Ch 3:Final Selections

'This old man really is loud...'I stare into the sky as clouds pass by slowly.

Right now, I am surrounded by trees and snow. I helped an old man when he tripped and fell on his way to his home.

Kicking my legs about on the patio, he came and sat down next to me.

"Here, a token of my appreciation for helping me."

He hands a crimson fox mask, one side with a flowy texture and had a lighter shade of red-orange as it covers one eye. I took it and admire the handiwork of it.

The wood was light yet sturdy as I knock on it. The colours were vibrant yet kept simple as the black was painted near the closed eyes.

"Thank you..."I adjust the mask onto my face.

"How do I look?"I turn to look at him for his opinion as he stood up and ruffle my hair.

"Great, now you best be on your way, this old man had enough work for one day."He went back inside to his house.

I got up and walk towards the village at the end of the forest,smiling like a kid who just received their Christmas present early although the mask covered it up.

Walking for a few more days,I finally reached Fujikasane Mountain.

I look around to see many other people although only two boys and a girl caught my eye.

One had light pinkish hair while the other two stood next to him, having black hair.

'Wow such a nice colour,the others had black and brown like me..'I sigh internally.

It was then the person in charge came and explain the rules.

1.Survive 7 nights here

2.No outside aid

3.There would be demons surrounding the area when we step into the boundaries where the wisteria trees were not grown.

'Eh, the demons here shouldn't be a problem.'I thought to myself as they finish up explaining.

We then step into the boundaries of the mountain.

The first night had everyone in scrambles, they were running about like headless chickens.

Honestly, if I haven't killed the demons chasing them they wouldn't be here.

Right now I am following the two boys from before, the girl had gotten separated from them earlier on.

The pink-haired one seems to be more experience than the black one. As he continues to put himself in harm's way to rescue other people.

I crouch down onto a tree branch,slicing a demon head off when they tried to sneak attack me.

"Tch, annoying."I flick the demon's blood off from my blade and sheathe it.

It was then a voice caught my attention.

"Giyuu!"The pink hair boy rush to kill the demon.

'So blacky is called Giyuu?'

He had an injury from another demon when he finishes the battle.

"Sabito! Thanks."Sabito lends his hand to help Giyuu up.

'This is kind of boring though, the demons here are weak..'I look around to see if there's any demon left.

I decided to leave the two boys alone as I scout for more demons left in the forest.

The next few nights came and went.I hop from tree branch to tree branch before hearing a scream.

I flinch at the noise. Looking in the direction from where I last heard, I can see the two boys again.

Listening in, Sabito told another person to help Giyuu as he was injured and rush to the cause of the noise.

I sigh as I follow him, hoping he does not do anything rash to injury himself.

The demon there had multiple hand limps over his body, covering his face too.

"Ew...definitely not a good look."My disgust was hidden under my mask.

The demon chuckled at the sight of Sabito's fox mask.

"Another disciple of that damn Sakonji Urokodaki."

The demon strikes first before letting Sabito do anything. His arms multiply and extend his reach towards the now armed person.

He agility dodged the arms went for a swift beheading.

"!"

I quicken my pace and launch myself off from the tree trunk.

Time seems to slow down as the sound of a blade snapping in half can be heard.

My speed increases as I propelled myself toward, tackling him from getting his head smashed.

"Ugh.."I wince at the pain when I slam into his body.

"Stay here, dumbass."Sabito look at me as I did said wrong to him.

'Messy landing but whatever.'I thought as I unsheathe my katana.

The demon looks at the almost similar fox mask that I was wearing.

"Ugh another brat of Sakonji Urokodaki."

I tilt my head to the side, confused.

"Never heard of him."I sprint towards him.

'Fast!' Was all the demon could think of.

The demon went on defence mode as I circle him, looking for a weak spot.

He then launches his arms at me, I countered by jumping on them going right for the head.

'Lava breathing,first form:Lava Fissure!'

I slash at his neck, my blade growing hotter and hotter, launching hot lava at him.

The ground beneath him also started to crack and hot gas coming from the cracks.

The smell of sulfur filled the air around.

Launching myself off from his arm at the last second, the ground cracks open to reveal fresh magma rushing out to cover his body. His body was blasted with magma, covering every body part.

From my first attack, his eyes were covered in lava and were stunned.

The second attack came in as the lava from the first attack cooled and solidified.

"Arghh!!"He stumbled and crash onto the ground, trying to get the lava off his body.

He then came to a standstill. He now was a statue of molten rock, laying on the ground.

I sigh as I sheathe my katana. I walk back into the cover of darkness when Sabito grabs my shoulder with a surprised look.

"Yes? Make it quick, I don't have all day."I cross my arms as I turn my body to look at him.

"Um..Thanks.."

"Don't mention it."I nod my head before hopping onto the tree branches and slipping into the darkness of the forest.

Sabito just stood there with a blank look on his face as I got smaller from his view.
