22 If Only Learning New Languages Was This Easy

Getting off the ground with a splitting headache Kasdeya cradled her head in her small and white hands as her tail drooped over the ground. She stayed in this position for a minute while the pain in her head slowly died down and only after it had reduced to a dull ache did Kasdeya notice some major changes that this evolution brought.

Kasdeya tried cycling her mana through her body and realised that it was considerably easier than before. She also had a bunch of new knowledge in her brain about runes which she instinctively knew how to apply.

Kasdeya then raised her right arm in front of her and gazed at her still chalk white arm and upon close inspection noticed very faint runes that marked her skin that were a shade darker than the rest of her body.

Following her newly gained instinctual knowledge Kasdeya then cycled her mana into the tip of her finger while manipulating it's properties and the end of her finger started to give off an almost imperceptible glow. This was caused by the runic attribute mana being condensed there which she could then use to carve runes into an object.

'Lets try this out.'

Crouching down Kasdeya picked up a random rock on the ground and focusing her runic mana into the tip of her claw she carved a basic rune into a rock that was the translation of condense.

'So, to create and use a rune, first I have to create the required rune using runic mana, then activate its effects using normal mana. Seems simple enough.'

The rune only consisted of a few lines and she didn't do a very good job at carving it but she finished the rune and tapped it with her finger, channelling some normal mana into the stone which caused the rune to glow slightly and the rock to condense, increasing its hardness but decreasing its size.

'Wow, now this right here is actual magic, and it seems I'll need to practice this a bit more if I want to get better at it. This rune seems to harden an object by condensing its mass, which makes sense considering its the runic translation of condense, so this could come in handy later if I want to start making stuff. I will definitely need to experiment with these runes though as all this evolution really gave me was a runic translation of a few simple words I know, but I still need to see how they join and interact with each other, like I was given the fundamentals of a language with enough knowledge to get by but I'll need to explore and learn on my own if I want to know more. So if I really want to benefit from this I'll need to experiment and make my own runes. This sorta reminds me of programming software, I get taught the basics and from those basics I need to discover more things and combine them to make something.'

Walking back to where she had placed the technomancer core Kasdeya picked it up and channelled some mana into it in order to activate it now that she had accomplished the criteria.

[Would you like to assimilate with the Technomancer Core?]

"Yes."

[Requirements met:

Rank 3 evolution (complete)

Capability to wield a magic language (complete)

Understanding of technology (complete)]

Bracing for the oncoming pain, as everything to do with genetic enhancement seemed to hurt, Kasdeya watched as the runes in the core started to glow brighter and brighter and she noticed that she could feel warmth from the core which was steadily increasing.

Suddenly the core turned into a ball of transparent red light and seeped into the palms of Kasdeya's hands as she felt a foreign energy seep through her arms and travelled to her brain before merging into her. Immediately after the energy disappeared a flood of new knowledge on the application of runes and its practical combination with technology flooded into her brain causing her to suffer a wave of dizziness.

After the temporary nausea Kasdeya couldn't stop a massive grin from forming on her face and her tail curved up behind her and swished from side to side. Her demonic appearance and wide grin added with the fact that she was covered in blood from her recent massacre made for a very creepy image.

'Now this is a massive win, the technomancer core has given me quite a lot of practical theory in the application of runes and some information on one or two more advanced runes. Now I want to try some of this out.'

Crouching down on the ground Kasdeya started to sketch a slightly more complicated rune and after five minutes of careful work she stood up to admire her work. It was awful.

'...That probably could've gone better but lets see if this thing works.'

Kasdeya then pressed her foot onto the side of the formation and channelled some mana into it, causing it to start sputtering with a dull light with some places remaining completely dark before the rune completely faded and didn't activate anymore.

'...I refuse to let this get me down. I guess I'll just spend the next day or so practicing accurately drawing runes.'

So following this idea Kasdeya got dressed and then started scratching numerous formations into the ground with various effects while trying to make her creations as perfect as possible.

Meanwhile a shadowy figure stepped through the small gate in the city that had still yet to be closed and immediately sank its consciousness into the surrounding darkness spreading out its perception ability greatly.

"Found you."

Following this brief statement the shadowy figure completely sank into a nearby shadow and instantly transported itself near its target while remaining hidden.

Upon seeing what appeared to be a young female demon the creature was puzzled as it looked like the white demon was playing around in the dirt and occasionally jumping around and cheering while other times looking very depressed, however, understanding the demon was not the shadows job, so it followed its orders and inspected her.

[Level: 1

Race: Runic Devil]

Shocked, the shadow had to recheck the information three times before it believed what it saw, to which it immediately transported itself back to the gate before emerging from the shadows and stepping through the gate again.

Upon arriving back in its masters castle it immediately headed to the throne room and found the Lord of Greed already sitting on his throne and waiting for its report.

"Speak." Demanded the Lord of Greed.

"I located the demon in question and inspected her status." Replied the shadow.

"And?"

"She is a noble demon as the imp stated."

"Why don't I know of her then? If one of the other Demon Lords had a child then they would be holding a grand celebration."

"That would be because she is not the child of one of the Lords."

"What? Explain."

"She is a Devil, it seems after 500 years another Devil has finally appeared, which confirms your suspicions, the previous Devil has died. Also, she is low level and appears to have only come into being recently, so if you play your cards right you could recruit her to your side. Having a Devil under your command will greatly increase your influence after all."

"The previous Devil died? Good riddance, he caused nothing but loss and heartache to me and to others, playing as many games as he did, it would only be a matter of time before he died. And you mentioned this new Devil was low level? I think I just stumbled across a new prize. This new Devil will be mine, and to make sure there are no mistakes I will go personally this time."
