Evolution 3.0

Quickly finishing up with the yeti and keeping the pelt, Kasdeya continued to trek through the snow. The blizzard was still rampaging and she had no intention of remaining exposed for long periods of time, plus, after remaining in this storm for a length of time, the cold was starting to bother her, so she moved forwards while hoping to stumble across some natural shelter of some kind.

While she was navigating the storm, she decided to check her evolution options, since there wasn't much else to do. She didn't want to evolve out in this weather due to it being unsafe, but that didn't mean she couldn't choose her evolution early.

[Name: Kasdeya Votumea

Race: Runic Devil

Gender: Female

Age: Ageless

Level: 25

Strength: 60

Endurance: 77

Soul: 108

Luck: 3

Assignable Points: 7

!EVOLUTION AVAILABLE!]

'Ok, let's see what I've got.'

[EVOLUTION OPTIONS:

Runic Locus Devil

Greater Runic Devil

High Demon of Gluttony

Captiome Devil

High Demon of Lust]

'... This joke is getting old… Though there are more devil options to choose from this time, so I guess the longer I remain a devil, the more likely I am to lose my choices to become another kind of demon, though I'm perfectly ok with that as I don't exactly want to give up my devilish physique.'

[Runic Locus Devil:

Superimpose space]

'Right, cause I definitely know what that means.'

[Greater Runic Devil:

A devil with greater mastery of runes]

'Ah, this is the evolution I was expecting. I assume that this one would make my runes stronger and probably also make me magically know a few more.'

[[High Demon of Gluttony:

A higher existence than a simple demon of gluttony. These demons crave food above all else and will stop at nothing to get a good meal, they can eat almost anything and possess extraordinary strength. These demons can extract soul through consumption and have the potential to evolve into a Demon Lord of Gluttony.]

'I'm starting to get curious about what this whole soul extracting stuff is as all of the demons of sin seem to have a unique way to 'extract soul'. There is also a soul stat detailed in the status menu, so maybe that has something to do with it.'

[Captiome Devil:

A devil that utilises traps and tricks to end the existence of others.]

'Slightly ambiguous explanation like always but at least this evolution clearly states that it will focus on traps. Recently, I have been utilising attack methods which could be counted as using traps but I don't really want to focus on it. So, if I automatically scratch the two evolutions which aren't devils, that leaves Greater Runic and Runic Locus. Originally I wanted to pick whatever evolution would give the best benefit to my runes, which would typically point to Greater Runic but, from the name of the other option, I'm now not so sure. I have no idea what 'locus' means but this option also has runic in the name so I assume it, at the very least, buffs runes in some way. Additionally, the description of superimposing space sounds a little exciting. Hmm… I guess I'll just mull over it and choose one when I get to shelter.'

As Kasdeya walked, she could feel the temperature continue to drop, to the point where she was starting to get worried about turning into a popsicle when, suddenly, looming out of the snow, was an incredibly large rock with a convenient cave dug into the side.

Praising her replenished luck, Kasdeya proceeded to start jogging inside, but before she could enter, another yeti lunged out from the entrance. Dodging to the side again, Kasdeya spent a second to note that side dodges seemed to be the best action to avoid danger, while the yeti disappeared into the storm.

Using her flaming bone sword to lure the yeti back, she prepared herself for the telltale movement. The yeti sprinted at her from the side, aiming to tackle her, but was met with a flaming sword which cut a gouge out of the yeti's side. Roaring in pain, it sprinted back into the snow, blending in once again.

Kasdeya spent a few minutes waiting for it to run at her again but, after waiting a while, it never returned.

Turning around, Kasdeya decided to inspect her new temporary abode and, upon entering it, she was immediately satisfied with the wind and snow no longer pelting her.

The cave was larger than she originally assumed, having enough room for three yetis to sleep in comfortably, which equated to a lot more than three people and the stone walls did a relatively decent job of keeping out the worst of the cold.

'Now that my immediate concerns are solved, the current question is if I should evolve now.

From the past two evolutions, I've learnt that, once an evolution is chosen, there are a few requirements which need to be met, so I may as well check as to what they are. In regards to the two choices, I think I want to pick Runic Locus Devil, as the comment about space intrigues me. As much as I don't like staking my future on unknowns, I've practically been doing nothing but that since my reincarnation, so let's go for it.'

[Evolution Requirement:

Manipulate a spatial construct (complete)

Be anchored within a reality (complete)

Soul level of 115 or greater (incomplete)

Runic knowledge (complete)]

'... what?... I'm sorry, who? How? When? What spatial construct was manipulated by me? I think I'd have a very clear understanding of any time when I manipulated a 'spatial construct,' so what the heck is this? When did this happen? How did it happen? Oh well, it's a good thing for me anyway so I won't dwell on it. Now I just need to add a few points to soul. Which gives me a remainder of… no points.'

[Evolution Requirement:

Manipulate a spatial construct (complete)

Be anchored within a reality (complete)

Soul level of 115 or greater (complete)

Runic knowledge (complete)

Requirements completed, would you like to evolve now?]

'Well, what are the chances of my life being threatened while evolving in a cave which I just forcefully evicted the owner from? So there's no reason not to go for it. Yes.'

I was thinking of increasing my average word count from 1000 to 2000, as when their is chapters like this one, 1000 words isn't enough to cover a brief topic then start on another so it just results in stretching out something way to much. But then it occured to me that trying to commit to writing 2000+ word chapters a week along with keeping up with life is not going to be manageable, so I scratched the idea. Though let the records show that it was considered... and will never be considered again.
