Chapter 4: The truth of the homunculus

"What do you mean by th-"

"We have arrived!"

We stood in front of a large door. The door was not only large but beautiful as well, there were parts of it that were made of gold. The handle also seems to be sculpted by a master craftsman as well. No matter how you look at it, this was definitely room for very important people.

"This is my room. Remember it okay? If you went out then you must remember to return here."

"Okay."

"Let's continue our conversation inside."

She led me into the room. Did I say room? I mean a very large room. To call it a room is an understatement, my bedroom is a room. This? This is more of a small villa if anything. Large spacious space filled with decorations that could cost an arm and a leg back on earth. Crystal chandelier, Gold plated mirrors, beds fitted with jewelry and many more. This is most definitely a heaven on earth.

"Why are you standing there for so long? Hurry up and sit down."

"Sorry."

"Let's continue our conversation. Wait a bit, okay?"

She mumbles something that I don't understand, at the same time her body starts to glow. That's scary as hell! Fantasy novels don't prepare for this kind of thing at all. I would guess she is currently using some kind of magic, but do you really need to glow your whole body like that? I think anyone would be expected to accept some kind of mystical stuff if they are transferred to another, but this is really surreal.

"It's safe to talk now, heroes are always under so it's better to be safe than sorry."

"Is it going to be dangerous?"

"It's more blasphemy if it's in this country, this is The Holy Country after all. The Royal family of this country has a close relation with the church. Who knows? You might be missing tomorrow morning if you talk bad about the church."

"Are we going to insult the church?"

"I'll let you judge it yourself. Where should we start? Let's begin at the end of the 200 years war. After the war ended, the human kings and the church were left humiliated by the six heroes. They started a propaganda campaign against the six heroes and tried to change the history into a cleaner one where the human race reigned supreme. The fact that the six heroes weren't all human disappeared from people's memories and the world returned to how it was back then. After all, no matter how strong you are, the six heroes only consisted of six people. The holy knight founded the hero kingdom Viritia and gained the support of all human countries. But in the backstage, the kings and the church were jealous of the holy knight."

"I see, so they attacked him and his kingdom behind his back while supporting him in front?"

"Exactly, in the end their best case scenario is successful. While the six heroes are still regarded as heroes, they are heroes that the church wants."

"How does this relate to me being an actual human?"

"As I said, homunculus creation technique is already lost in time. It's never been confirmed but I think it's probably a gift."

"If so, then how am I created?"

"The church doesn't have the capability to create homunculus. But they still need the image of one, this is because the image of the legendary six heroes is too strong even though it has already been distorted. Luckily the holy kingdom support slavery, they believe slavery is an adequate punishment to repay heavy sins sinners have done."

If this is true, then there is only one possibility right?

"You are a human born from human parents. For unknown reasons, you became a slave, brought into a church and they erased your memory to create a homunculus."

What…? All my knowledge about the world is wrong and I am not a homunculus but someone who is taken advantage of by the church? I won't forgive them!

Is what probably I would say if I am an actual resident of this world, luckily I am not. If I am, my mind is probably broken by now as my whole world collapse upon me, I wonder if thoese homonculus has any kind of education given? But this problem is indeed shocking, the church is an evil entity but there's no one that can stop them, it might be pretty dangerous if they realize I actually have not been brainwashed. The strongest ally that the world has is actually a villain? That's harsh. I would say the best course of action is probably to lay low for a while and don't attract the church attention.

"Thank you for telling me… But why are you telling me this?"

"I came from Viritia, my kingdom doesn't support slavery. I can't do anything right now but I will promise to you, If we made it out then I am going to try my best to restore your memory. I will also free you and help you find a residency in Viritia if you want."

"Are you also going to tell this to the other girl?"

"Which one?"

"Did you forget already? The other homunculus that is picked randomly."

"Oh yes, her, of course."

She definitely forgot. I thought she said she is the strongest mage, can you be a great mage with a bad memory?

"I have another question."

"Sure."

Gold mine! If she is the descendant of the six heroes then doesn't it mean that my safety is already ensured. I had doubts about you but I am sorry! I underestimated you!

"Can you tell me what are we going to do next? What are we fighting against in the war?"

That's a long sigh. We are going to war after all, it's going to be dangerous and I could understand the reluctance.

Is it really okay calling him fat bastard, isn't he your own king? It seems the family of heroes has fallen huh? I guess things don't last forever no matter how noble your origin could be.

"Anyway, in this war I want the minimum amount of casualties. You hear that? Keep the casualties, if possible none! But as I am a realistic person, we should at least aim for the minimum."

"Okay."

"You don't understand do you? What I meant is I don't want you to die. This is an order okay, you can't die."

Is this another misunderstanding? I never said I want to die, if there's an emergency I am going to escape alone you know?

"The imprintment process forces you to have extreme loyalty, so in future you might decide to sacrifice yourself if something happens. I don't want you to do that."

"I definitely won't."

She smiled without saying anything. I could guess what she was thinking but that would be rude even for me.

"Well, it has gotten late. Let's continue this tomorrow."

"Where should I sleep?"

"E-eh.!? Err…"

You didn't ask where your servants should sleep in? Talk about negligence. Sigh… I just hope I get to sleep somewhere warm.

"H-how about you sleep with me tonight?"

Do you not care about your safety at all..? Could it be that noble girls are all this naive? Or…

Everything that happens today is bizarre, starting from waking up in another world to realizing I am in another body.

This is all exhausting to react to.

I just hope nothing too strange happens tomorrow.
