Lady Luck Hates My Guts -1

"Well that sucked." I say to myself. I hop out of bed and decide to take a shower and think. I walked toward the bathroom and something caught my eye. It was the med kit that I would raid before I left every time I journeyed up the mountain. I hadn't looked at what was inside it but what I just found gave me a feeling of pure undiluted joy. I laughed at how I had missed it. There was an adrenaline shot in there.

With this shot I could scale the mountain and take out at least 2 of the wisps. If I died it would be back in the med bag. And if the system works how I think it does I can finish this within a few hours.

I didn't bother packing anything except the picks, water, and the adrenaline shot. I glanced at the lodge. "I will be seeing you very soon room." I said smiling. I walked out the door and was hit with sudden gust of cold wind. I went through the snow like a plow and made it to the peak in record time. Without the pack I was much more maneuverable and could go much faster without the extra weight.

I approached the ice wall. My eyes placed themselves at the top of the wall. "I can do this." I told myself. I swung out the ice picks and started my ascent. I reached the ledge that I was able to sit on and took a break. I drank a few sips of water and looked out at the landscape. It truly was a sight to behold. I could see the shelters and a few military buildings as well as the other mountain range. It was quite odd my eyesight had vastly improved. Not to mention my reflexes felt the fastest they have ever been. I suppose that this was the systems doing. Were the clouds always this beautiful, or was this the first time I truly saw them on this planet?

I shook that thought from my head and stood up. I hooked the canteen to one of my back belt loops. My picks found their way to my hands. I resumed my ascent to the peak. Each pick strike brought me closer to my goal. Each strike brought me closer to figuring out what the hell all of this was.

I eventually reached my usual point of death. The place where I would usually peek my head over and get shot to oblivion. Using a lot of my strength I held myself up with only one arm and popped the cap on the adrenaline shot. I stuck it straight into my leg and everything seemed to slow. At this I exploded up and over the ledge. Four ice spikes were flying at incredibly high speeds towards me. I smiled at how slow they seemed.

Spears appeared from under me and I deftly dodged. As I suspected they couldn't change direction or that would have been quite problematic. I pushed my self towards the nearest wisp and sliced at it. As soon as it saw me slash it tried to dodge but ended up getting clipped by the pick. Its orb shape flickered for a moment as it paused for a moment. This was all I needed and swung the pick down and onto the wisp.

I had no time to read the pop up prompt and I quickly dashed my way towards two wisps and cleaved them both in half.

Spears and spikes encroached upon me from all sides. I smiled, this was absolutely exhilartaing. I should have been a hunter. The spikes were too fast and had too much momentum to hit but I was able to smash my way though the spears. After realizing this everything seemed to make more sense. I smiled, these things were in danger and they knew it.

After about 3 minutes of fighting my adrenaline shot had worn off and I was worn out.

<EXP 130/50> Would You Like To Level Up?>

[Yes][No]

"Yes." I said tired. There was one wisp left. It was smart enough however to keep its distance.

<Level Up Achieved, What Point Would You Like To Receive?>

[Skill][Attribute]

'Wait I have to choose.' I thought as the last bolt came at my head. I dodged it but just barely. I was done with this and threw my pick at full force and sliced the poor thing in two. I didn't even have a chance to dodge.

"Skill." I responded after sitting down.

<Skill Point Granted>

I heard a ding and a quest completed menu popped up. I sighed in relief. I suppose I could die another day. I looked at the rewards. A planterium dagger. Wow, those were quite expensive. Even if I worked every day for the rest of my life I would not be able to afford it.

I focused on the complete quest button and a prompt came up.

<Time Left Before Quest Failure: 1:13:20.22, Early Completion Reward Granted.

Due To Killing More Than The Required Amount Of Enemies Reward Upgrade Has Been Granted>

<Items Added To Inventory>

I looked around. No wonder the wisps liked it up here. It was really windy. I looked at my new HUD display. The update had completely revamped the old looking system. Now it had everything one might need to explore the galaxy. From star maps to planetary maps. I was impressed. This system was amazing. I opened my inventory and my eyes fell on what used to be the dagger. It was now a sword. Swords almost triple in value compared to the dagger. While plantarium was not the strongest alloy it could cut through steel and most lower level monsters with ease. The fact that I had a sword like this meant I could hunt pretty much everything on this planet freely without worry.

There were a bunch of new icons. From the inventory to the mini map toggle everything was in place to be used accordingly. I had a feeling I was going to have quite an interesting quest ahead of me. I chuckled and laid back on the ice and let the breeze bathe me.
