Speech

In complete silence, Nathan stood behind Dilliard, who was sitting at a large corporate conference table, where Khan's high commanders were gathered, with the exception of Marlon, whose chair at the back of the table was still empty, and behind it, Lloyd.

After what Syril had told him, Nathan did not know how to react. They were planning to kill his family, with whom he had had no contact for years until recently.

His mind was in chaos, not knowing in which direction to direct his thoughts, then he noticed Syril, who stood behind Dinna licking her lips while holding the bag he had given her.

Besides them, there were the other generals with their respective direct students. The brown-haired general name was Venna Lin, and behind her stood Maya with another cadet whose name Nathan did not know.

The other general, who always wore dark glasses, was called Glyn Farsa, and behind him was a young man with two pistols, whom he had met with Sienna and another cadet at the facility the day he had his combat against Sienna.

It went without saying that in the end Nathan had faced these two third category cadets and defeated them, but it was a challenge just like Sienna.

Back to the important topic, Nathan stopped looking at the four generals and focused on the other people.

A little less than a dozen of Khan's high commanders were sitting around the table with some soldiers behind them, but none of these high commanders were more important than the four generals, so Nathan did not care much about them.

At that moment, Dilliard turned, and he held out some documents.

"Read it and get an update on what's going on these days"

"...Fine"

Nathan accepted the documents and began to glance through them, snapping out of the chaos of his thoughts for a moment.

'Shit...' Nathan whispered internally, to which Amelia only sighed heavily.

'It's worse than we thought'

Nathan nodded at Amelia's words and continued reading.

'Approximately 15000 dead from the fall of the Behemoth-like calamity... and another 20000 dead from the first wave of the cataclysm'

Nathan had never been confronted with such a death toll before and knowing that most of them were civilians and people from the outskirts, he could not help but feel some bitterness.

'The Behemoth-like calamity flew back a couple of minutes after its fall, then disappeared through the rift in the sky from where it had appeared, since then it hasn't reappeared'

Nathan momentarily closed his eyes and thought about the great whale.

'Familiar of a god...'

Since Amelia had revealed that to him, Nathan never got the existence of the calamity, and especially its owner, out of his mind. Shaking his head slightly, Nathan continued reading.

'The first wave of calamities has been subdued to 70% thanks to the rigorous efforts of the central government along with the support of the Aeterna family, it is unknown when the second wave will happen'

Nathan remembered the large pterodactyl he had defeated almost a week ago, then he sighed, knowing that there were surely dozens of such calamities, or worse, that were still killing humans.

Nathan finished reading the document and reached the last part, then frowned.

'An area of 1 kilometer radius belonging to the former warehouse area is reported frozen, the reasons are still unknown, but it is believed that it may be the work of a third rank calamity. The danger level of the area is red, but the government is still investigating'

Nathan unconsciously reached into his pocket and touched the letter he had taken from the corpse of one of the men in the warehouse.

Then a television set suddenly came on at the end of the table, just above Marlon's empty chair.

Nathan stopped reading the documents and frowned as he saw Marlon through the television, who spoke a moment later.

"We will start the emergency meeting"

Without delay, Marlon began by starting his speech over the loudspeakers while everyone kept silent listening to him attentively.

Nathan had never heard a speech from Marlon before, but he couldn't help but frown at the words coming out of the man's mouth.

'This looks like...'

'A cult' Amelia completed his sentence, to which Nathan nodded.

Marlon spoke motivational words and aggrandized his ideological struggle as well as the organization itself.

Taking advantage of the fact that he was wearing a mask, Nathan looked at the generals and high-ranking officers present, then was surprised to see how they all had slight smiles on their faces.

The only one he could not see was Dilliard, because the man had his back to him.

Nathan felt a slight shiver when he saw these smiles and realized that everyone believed Marlon's words. Nathan unconsciously looked at Syril, who had his eyes slightly closed and for some reason was trying to avoid looking at the screen that projected the man.

Finally, after a long and tedious twenty minutes, the speech finally came to an end, then Marlon was silent for a couple of seconds before continuing, this time with the important part of the meeting.

"Now, our next plans will begin when the second wave of the cataclysm occurs"

The high command broadened their smiles.

"As soon as the calamities leave the great castle and head for the city in search of new prey, then we will attack"

Nathan frowned.

'Attack?'

The first thing that came to his mind was his family, then Marlon continued.

"Taking advantage of the deployment of troops the government will make to combat the calamities, we'll wipe them out, taking control of the city once and for all"

Nathan blinked a couple of times as if he hadn't heard correctly, then Marlon's last words finished him off in a daze.

"And finally, we will get rid of the Aeterna, then finally the region will be our property"
