It would make me rich

After almost an hour's walk, Nathan arrived at the market. He had chosen to walk instead of taking a cab for two reasons.

The first was that he simply wanted to walk, the second was that Amelia had asked him to do so in order to see the city in more detail.

Nathan was not on vacation, but he did not mind accepting Amelia's request.

In front of the entrance to the market Nathan again checked where he should go. But since he had no idea where the specific store was, he had to ask for directions.

Then he finally arrived in front of a fishmonger's shop.

After double-checking that it was the right place, Nathan entered and grimaced at the strong smell of fish.

Dozens of different types of fish were on display, but Nathan didn't focus on these and approached the counter, where there was a man at work removing the organs from a fish.

"Hello..."

The man stopped when he heard Nathan and gave him an ugly look.

"What do you want?"

Nathan was surprised at the man's words, which he doubted were the right way to serve a customer. But without giving it much thought, Nathan recited the words he had been told to say when he arrived at the fishmonger's shop.

"I want a freshwater trout with 2 days in the oven"

The words he said simply made no sense at all, but then the man dropped the knife in his hand and then took off his robe.

"It's in the back, come with me"

Nathan nodded slightly and walked past the counter, following the man through a door.

'Are you sure this is a good idea?' Amelia asked seeing the very suspicious situation.

Nathan didn't know what to say and simply followed the man.

They both walked down a long corridor until they reached the last door, then the man opened it with a key he had on him and gave Nathan the way.

"Downstairs is what you are looking for"

Nathan looked at the stairs leading down behind the door and sighed internally before stepping inside.

'Where the hell am I going?'

Nathan started down the stairs, then the man closed the door behind him, and he was left in complete darkness.

As Nathan cursed, a few light bulbs lit up, so being able to see again, he continued down.

For almost a full minute, Nathan continued down.

'How long can a the stairs be?'

Wherever he was heading, it had to be very far down, so finally after another minute Nathan came to another door.

Carefully opening it, Nathan closed his eyes slightly because of all the light on the other side of the door.

Getting used to the light, Nathan frowned and looked around.

'Where the fuck am I?'

A large street filled with people walking idly, with led lights illuminating the surroundings and indicating all sorts of stores.

Nathan had to blink a couple of times as he realized he was in some kind of subway city.

'This world never ceases to amaze me!'

Nathan fell silent at Amelia's comment and replied to himself.

'...Me neither'

Nathan was still in a market, but compared to the one above ground, this one was completely different.

With just a glance, he could see all sorts of things... some of dubious legality.

Nathan still had to go to a specific place, so he began to walk through the streets of this subway market.

Dozens of stores sold all kinds of relics, but just looking at the prices on the shelves outside the stores, Nathan completely lost interest.

'Those prices don't make sense... no wonder realms looters make so much money'

Not only were there relic stores, but stores selling firearms, exotic food, there were even stores selling calamities... yes, calamities.

Nathan was surprised to see calamities inside cages, almost as if they were trained.

There were even calamity eggs, leaving to surprise and mystery what kind of creature would hatch.

Nathan thought he knew the city, more about the outskirts, but he was wrong.

The most important black market in the city... and certainly in the region.

It was simply gigantic, with thousands of people walking around the place. Nathan could feel strong people around him, as well as many people of the first rank and some of the second rank.

This place was simply a nest of snakes, one that Nathan did not want to disturb, so he walked in silence to a two-story high building with nothing special about it, except for the logo above the door.

Two crossed swords, it was simple, but at the same time specific. It was the logo of the mercenaries.

Nathan hesitated for a few seconds and then opened the door and entered the store. Once inside, he was surprised to see that, compared to the busy outside, the place was organized and mostly silent.

There were hardly any people inside and those few were seated at various tables minding their own business.

Suddenly Nathan heard a door open and looked in that direction.

"I'll be back in a couple of weeks, I'll leave you in charge" a man spoke as soon as he left the room.

"Stop for a damn second!" A woman came out behind the man and stood in front of him, stopping him in place.

"What else do you want me to say, Jean? I'm going on vacation, I had to do quite a bit of work after I got back, I have important things to do"

Nathan stood still, trying to be as unnoticed as possible when he saw the two people talking.

'Sure, why not'

The man and woman who were arguing were none other than the king of the mercenaries and Jean, the woman who had gone to the attic with Nathan and the others looking for the third rank calamity.

After Nathan had fallen into the military zone, he did not see Jean or Herfir again. But now he realized that at least she was okay.

"I want a vacation too!" Jean shouted to the king of the mercenaries, who looked at her with pity.

"Don't look at me like that!"

The king of the mercenaries sneered and walked on.

"When I come back I'll give you a bonus for hard work"

"I don't want it!"

The king of the mercenaries ignored Jean's complaints and found himself facing Nathan. They both looked at each other for a couple of seconds.

"Do I know you?"

Nathan shook his head.

"No..."

The king of the mercenaries shrugged and walked out of the room.

Nathan sighed quietly while his heart was racing, then looked at Jean who walked to behind the counter grumbling.

"Fucking asshole!"

Nathan didn't know whether to go talk to Jean, not when she was this furious, but he had no choice, so he slowly approached the counter.

Seeing someone approach, Jena simply looked up and growled.

"What do you want?"

Nathan was quiet for a few seconds.

"I want to register as a mercenary... and see the wanted list"

Jean folded her arms and looked him up and down.

"Yours die fast"

Nathan didn't change his expression, but inside he was already cursing her.

Jean shrugged and simply held out her hand. Nathan hesitated and frowned, not knowing what the woman was referring to.

"Just give me your hand, damn it"

Reaching out his hand, Jean grabbed it and pulled it, then took a pin and pricked his finger. The woman turned his hand over and let the drops of blood fall on an emblem with the symbol of the mercenaries.

A couple of seconds later, Jean let go him and grabbed the emblem before throwing it back to him.

Nathan caught the emblem and looked at Jean in confusion.

"That's it?"

The woman looked back at him with a frown.

"Were you expecting something else, like filling out a form or something?"

Nathan shook his head.

"Forget it"

Jean sighed and handed him a tablet, which Nathan took and looked at its contents.

"You want the wanted list, there it is"

Ignoring Jean, Nathan began to scroll down the list looking at all the wanted. There were thousands, all with different rewards, then he realized he would never finish at this rate.

Using a couple of available filters, Nathan narrowed the list down almost more than 80% and then frowned.

'Damn... it would make me rich to give myself'

On the tablet screen was him, wearing his mask. There was no information as with other wanted, just a slight description of him.

'Approximate height: 180cm. Build: slim. Description: Wears mask (face unknown). Organization: Khan. Power: First rank, unknown category. Reward: 10.000.000 H'
