your parents should've put you into an academy, especially with that top tier system. The real question's how did you manage to get one?" He said.
"Long story." I said, signaling that I wasn't going to talk about it. "You guys have any food around here. I'm famished." I asked.
