You Can't Hide The Truth

I woke up to a shrill, sharp ringing which brought me out of my sleep almost as fast as I had gotten into it. Irritatedly, I squinted around the room. I partly smiled to see that Red was still curled up on me, but it was bittersweet to gently take her off me and put her on her side of the bed. When the mission of getting her off me without waking her up was accomplished I looked at my nightstand, picked up my phone, got up, and headed towards the balcony.

It was around four o'clock in the morning and Carter was calling me. Nothing could be this important to where this fucker has to call me at four o'clock... but whatever. I pick it up anyways.

"You know, if I knew you'd end up wanting my body this badly I would've just spent the night at your house."

Carter scoffs in reply.

"Shut up and listen asshat, I've got some news about your girl."

"The orange haired one I was talking about?"

Carter pretends to almost fall out of his chair considering all of the noise he's now making and speaks up with sarcasm dripping everywhere.

"Nooooooo! I'm talking about the blue haired girl with the split tongue. Who the hell else do you think I'm talking about numb nuts?!"

I sigh and pinch the bridge of my nose, deciding to be patient with Carter.

"I'm just gonna act like you're not giving me attitude so I don't have to reach my hand through the phone and physically slap the fuck out of you. So continue."

"Anyways, I called to tell you that your chick might be dangerous. I managed to pick up a little bit of information on her and the only thing I could find was that she's on the wanted list for the Demon Hunters Association. She also had something to do with the death of her parents. Don't trust her so easily Alex."

My face scrunches up with confusion as I try to process everything I'm being told.

"What would the DHA want with her? The only things those guys hunt down are-"

Before I could finish my thought, a large crash sounded throughout the house and a lot of shuffling could be heard. What in the world was that? I turned back towards the balcony door and peered through the window to see that Red wasn't in bed. Alarms were going off in my head as I turned my attention back to Carter.

"Dude what's going on? Do you need me to come over? It sounds like trouble."

"Nah I'm fine, go on ahead and continue doing whatever you were doing before this. I'll call you back later, but thanks for the info Carter."

With that I hung up on him and frantically shoved my phone in my back pocket. I wasn't thinking clearly, as a matter of fact, the only thing that I could think about was what I was going to do to whoever was in my house if they were hurting Red, yet little did I know that I was oh so wrong.

I burst back into my apartment, searching all over for Red. She wasn't in the kitchen, the bathroom, and she sure as hell wasn't in the living room. The front door hadn't been opened either, so there was only one other place that she could be...and that was the second bedroom. There were a thousand questions in my head, but the main one was how did she even manage to find her way into that room. It had a ton of locks on it, so I repeat, how the hell did she even manage to find her way into that room?

I rush down a long hallway towards the second bedroom, to find that the door is wide open. This room was secret because it had pictures of my family before their deaths, it had VHS tapes, cameras, CDs, and boxes filled overflowing with stuff that belonged to my family. As well as certain drawings of things connected to my past that I was still trying to figure out. They were all memories of what I had, and I rarely went in this room because I'd get unnecessarily emotional when it came down to my family.

I stop in the doorway when I see Red's orange haired frame standing in the middle of the darkness of this room with her back to me. She was looking at the pictures of my family, and the pictures next to it, which were drawings of a mysterious female with orange hair, red eyes, and black demon horns. I sighed with relief when I saw that she was okay, but my eyes looked down to see that the locks that were once on the door were now broken on the floor. My eyebrows creased when I looked back to her and heard sniffling.

"Red, what's wrong? How'd you break these locks? And.. are you crying?"

Something was oddly off, a side of me wanted to comfort her. I took a step towards her. Red flinched as she screamed out.

"Don't come near me Alex! You're gonna hate me, I shouldn't have entered your life! I'm the reason you are the way you are now and I'm so sorry.."

I stopped and dropped my hands to my side.

"Red... what're you talking about? Talk to me, nothing could be this bad."

At least, that was what I thought, until she turned towards me and stepped into the light of the rising morning sun that was shining through the window in the room. Red was crying, but my heart dropped when I completely took notice of her appearance. Orange hair. Blood red eyes. Black demon horns. My eyes shot over instantly to the pictures drawn of this exact girl and everything clicked into place. The reason she was being hunted, the reason she was kept on lock down, the reason her files were so secretive. She's the demon that started it all. She's the demon that I've been trying to hunt down for years. My brain was going numb as she started walking towards me.

"Alexander look! I know how bad this seems but at least let me explain..!"

"DON'T!"

I screamed out furiously, my blood started to boil, and the whole room was filled with a blinding white light.
