The whooping sound travelled further and further until the object was no longer in sight.

"Do you think we did it correctly? Wasn't it meant to travel in a circle and come right back?"

Aiden looked at his brother. "I don't know, Shawn. I think we did it right. Besides, we're the only ones at the top of the hill. I guess we should give it some time. Dad didn't say how long boomerangs took to come back so we should probably wait a little longer."

They sat down and waited for a long time until their stomachs started rumbling. Shawn looked at his big brother with a sad frown. The sun was setting and it was almost dinner. Their mother would be mad if they didn't come home on time but the boomerang was still not back.

"Brother, should we go home and wait for the boomerang to come back tomorrow? Mommy is going to be angry if we're late for dinner. Maybe the boomerang got lost so it's taking a while."

Hearing that, Aiden sighed and got up. "I guess we'll come back again tomorrow. I can't believe that boomerang didn't come back. Dad must have lied to us again. Let's ask him about it over dinner."

Shawn agreed and they held hands while running back home.

"You're finally back! We have a friend waiting for you since afternoon," their father grinned.

"A friend?" Shawn asked and looked at Aiden in confusion.

The father grinned and pulled out the boomerang that the brothers spent waiting for all afternoon. "See? It came right back, didn't it? Made a full circle from home and back again. Isn't it magical?"

The boys exchanged glances and laughed at how silly they were waiting for the boomerang to return all day. From the kitchen, their mother only shook her head with a fond smile on her face as she announced that dinner was ready.
