Affinities

Today was the day that we were to discover our affinity for magic. I couldn't help but feel anxious as I sat there, pondering about what type of affinity I wanted. The possibilities seemed endless.

Leo nudged me, snapping me out of my thoughts. "What are you doing just sitting there, let's get going."

"I don't know what affinity I want," I replied.

"Don't worry about it, just be grateful for the opportunity to find out," Leo said.

We walked to school with excitement building up inside us. As we entered the classroom, a strange figure appeared. Their presence was ominous, and I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease.

"Hello class," the enigmatic person said with a soft voice. "This is Scarlett. She will be awakening your dominant elemental affinity. Who wants to go first?"

Zion quickly volunteered and walked down to Scarlett. She placed her hand on his head and closed her eyes. "Heaven's above call on this man's power and show him the light."

Zion fell to his knees, gasping for air. After a few moments, he stood up, and it was evident that his abilities had been awakened. Scarlett revealed that his dominant affinity was fire magic, the hardest to awaken.

Leo glanced at me and raised his hand to which he was called on by Scarlett. He ended up being earth user. Myra was a poison user, Rayne was a clairvoyance user which is said to be the most versatile out of all affinities, Enzo's affinity ended up being earth magic which suits him for how dense he is. Jack was air, Rome was blood, Levi was dark magic, Ezra ended up being fire magic like Zion, Remi got light and Isla got life magic. Now it was time for my to step up and get myself tested.

Finally, it was my turn. I stepped forward, ready to find out my affinity. Scarlett placed her hand on my head and closed her eyes. "May the elements reveal themselves to this young one."

I felt a rush of energy flowing through me. It was as if the elements were dancing within me, trying to find their place. Scarlett opened her eyes and looked at me with surprise. "Your dominant affinity is light magic."

I was ecstatic. Light magic was said to be one of the purest and most powerful types of magic. As I sat back down, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to discover my affinity, however at first glance Scarlett looked pale.

Her eyes darted around the room, her lips pursed tightly as she tried to hide her apprehension. But I could tell that something was off, something was bothering her. What was it? What had she discovered during the readings?

"Scarlett, don't lie to me," I said, my voice firm. "Your face is pale and you look terrified."

She tried to force a smile, but it only made her look more uneasy. "No... I'm just getting tired from the readings, it takes a lot out of me."

I narrowed my eyes, studying her carefully. Was she telling the truth? Or was there something more to it?

"Fine, go home and get some rest," I said, my voice dismissive. I couldn't waste any more time on this, I had spells to learn.

As I walked home, my mind was still racing with questions. What had she found in my body? Was there something wrong with me? My heart was heavy with unease, but I tried to push it aside.

When I finally arrived home, I eagerly flipped through the pages of the handbook, studying each spell carefully. There were so many to choose from, but I was determined to master as many as possible.

But as I read, my mind kept wandering back to Scarlett's expression. What was she hiding? What secrets had she uncovered?

Lost in thought, I barely noticed when Remi appeared at my doorstep.

"Hey Sora," she said, a smile on her face. "What are you doing?"

I looked up at her, my mind still preoccupied. "I was just reading through the spells in the handbook."

"Oh, that's cool," she said, her eyes lighting up. "I was wondering if you wanted to learn spells together. We're both light users, after all."

I hesitated for a moment, still lost in my own thoughts. But then I nodded, a smile creeping onto my face. "Yeah, that sounds great. It'll be nice to have someone to struggle through this with."
