The Bland Compliment
"How is she now, doctor?" asked the man for the third time and glared at Hao who was leaning on the wall near the door nonchalantly with his closed and his hoodie back on his face.
"I am fine, Yiming. You are exaggerating. I am not that weak!" replied Cheng Lin, but her face had been turned ashen and her ribs were covered in bandages. Her face winced even when she tried to talk in a bit loud voice.
"You! How impudent to treat a woman that way? And you still dare to think that you will get a job here? Ha! What a delusional man!" The man was beyond furious. His whole body trembled when he looked at the frail looking lazy man who was standing as if the whole place belonged to him.
He could not believe that the man had the strength to hit Cheng Lin so badly. It might have been only luck or she had not given her hundred percent because he knew that Cheng Lin was a strong contender too.
Hao did not even open his eyes as if that matter had nothing to do with him but Cheng Lin panicked. It had been years since she had seen such a strong contender. He was the only man who could match that demon and save her!! She did not want to let him go because of a small argument.
She tried to sit up but it only added pressure on her ribs, "Yiming, let the matter go! Hao is a strong man and I am honored to have a close combat with him. He will work with us in the future, so he is one of us now.
As a family, we should not argue with each other." she spoke hastily and there was a hint of nervousness in her voice.
The more she spoke, the more infuriated Su Yiming was! This was the first time he had seen that Cheng Lin was trying so hard to support someone. It increased the jealousy in him.
His eyes narrowed on the man whose face was hidden with the hoodie as he wondered just what Cheng Lin was seeing in him. He looks rather like an actor or entertainment clown with that slim waist and fair skin.
"Why? I do not understand why you still want to offer a job to a man who did not think twice before beating you? What if he was a man of the dragon gang who is here to keep an eye on you? Or more, killing you?" he asked in a cold and harsh tone as he gnashed his teeth.
But Cheng Lin shook her head with confidence. If that would have been the case then Hao had got enough of a chance to kill her, but he did not. Somewhere she felt like she had used even half of her powers to beat her. Like he just wanted to play with her!
She shuddered with the thought of him using his full powers on her. She did not want to be on the bad side of a man of this caliber.
"Do not forget that I am the boss here and my decisions are final! Hao will work with us as my personal bodyguard from now on and this is the end of the discussion." her voice had turned cold and Su Yiming clenched his hands into a fist.
His eyes were seething fire as he shot daggers at Hao. if possible he would have killed the man right there.
Hao finally opened his eyes when he heard the cold voice of the girl and tilted his head,
"I do not agree!" they both turned and looked at the man stunned! Did he just deny it?
Cheng Lin was dumbfounded by his straight rejection while it only infuriated the man further.
"How dare you reject her kindness? If it would have been anyone else then they would have asked their guards to kill you! Yet it is only the goodwill of our boss that she is still offering the best job to you and you still have the audacity to deny?" He narrowed his eyes and punched the armrest of the sofa he was sitting on.
But once again he was completely ignored by Hao who had not speared a single glance at him since the start as if he could not hear Yiming at all.
"...." the man felt humiliated which only worked as oil in the fire he was burning in.
"Why? Do you not want to work with me anymore?" asked Cheng Lin with a dim voice. She was disappointed that he did not want to work with her but as a proud woman she would not request him.
"I have asked for a job in the bar. I do not work personally for a sexy woman!" he replied with a blank voice and closed eyes with a lazy attitude. Yet it was enough to burn her face.
She had received many compliments all her life, and if she compared this was the most impervious and bland one yet she felt most affected by it.
"Then.. any job you like in the bar!" she replied, trying her best to sound neutral but the change in her voice and her red ears could be clearly seen by Yiming who was beyond reasoning now.
"Ha! Did you not say that you are the boss and your decision is final? Or are you keeping double standards now? I did not expect this from you, Lin." his tone was full of allegations and his eyes had turned rest.
He had clenched his fist so tightly that green veins could be seen popping from his hands. He looked at Lin for a few second but when she did not reply except looking at him with a frown, he laughed in a cold and mocking voice and walked towards the door,
"And here I thought that you are different from other women!" He pulled the door with such an extreme face that a crack formed on the door and a loud "bam" could be heard when he closed it with the same force.
Lin was looking at the door with a stunned face when the man who was standing lazily walked towards the door too. She thought that he was furious with the way Yiming behaved and wanted to leave for forever and her face turned nervous and she panicked.
"Hey! Do not leave. I will talk to Yiming. He is normally calm and rational. I think that he is just agitated because he could not see me injured.`` She tried her best to explain to him but the man did not even turn to look back at her.
He did not say or react to the incident as if he did not see it or it had nothing to do with him.
"You misunderstood, I have to leave so that I can give personal coaching to a girl in losing her weight!"
